I think part of the reason he was holding and fighting on the inside ( I dont think it was as bad as some you make it out) is to nullfy some of chagaev's advantages offensively, whenever they got at distance is when skelton was doing the worst so he just tried to muscle him on the inside and keep it there where he cant hurt but ruslan was stronger and better conditioned. that's a resonable way to go about it. I dont know what else he could have done in there.

At least Ruiz started holding after Tua punched him into oblivion. Wonder what Skelton's excuse is? Skelton should be banned from boxing, he is a disgrace. Chagaev hurt Skelton a few times, but Skelton quickly held on and wrestled Chagaev. When they fought at a distance, Chagaev dominated and landed the straight left and combinations. Who is worse when it comes to holding wrestling and clinching: Matt Skelton or John Ruiz??? I'm gonna say Matt Skelton by a country mile

Chagaev showed he can infight pretty damn well. It wasn't a pretty fight but I'm not going to say he didn't do well. Infighting is never pretty to some eyes, but RS blocked or rolled everything, landed coming in and going out (when they separated on their own), landed sometimes from the inside too. Skelton landed very few punches
