Who is more overated Roy Jones JR or Mike Tyson ? people talk about these 2 fighters like they were unstoppable in thier primes so i wanna know who is talked up way to much for your liking out of these 2
IMO Roy beat James Toney & lived off that fight for years he also beat Hopkins yet that was just seen as a run of the mill win agaisnt a good fighter but not great ,its only when Hopkins improved as a fighter & when on to become a great fighter himself that Roys win began to look much more impressive ,after Roy beat these 2 fighter he fought over the Hill fighters like Mike McCallum & then beat some fighters that he could have beaten on his worse night in Otis Grant ,Frazier,Hall ,telasco ,Kelly etc ,he beat Ruiz granted but even a fat James Toney acomplished that feet just shows the calibre of Heavyweight champion Ruiz actually was
as for Mike Tyson its no coincidence in my mind that he looked unstoppable in an ERA where the competition was less than stellar & his Biggest defeats were against the best fighters he faced in his whole career
I can guarantee you Roy Jones wouldn't look like a monster had he fought every single top fighter in the MW, SMW and LHW divisions but of course that is not possible. But no one can say he couldn't have fought better opposition.
Some of the guys he fought were UNDESERVING, what if Mayweather took a fight against someone like Golden Johnson or Jesse Feliciano? Because that's what Roy did.
RJJ fought some good opposition but he also had some very awful filler fights.

RJJ's record.
I dont care who fought everyone or who didnt. Roy Jones was an absolute monster, and nobody ever speaks of him as highly anymore. It's weird how one knockout when he was 35 made everything change.
Tyson is more overrated.
dont get me wrong im a big Tyson & RJJ fan & IMO all fighters are overated to some degree infact all sportsmen are overated to a certain degree the media have to sell the product or they dont make as much money & Mike really was the cash cow ,a dream to promote KO guaranteed
moofo that is the best post ive ever heard u write absolutely spot on that is mate ,i could'nt ave said it any better myself as opposed to calzaghe telling us hes the best and hiding away in cardiff instead of going after jones who was considered the kingpin at the time. the eyes dont lie just check out the videos man, tell me what you see
RJJ is responsible for the trend of "Avoiding" fighters by giving the excuses like "He aint good enough" , "The Money aint right" and "Cherry picking".
Mike Tyson fought just about everyone there was win lose or No contest.
Unfortunately Mike peaked in his early 20's when the competition around him wasn't the best and then threw his career away with his problems outside the ring.
RJJ & his fans choose to be happy with the "Roy would beat anyone in his prime and didn't need to prove it because he just would..."
I'm not saying RJJ was crap , I just wish he would have chosen to prove he could beat everyone rather than just tell us he could have.

I AGREE, THAT COULD'NT OF BEEN SAID ANY BETTER
I think both fighters were/are very entertaining. Compared to todays fighters its hard to call Jones or Tyson overrated, but I am going to choose Tyson because it wasnt that he was some amazing boxer it was that his opponents were SCARED STIFF of him so they most of them froze up and got KOd.
neither are overated, in there prime they destoryed everyone in there divsion, they will be haunted by bad endings of there career but they are not overrated 1 bit both are all time p4p greats
