Why does Lennox Lewis get credit for Beating Tyson who was shot to bits ? Mike was so shot in this fight it was untrue he could'nt even shuffle his feet quick enough to close the range thats how old & shot he was ,he looked so old & lethargic
prime Mike would have hurt Lewis badly in this fight IMO ,Lennox was messing about for 7/8 rounds with him & did'nt take advantage of the fact Tyson was there to be knocked out cause he was'nt punching or moving ,the real Tyson would have made Lewis pay for his lapsidasical approach the way Rahman did
in a way people like Tyson & Holyfield paid the price for avoiding Lewis earlier in there career cause by the time Lenny got to theem they were past there best ,not saying Holyman was shot but he was possibly past his best ,but hey that was'nt Lewis problem he still one of the best Heavyweights ever
Largely because even if Tyson came back today, people would still give him a shot of being a genuine title-holder.
lol,,,he got beat up by danny williams and kevin mcbride who got beaten up by far less than the elite fighters themselves :duh:
Tyson was not at all prime, but he had some pretty good wins coming into this matchup, he had been blasting through his competition too(other than his rough start from the layoff with Botha).
I dont really count it as a 'Tyson' win, but I think he was a legitimate enough opponent to qualify as a 'worthwhile defense' type win.
besides, Lewis beat the hell out of him. That was probebly one of the most lopsided heavyweight fights I have ever seen. Tyson was simply mutilated, look at his face and the huge shots he took...

It was more of a novelty fight in my eyes, i got caught up in the whole Tyson shit in the build up(doesnt everyone?) but in hindsight Tyson never really stood a chance. Just for the record Tyson circa 1988 beats Lewis
That wasn't prime Tyson, but that's not Lewis' fault, he wanted to fight Tyson in the early '90s but Don King paid him off so there's nothing else that could've been done about it
Lewis didn't fight Riddick Bowe because of Riddick Bowe.
Lewis whooped Bowe in the olympic finals, Bowe threw his title in the trash can because he didn't want to fight Lewis.
I think that's atleast a moral victory.
Anyway, I meant that Tyson was the last name fighter for Lewis at that time. Bowe was long retired and never wanted to fight Lewis.
Tyson had a good win streak going including wins over Savarese, Botha, Nielsen and Golota.
Tyson was the last one left for Lewis and he put an end to Tyson.
Mike wasn't near his best, he was shot to bits and proved it afterwards but the fight was something that needed to happen. Even if it happened like 6-7 years too late.
"Last one left"?
Lewis never fought Riddick Bowe...

yeah why is this ? Mike has no agility anymore reactions are shot ,speed is gone his durability has gone ,everything that made him successfull has gone except for his punch which he will only be able to land with the aforementioned qualities

It was probably the myth of Tyson that gave Lewis so much credit in his victory. I personally think it was a good win but it wasn't his best win by any means.
I think Lennox was on the verge of sliding himself, so it gives him a BIT of credit. It was a fight people had wanted to see both take for a LONG time, to begin with. Nonetheless, he did what he was supposed to do. Nothi8ng special happened that night, other than the spectical of it all.
I don't know that too many journalists or historians do give him great credit for this 'W'.
It was a good name on the resume, and he was able to say he beat many of the best fighters of his era because of this matchup, but I don't think anyone with any boxing knowledge would call this the highlight of his career...
i don;t particularly give lewis a ton of credit for winning....this was the first boxing match i ever saw! i think people at the time bought into the mythology of tyson...
