Never saw him before until last night. I was at work and boxing was on the channel 5 and they showed his recent fight against David Banks and I was impressed with the knockout. Reminded me of Henry Cooper versus Joe Erskine as they both got laid out over the bottom rope.
Anyway just checked him out on boxrec and he looks pretty decent but has lost his two biggest fights.
Can anyone recommend any of his fights to watch with other great knockouts.
I'm gonna check youtube to see if his losses are on there but which of his wins are worth watching.
Also what is everybodies thoughts on this guy?
Thanks for input in advance.
Nice summary. I agree with most. However I dont rate Kessler so high. I think he would frustrate Edison, but I still think Pantera would find a way to get to him and get the stoppage. Calzaghe is a different animial and I would not want Miranda to fight him.
Anyway, someone mentioned the 'jaw breaking' fight. Here are some pics. And ONLY in Germany does Miranda walk home without the belt...

Damn Arthur looks like he stuck cotton balls in his jaw.
Edison Miranda was killing himself to make weight at Middle Weight (160lbs). A prize fighter shouldn't have to sucumb to those restrictions, and fight at comfortable weight where he can be effective, and not be drained. Though Miranda has 2 losses on his record, he really was defeated by Kelly Pavlick fair and square, while his other loss to Arthur Abraham, was from point deductions. I would rate Edison Miranda as one of the best Super Middle Weights out there. His defense needs a bit of work, but on power punching, Miranda takes out Anthony Mundane, Peter Manfredo, Chris Eubanks, Manny Siaca, and Brian Mitchell, and Pascal will get dropped by round 6. The two I see giving Miranda a hard time.....Mikkel Kessler and Joe Calzaghe. I think with that KO loss to Pavlick, it made "Pantera" a more cautious fighter, tighten his over-the-top right hand lead, and realized he was too big to compete at 160. Expect Miranda to win a Major title by the end of 2008.

He seems to be just outside of that elite, but he is the sort of boxer you would pay to go and see, I doubt you could call any of his fights boring.
Didn't he break some guy's jaw in a match, after the guy showed in serious disrespect pre fight?
Yes, I know Edison personally. I am good friends with his manager. Met Edison on many occasions. He is a reaay good person.
It looks like he will be sitting idle until the Pascal fight or if something else bigger comes along. Keep checking his website for updates.

I love that thread! Too bad he blew his chance.
I guess (and hope) you will need to modify this as
'Next Great Super Middleweight' :boxing:
Do you know Edison personally, just wondering...
Question for Panter2000: Is Miranda going to fight in the interim before the Pascal fight in June? It just seems like such a long time to schedule a fight….
Cheers guys keep opinions coming. I'm first to admit if I'm not up with certain fighters or no nothing about them.
Looks like a good honest solid pro though with a killer punch, maybe an equivalent to Earnie Shavers would that be fair to say.
You could also compare him to Julian Jackson, with a meaner disposition and a better chin.

Miranda is a very intriguing fighter because of his style and life story. He had a horrible childhood but was able to overcome adversity to become an exciting young mw contender….
Miranda is a near-solid fighter at best. He doesn't do anything exceptionally well, and he absolutely cannot fight on the defensive. If he can't pressure his opponet into backing up (like Pavlik) he's pretty well out of the fight. That said, he's an exciting guy who speaks his mind, goes for the knockout whenever possible and knows how to entertain a crowd.
So I understand why he's popular around here.
