Maybe it was promoter Don King hooting and hollering every chance he got.
Or maybe it was the tough talk by Felix Trinidad Senior.
But for a fight between two fighters who are considered to be in the twilight of their careers, there sure seemed to be a lot of excitement Tuesday at Madison Square Garden for the final press conference for the fight between former champs Felix Trinidad Junior and Roy Jones Junior.
The two former pound-for-pounders will meet in a 170-pound catch weight fight Saturday night in the main event on HBO Pay-Per-View.
"This is going to be a great fight of glory and pride between two veterans," proclaimed King. "They're saying these two guys are old. They're saying these two guys are past their prime. They are dreaming!"
"It's going to be a great boxing card that you can't miss that night," said Trinidad, 42-2, 35 KO's. "I'm feeling very good…a lot of passion. January 19th I'm going to get another win. I'm very confident in myself. I'm just waiting to win on January 19th."
When Jones came to the podium to speak he said he appreciated and understood the support Trinidad had from many in the crowd but "come Saturday night you're going to hate me. I can't tell you how raw I'm going to be Saturday night. The razzle and dazzle…the old Roy Jones is back."
"You will have no break against Felix Trinidad," said "Papa" Trinidad in uncharacteristically aggressive remarks towards Jones. "We have been training hard for six months. We are very well prepared to fight 12 rounds. This fight will be won by who has more will, patience and who was dedicated more to training."
"You're going to fight against the best Felix Trinidad anyone has fought against," Trinidad Senior said as he looked at Jones.
"Unfortunately I can't beat the dad too," Jones, 51-4, 38 KO's later said.
As if anyone needed a reminder regarding the ages of the fighters, Jones provided it when he mentioned that both he and Trinidad just recently had birthdays. Jones turned 39 while "Tito" turned 35. "I guess I got to give him a bad birthday present," Jones said. "It'll be late but it'll be a bad one."
"If I dont knock him out im gonna feel like somethin wrong with me so... I hate to tell you but I dont often go in the ring lookin for knockouts... But I refuse to let Tito Trinidad go 12 rounds with me.... ANYTHING OTHER THAN A KNOCKOUT, IN THIS PARTICULAR FIGHT... IN UNACCEPTABLE" - Roy jones jr Yahoo Sports video - outside the ring

I agree, ill support roy jones until he dies. I have no doubt that he could win another belt at the lhw and smw division if he really wanted it. He's old yes, he's lost a few steps yes, but he still has more natural talent than anyone but floyd as of right now ( prime rj puts floyd to shame though in the athletic department ) Im a supporter of boxing. I'll buy this fight with no regrets. Im a fan of tito's , im a fan of roy jones. this fight may not be for a belt, but neither was gatti ward.
i could of wrote that
same. I don;t think it matters to whether they are old enough. People were looking forward to Hopkins vs Wright and they're old timers well hopkins is.
yeah but that fight was garbage lol
i think if roy and tito fought in there prime it would be.... a demolition on roys part... now that theyve both fallen from grace a bit... it actually makes it more interesting for me to be honest... and the fact that if roy can look great.. and somehow someway get a chance at calzaghe...
MW > SMW > LHW > HW > LHW > SMW
im not sayin he could do it.. but the thought of the possibility is undeniably compelling... and one way to restore a somewhat whethered legacy

he just fought trained april may june... he fought in july.. a solid hard 12 rounds... made weight at 175 in july.. this fight was made 3 weeks after the fight... so he knew to keep his weight down and stay fit... tito said hes been training for 6 months... well roy just FOUGHT 6 months ago, with a training camp before that
this is not true. roy started preparing for this fight a loong time ago. He said it himself he is just fine and thats the result of starting camp earlier then usual. he is good to go
i gata disagree with u there.. roys been saying over and over... i wont be backin up.. not against a welterweight no way... im goin in a circle, or im goin forward... they took the damn interview off youtube where he said that on FNF... i think hell be pushed back to an extrent, but i dont expect it to be like the hanshaw fight
He'll be fine........Dont believe rumors, its not even a rumor, everyone here knows roy will have a difficult time making 170, but he has trained especially hard, more than usuall as of lately and he'll be at 170. However tito still looks a little over it to me.
actually tito looks pretty good.. hes gata 6 pack at 170.. theres somethin to be said for that i think... its gonna come down to titos sloppy defense and unreal fast right hand leads and counters... tito WILL get to roy, he WILL hit him... but roy wont shatter like the 50% concensus that his chin is glass...
If he has to dehydrate only five pounds (from 175 to 170), then that is not dangerous, and shouldn't affect him.
But if he is dehydrated at 175, other five pounds will be really hard. I did it million times, and i know how hard it is to drop weight.
It will probably affect him if fight goes past seven-eight rounds... Jones is not in his prime, so who knows how his body will handle weight cutting.
this will affect him - those legs are by no means fresh.
i still got him pulling out the dub tho.
I heard Jones Jr. could not drop from 175 pounds and might need to deeply dehydrate to make 170 on time for the official weight date. If this is true, Tito will have an unexpected advantage. How true is this or is it just rumors??? :feedback:

I doubt he's having a problem. He stated in an interview that he'd love to fight Calzaghe at 168. Even went as far as to say. I'm making 170, what's two extra pounds? So, I doubt he's having a problem.
