Lately, I've been hearing how Cotto is the man give Mayweather his first loss. I know he is an improving fighter as he continues his road to greatness. (Cotto) but I'm really having a hard time to put it together on how Cotto will beat Floyd.
Floyd has faced fighters like Cotto in the past ( Castillo, Chico, ect.) Floyd has shown that he can adapt to any type of style. (just my opinion)
Most posters on here are saying that Cotto will cut the ring off and work the body. That may be true, but you also have to consider once you go to the body you are open for a counter shot and Floyd is ONE of the best in the game. In Cotto's last two fights, he showed improvement but he also showed he is open to crosses and uppercuts ( Judah was finding his home with a straight left and a left uppercut. Shane also was finding his home with a right cross and a right uppercut)
Also you must into consideration that Floyd has stellar defense. His defense is a lot better than Mosley. The reason I bring up Mosley is because Mosley gave Cotto a very hard time in their fight. If Mosley had decent Defense, he could have pulled out a close UD or SD (just my opinion) Cotto was giving punishement and also was taking punishment.
With that being said I'm having a hard time seeing how Cotto will defeat Floyd. So can you guys please break down on how the fight with Cotto and Mayweather will play out.
All bullshit aside, I want true, logical posters to give a breif summary on how you see the fight playing out. PLEASE!:D
As you point out there was a rematch to that fight, and I assumed that Floyd learned something in the last 5 years too.
I am just puzzled when I read posts where people seem to forget that Mayweather has a jab, which he throws from high and low guard, to the body AND to the head...
Well to be honest, the jab still didn't exactly let him blow Castillo out of the water in the rematch, so I'm not sure how it will play against Cotto. I am more confident in Mayweather's counterpunching getting him out of that bind than a lead jab.
Honestly, I'm not sure how to make Cotto's "perfect" style against Mayweather interact with Mayweather's style. I just tried to think about how Castillo used the jab to the inside style with success, but the problem is, Floyd has learned from that, and changed something to deal with it, as shown in the rematch.
I just tried to give Cotto's best plan A... how he deals with it if Mayweather is kicking his ass to the curb, I don't know.

Switch hitting on the inside wont work because Mayweather doesn't stand and exchange. He is too good for that.
My take on this fight has alwas been: Boring.
Floyd can (his speed) and wants to (cotto's size/power) make it a pot-shotting night.
But here I am assuming Cotto's ability at cutting off the ring is as great as his fans make it out to be, and he will get on the inside. Obviously being natural at switching is a good thing there. But when it comes to inside fighing, phone booth affairs, I think Castillo is better than Cotto, in terms of offensive skills in that situation.
I have read most of the comments by good users, and I discussed this in the past with oldgringo a few times.
Switch hitting on the inside sounds like a good move, and that jab a good way to get there. Good stuff Cotto is excellent at cutting off the ring too.
I have a problem with the jab part, though. People are making it sound like Mayweather has no jab, which is not the case. It is not unlikely that Mayweather deals with Cotto's jab the old way, by estabilishing his own jab, and I imagine touch Cotto's body many times with it. Note how this is is much more likely than Mayweather outroughing Hatton, which actually happened. It is not so weird to see Mayweather flicking hard jabs, while moving.

that was at 135 he's a welterweight speeds decreases once u go up in weight but i know floyd speed will be there but the question is with cotto' relentless style would floyd keep up his "gameplan" for 12 rounds that's the question.
Yeah, that and Cotto has heavier hands than Castillo... meaning that he might be able to wear Floyd's little body down more effectively than Castillo did.
I still got Mayweather in this one.
Yeah, how about that good discussion NAPO? Maybe if dumbasses like this don't interrupt threads we can do that.
Anyways, I already posted my bit about Cotto's strategy to beat Mayweather, which is work to the inside off the jab, and do some good body work in the early rounds.
My only thing is that Mayweather already fought Castillo, who had that exact game plan, and he seemed to learn a lot from the first fight, because he showed up a lot better in the second fight.

IMO Cotto's key is high volume and pressure. Have a high output like williams or margarito would do and just try to run him over and impose his size
That being said I'd still put my money on floyd
im glad that piece of shit is banned.
