Couple of days ago seen Roberto Duran record at boxrec.
and God what I have got to say.
The guy fought for like two pages from boxrec.
He fought in 70s 80s and 90s
His career is 1968-2001 that is like older than most guys in BS.
respect for this warrior.
I remeber even at " Beyond Glory" where William Joppy said : " This guy had the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s now it my time."
He was only KOed 4 time out of 119 fights. impressive.

multiple weighclass and he could be the best what boxing could offer. He got everything a win, lose a ,quit and a amazing comback.

OK, then comes the fact that he lost to every great fighter he ever faced and quit in the biggest fight of his career. He is an ATG, and arguably a top 10 fighter, but no way in hell is he the #1 fighter of all time.
Those were the good days when everyone fought everyone, the fans won back then, now its all about how much does the fighter make and scrue the fans.
The good days when title shot and having a L doesn destroy your career too.
Now if someone is loses it might be long time til he gets back to the spotlight. look at Quintant or Joel Julio?

exactly what i was thinking mate. it was more about the pride and honour back then
now you have the number 1 guy in boxing fighting purely for the money. its a joke
Yeah I saw it, I know it happens to a lot of fighters, it a habit that they don't lose easily. I mean I could say the same thing about Ali retiring after the thrid Frazier fight. You know he only retired because of a car accident?
IMO he should have retired after the Barkley fight or after the 3rd fight with Leonard but he still fought on untill 2001...unbelievable.
if you seen Beyond Glory. It explains why it hard for him to retire as well as many other fighters.
Roberto Duran thinks the only thing he could do in this life is to fight and nowthing else. He doesnt know to do other stuff like open his own business or anything outside of boxing. which makes it abit problamitic if you got a mentalitiy like that doing other stuff in life.
That is why some fighters keep fighting for year and year talking blured and stuff.
similar to James Toney, Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson there is many other fighter to mention but this just came out of my mind
