Tito and Oscar should end their career facing each other by the end of the year. It's hard to tell who will win, but I believe that if Tito doesn't change the strategy used on his last 5 fights, Oscar will beat him. Oscar has shown to prepare and adapt better than Tito. Hopkins and Wright already showed the blueprint on how to beat Tito. Then again, Winky and Tito became good friends and with Winky's help TiTo has a better chance agaisnt Oscar than just doing what he does with his father all the time.
Fair enough, Crillz. Like most others, I was pretty impressed with Tito's performance against Roy, but only because he was coming off such a long hiatus. I was surprised to see Tito throw in combination for much of the fight, but I felt that he was pretty slow with them. He was rarely able to land clean on Roy. Oscar has better defense than Roy and has always had great footwork. I just don't see Tito matching up well with DeLaHoya, so I sincerely think he will be embarrassed. I think that Tito could certainly make 160lbs. Oscar might accept to fight him there, but he probably wouldn't come in any heavier than 156lbs himself.
Sure, that would be the recipe for success for just about any fighter. Trouble is, Tito hasn't done that in quite a long time, so why would anyone believe that he'd suddenly be able to do that now? Btw, what does Pernell have to do with the discussion? Not a great fight, but Oscar beat him on the cards and in the ring.
he doesn't I just named him because people are quick to shit on Tito for supposedly getting a gift decision against Oscar when just a few fights before Oscar had the SAME exact kind of win and nobody talks about it, I don't think it's fair that just because Oscar and Tito's name are in the subject title that it's okay for people to take cheap shots at Tito and just act like Oscar was robbed because a few fights before that HE did the robbing, this thread is about a rematch not about who robbed or who or who won or lost the first fight so for people to take that cheap shot ain't right when if anything he got a taste of his own medicine, I don't condone selective criticism and I just spoke my piece on it.
that being said, not EVERY fighter is better off fighting that way, you got some guys who pick and choose their times to punch like Floyd who wont just throw punches, a guy who is so gifted and skilled with speed and decent power that he can just counter you and just fight defensively, Trinidad is the opposite, he is an offensive fighter, he isn't as skillfully gifted to be pop shotting and winning easy fights, he has to apply more effort to win but he does more damage when he is successful in his approach.
it's never too late for a fighter who's lacing gloves up especially one who is still 35 and did respectively well for someone who was out for almost 3 years, in a weight where he's never been at and up against a legend of our time who still has enough left to fuck a n1gga up, even with all those disadvantages he was still able to get back up and shake off a temple shot from someone who rocked a Heavyweight and he also got the better of the first few rounds by letting his hands go, that doesn't sound like a hopeless fighter to me it's just due to his lack of versatility he is sometimes an easy target for those who know how to confuse or defend from an opponent, simple as that..
Trinidad can very well switch up though and do well he just has to study the tapes and now that the ring rust is off he can do better in his next fight.. dude is a legend who only fought the best, only 3 losses (to legends BTW) in 45 fights with 35 KO's yo I think he deserves a better benefit of the doubt than what you giving him here.
it will happen, and i think odlh will win impressively! tito will be way to slow, and odlh seems to have aged better for his skills seem more intact. maybe if tito can get a few more fights, and fight more often he can regain some of his skills!
funny how people say Oscar beat Trinidad but say nothing about Pernell beating Oscar, all Trinidad has to do against Oscar or anyone for that matter is just let his hands go, stop thinking so hard and throw punches in bunches, not freeze up and just go for it the way he did against Vargas, had he done that against Jones for the whol 12 he would have had an easy night, without putting SOOO much effort he won 3-4 rounds of the early half of the fight, I think if he just stops drilling his head with thoughts of a KO he could do great but one he starts head hunting and balling up then anyone can beat him, he allows himself to be beat, notice how EVERYTIME Trinidad looked spectacular it was when he let his hands go? even against Joppy, Cherifi and Mayorga but the few times he's faced text book Boxers he balled up and dramatically decreased his punch count to a point where he welcomes defeat, he was doing great with Jones early on but once Jones kicked the Boxing he just stopped doing what he was doing and didn't throw punches..
he just needs to fill his tank next time he comes and let those hands go, head movement and quick continuous punches will have Trinidad, even today, at a high point in his career skill wise, his power will back him but he has to throw punches, if he does that then Oscar wont see him..

Good point during the Trinidad fight. They said should Trinidad face De La Hoya?
What do you think?
like kellerman said a fight they can play at the end of their careers but the weight is a problem
It hasnt happend in 8 years I still dont think it will.(even tho I want it to)
But these days where would they fight at? Trinidad could hardly make 170. Oscar said 160 was a huge push and wouldnt never fight there again. His last two fights were at 154 and has "said" hes going back down to 147. So I just dont see it happening, even more so since they both have plenty of other options. Also it was in the contracts, that if the rematch ever happend it would be a 50/50 split of the money. You know Oscar isnt having any of that.
I was wondering how many posts were going to get posted before someone pointed out that their last fight's weight differential is 16 pounds...
Tito hasn't taken care of himself, and Oscar has... Tito is just too big for Oscar now. No dice.
Oscar will embarrass Tito (again). Tito did well against Jones considering his long hiatus, but he is slower than ever. Oscar is not as fast as he once was either, but he will seriously land 6-punch combos on Tito if they do the rematch. Oscar by wide UD.
That may be......but only for the first few of rounds. Tito has crazy stamina, and believe me when I tell you, Oscar De La Hoya can't hang with Trinidad! Sure, the better boxing skills goes to DLH, but when that boy starts to gas out...he don't want none of Tito's Left Hook!
I want this to happen as the last fight for both of them, I don't know if this will happen because of the weight, DLH won't go past 160 and Trinidad could barely make 170.

It will probably be Oscar's last fight in December. It would be a fitting end to a spectacular career.
Yeah that would make sense for DLH to fight Trinidad as his last fight. I know it wouldn't mean as much now as would have years ago, but nonetheless it would bring in good money and probably a lot of hype. Much more interesting for me than Floyd/Oscar II.

I was saying this before Oscar fought Floyd. Pretty much the only person, basically. It makes complete and total sense to me, but the fans aren't calling for it, and it seems Oscar is currently opposed.
This rematch should've happened a long time ago when these guys were in their primes....De La Hoya and Trinidad are coming off losses and their best days are behind them. I still wanna see this fight though, anything but Floyd/Oscar II.
