According to the Floyd Sr. interview at F****hype, he acknowledged that Ali tried to fight an mma guy once, and ended up on the floor with swollen legs.
That's Rocky III you're talking 'bout, right?...
LOL, I can understand the resemblence. No, that really happened. I've seen clips of it on TV a few times since..
the guy layed on his bakc the whole fight and kicked ali's legs... umm a real warrior...
He used what worked to his advantage. Just like when Floyd realized he couldnt hurt Baldomir, he resorted to potshoting and moving.
I also remember that on the undercard, heavyweight boxer Chuck Wepner fought Andre the Giant. Wepner was 6'6 but looked tiny next to Andre. In the 3rd round Wepner hit Andre with a couple of rabbit punches and Andre simply picked him up and dumped him completely out of the ring. That ended that. It was awful, but still miles better than the Ali-Inoki farce.

exactly.
i agree except you mention ali as the greatest of all time. nobody deserves that title.
people, please, get off this greatest of all time shit! marciano could beat ali. frazier did. both klitschkos could. foreman nearly did - and if he had a smarter strategy, would've.
NOBODY DESERVES THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME attribute. no exception. shit, this is something he called himself, not what others called him! when he eventually became great, that g.o.a.t. thing stuck. but lets not overplay it!
He is the greatest heavyweight of all time because his achievements as a pro are better than any other heavyweights. Only Joe Louis comes close and it's a battle between those two for the number one spot.
Sure people could beat Ali, any man can lose. But I would favor Ali over any other heavyweight.
He wasn't allowed to grapple. What do you think he should've done? Stand with Muhammad Ali the best heavyweight of all time? You've got to be kidding me.

I think this event was what Floyd Senior meant:
Ali did end up with swollen legs because Inoki kept on kicking him to put him down on the mat. Inoki knew that exchanging strikes with Ali was a very bad idea. i think the "match" ended in a draw.
That fight looked boring..... I bet alot of peaple tuned in to see that disapointing fight.

Yeah it was an absolutely brutal war and blood was spilled. Both men almost lost their lives that night it was better than Ali - Frazier III.
Damn straight....I have heard many call it "The Hagler-Hearns of Wrestler Kicking Boxer's Legs Matches"
wow that was the most disgracefuly funny thing i think i've ever seen.. when ali was on the turnbuckle bicycle kicking him:lol1:, the guy wasnt even trying to kick him he was just falling on the ground.. wow good find
Was it THAT gruesome?
Lets just say if you see one round, you've seen them all. Neither man wanted any part of engaging in the other ones strengths. Honestly, it couldn't have turned out much worse. At least Inoki had a lot more years of pro wrestling left. The farce took a lot out of an already fading Ali.
I saw video of him fighting a wrestler, but we all know how fake that is. Was there even MMA back in Ali's day?

Not exactly. He fought Japanese pro wrestler and MMA guy Antonio Inoki about 30 years ago. I saw this on closed circuit TV. The wrestler fought the entire fight on the ground, kicking at Ali's legs. Ali tried to get punches in, mostly unsuccessfully. The whole fight took place over 15 rounds that seemed like forever. Ali did have problems with his legs afterwards from all the kicks. This wasn't fake, because if it was it couldn't have possibly turned out this bad. You can probably get a tape of this, but don't say you weren't warned. I'd never watch it again.

Antonio Inoki kicked Ali on the legs for 15 rounds, the fight was declared a draw. Ali never danced in a fight after that.
Ali was allowed to punch and Inoki wasn't allowed to grapple so it wasn't a fair fight. Inoki came up with a rather unique strategy and laid on the floor so Ali couldn't punch him.
The guy was a pro wrestler named Antonio Inoki. He & Ali went at it in one of the all-time farces.
Inoki apparently laid on his back, & repeatedly kicked at Ali's shins ,throughout the entire 15rds.
