Speed don't mean Jack **** without power. These guys had both!
1, Ali - The Greatest!
2. Roy Jones
3. Sugar RL
4. Floyd M.
4. Tommy "The Hitman" Hearns
5. Mike Tyson
6. Hector Comacho
7. Manny P
8. Roberto Duran
9. Meldrick Taylor
10. Julio Ceasar Chavez
Speed without accuracy, power, distance and footwork, means absolutely nothing. Thats why Mayweather gets nominated even if he doesnt have the biggest speed. Its very difficult to say who has the greatest speed, because if you dont apply power and movement of the body you go obviously faster.
Roy is one of those rare guys that get everything together and still his punches are so fast you cant even see em.
and that is why calzaghe doesn't belong.

Young Muhammad Ali had fast hands, but not the fastest ever IMO
i think SRR and SRL both had faster hands.
RJJ may very have the fastest hands ever. To this day, they are rediculous. I mean just watch that Hanshaw combo where he knocked him down. I mean, that shit is almost Inhuman. amazing stuff, especially at age 39.
And Mayweather is not where close to one of the fastest fighters ever IMO. Zab Judah has faster hands guys...
Some more oldtimers with really fast hands who should recieve consideration:
Midget Wolgast
Benny Lynch
Jimmy Wilde
Bob Montgomery
Ismael Laguna (not an oldtimer)
Oh yea I forgot to put down my List LOL
1. Roy Jones
2. Leonard
3. Ali
4. Meldrick Taylor
5. Greb (haven't seen him fight so I'm just guessing here)
6. Robinson
7. Mosley
8. Judah
9. Gans
10. Conn
Excellent list. I think a lot overrate Robinsons hand speed. He was fast as hell, but there were a lot of guys faster throughout history. I would go so far as to drop him another spot and find space for Floyd Patterson.
Everybody here seems pretty biased in favor of new/current fighters. Where are the oldtimers in this discussion?
Tony Canzoneri: Watch him knocking out Jackie Kid Berg with probably the fastest left hook I've ever seen. Too bad he couldn't put it together consistently and lost to a bunch of guys he shouldn't lost to.
Canzoneri beat a who's who of great fighters from the 20's and 30's. One of the 25 or 30 best p4p fighters ever, in my opinion.

How about:
Kid Chocolate: blazing combinations
Benny Leonard: Watch his fight with Lew Tendler. Amazing. Fast with his feet too.
Harry Greb: No fight footage to prove it unfortunately but people who saw him fight, or fought him say he was the fastest, including Jack Johnson.
Kid Gavilan: just as fast as Robinson.
Joe Gans: Watch his fight with battling Nelson in real time. Not many combinations, but his speed in single shots was amazing.
Tony Canzoneri: Watch him knocking out Jackie Kid Berg with probably the fastest left hook I've ever seen. Too bad he couldn't put it together consistently and lost to a bunch of guys he shouldn't lost to.
Panama AL Brown: Really fast with the right hand, but overated fighter overall in my opinion.
Charley Burley: Pretty fast but no footage of him in his prime.
Billy Conn: Not the fastest, but like Mayweather, he made up for it with excellent timing and accuracy. Supersharp puncher.
Ike Williams: I saw this guy fight Beau Jack, he impressed the hell out of me with his handspeed.
My take on ALi: He is taller and has longer reach than everybody in this discussion. As you know, speed = Distance traveled divided by time. SInce ali's punches travelled a farther distance, it took him longer to punch, which means he seems slower than alot of the smaller fighters. But when you look at speed you have to factor in the distance travelled. For example, Russ anber rates Joe Louis at number 7, but I think Louis' case is helped by the fact that he punches very short, which makes him seem faster than he really is.
lmao floyd no way ....hes moves fats his hands arent fast ...zab malinagi and moselys are all faster and near his weight ...
fastest hands ive ever seen ...
judah
meldrick taylor
raylenord
ray robinson
mosley ..
not counting anyone below lightweight those dudes are fasttt
i'll say as far as handspeed, mayweather is top 10, not top 5 but i also look at his handspeed at 130-140, and without a shadow of a doubt, he is the most accurate puncher with speed out of anybody on anyone's list, and you can be mad all you want, but that's how i see it. no fighter has had his accuracy with fast hands as far as making punches count and throwing beautiful punches. roy jones was an awkward fighter to say the least, but his speed was amazing as well as his power, but as far as punching goes, he was never in the same league as floyd is or was, floyd threw punches that looked thrown right and from perfectly placed angles, and was fast as shit also. i feel, roy, zab, leonard, robinson, taylor, maybe ali, hell, maybe even tyson by a little more, had faster hands than floyd mainly because of their power also, but none of them, none of them, has been as fluently fast with their punches as far as accuracy and correctly thrown punches as floyd has been, none of them. i'm talking about from a fast jab, ali comes close, but his jab wasn't as fast as floyd, especially when floyd was at 130, and it damn sure wasn't thrown better, whether to the body or upstairs, to a lead right hand from a fainting position, floyd is and was better than all of these guys, period. from a lead left hook(coralles, gatti, corley anyone?), floyd has thrown punches that were never sloppy like say a roy jones or a leonard, and even robinson's punches looked sloppy a lot, but because of their speed and power their punches were effective, but none of them punched more beautiful than mayweather with speed at any point of their careers. from taylor, to whitaker, to jones, mayweather punched better with speed than all of them.
now, this thread is about handspeed, and my top 5 arranged in no order is as followed. jones, judah, leonard, robinson, and floyd patterson, who imo is closer to mayweather than any other fighter as far as use of speed goes.
