Not yet anyway, especially not against Bernard. A six million dollar tv deal in the US should be enough to keep the parties happy (it will probably still be PPV in the UK on Setanta and those fees will be sliced up). The 6m is like an insurance policy / investment, if the fight is a borefest that's already been taken into account but if Joe manages to give Bernard a proper beating then its 6m wisely spent on advertising for the next PPV with either: Kelly / Jermain; Chad or; Roy. Everyone's a winner in the US, but the Brits get shafted another £15 either way
Great coverage of the UK side of things. Americans get frustrated when they find out fights like PBF-DLH I was free in UK (correct?), because there is no local draw to make people pay for it. Finally, us Yanks catch a break. Well, I don't have HBO anymore, so I'm out of luck either way.
Really helps the wallet, though.
I love Bernard, but Calzaghe wins a pretty wide UD here.
Kessler/Calzaghe had the lowest regular HBO ratings in history, so HBO will never put Joe Calzaghe in any PPV fights.

Intruiging.
Lucky over in Australia, with the drinking age being 18, me and my mates just go down to the pub and watch it for free, spend our mula on beer and salted snacks. Winning combination.
I dont have hbo so ppv or not im still fucked. :(
im in the same boat no HBO but hopefully somebody will find a sopcast link and i can watch the streamed fight live, its what i did for RJJ vs Tito
Two great fighters, but it wont be an exciting fight at all. Maybe they would be smart to put it on regular tv, because I cant see a bunch of people wanting to buy it.
I FOR SURE wouldnt buy it. And i even buy just about every ppv fight that comes on. I almost didnt buy bhop vs winky but thought i'd give them a chance and never again.

damn i just went to btalk and since this as well. Interesting! maybe they know that calzaghe isnt a big sell and the ppv numbers wont do well. bhop isnt even a big sell and considering how horrible calzaghe vs kessler did on HBO (and that was a super fight lol) they probably thought it would be best to put it on HBO and introduce calzaghe to the united states that way.
GL:" What made you want to give us a fight that by boxing's standards belongs on HBO PPV, on HBO World Championship Boxing?
Bernard Hopkins: "I think it's something that hasn't been done in a long, long time. If my memory hasn't robbed me, this is the biggest fight on free HBO since Lennox Lewis and Vitali Klitschko. This is what we need, we need to back in time for certain things and remember that NBC, ABC and CBS, where I knocked out Glen Johnson when he was undefeated and a well established fighter. That fight was on CBS and a lot of viewers got to know me at that time. Not only to give back to the fans, this is about helping everything all around the world. This is free viewing, this is free boxing. This is for the fan who can't afford to spend $50 to watch any star fighter in the world. With all of the PPV fights that have been happening in the last year and half or two, it's time for the fans to save that money and sit back with their popcorn and get ready for a fight. Get your popcorn and watch this historical bout with the Englishman versus the American on free TV. To me it's like the NBA championship or the Super Bowl with the kind of exposure the fight will receive. I mentioned with Mark Taffet months ago that I would love to do a fight with Joe on regular HBO to give them that informercial.
"This is a way for them to introduce Joe Calzaghe to the American world of boxing is through HBO championship boxing. They're going to be able to maximize his exposure, but I have an agenda too. This is a way for a lot more people to see me on HBO World Championship Boxing than HBO PPV. That's not saying I'm not marketable because I've done good numbers on PPV over the years. I believe I came in second or third at worst in terms of PPV buys. I am a PPV star, but I feel that we should do this for the fans and a lot of other people agreed on it as well. It's a great idea for everybody, including the TV, me, Joe and the fans are the biggest winners of all."
