Trust me guys, this isnt as long as it looks and its different then my normal threads. Just read a few lines and it will flow from there.
Seriously though how can you guys not like Floyd moving down? To me its by far the best thing for boxing. Ofcourse everyone wants to see Floyd-Cotto or Floyd-Williams but lets be real about it. Those probally arent great fights. Everyone wants to see them now and then after it happeneds everyone will say that there should be a rematch but no one will want to see it. The fact is that the WW's are too big for Floyd. They are. Im not saying he cant win because I think he can but there is a 90% chance that win or lose, the fight will be so boring that it could kill boxing. All those matchups would be hyped up so much and stink. Just look at Floyd's career. I always told people before the Hatton fight that they act like they only remember Floyd's last 2 fights. Before that he had 6 very exciting fights. Those last 2 were boring because the guys were so big. Then he fights Hatton and gets a KO. If he fought any of the big WW's right now then the fight will be just like the Oscar & Baldy fights. He cant win. By that I mean that he will either lose or win so boring that he will be ripped for it even though people know the guys are much bigger then him. All he will do is pop shot the whole fight most likely. All of you complain about that but you want to see it again?
I dont know whats wrong with you guys and Floyd's fights at the lower weights. I would love more then anything to see him fight guys like Diaz, Pac, JMM, Paulie, Campbell, or whoever. All those fights would be super exciting because he will go toe to toe. Floyd is not big so I think it is the right move but its still too risky to drop straight to LW. If I was his manager I would try to have 1 fight at 140 and then go down to LW. The only 2 people at 140 for him to fight are Paulie & Witter. I dont want to see him fight Paulie since he has said so many good things about Floyd but I would love to see Floyd go over to England to fight Witter. After he beats Witter then he can drop back down to LW. At LW some guys maybe scared to fight him but once he thows that money in there face I could see them jumping. Diaz is the guy. His team maybe worried about Floyd until they see that contract which on it will be a price that will be 10x more then anything Juan can make in his career. The LW's will also see that they come into there fights weighing more or the same as Floyd did against Witter. I bet if Floyd fights Diaz at LW then Juan will be the bigger man in the ring.
Once Floyd goes down, other guys will come up. You can tell that Guzman is one of those guys who arent scared of anyone. No one will fight him and Floyd will give him a huge pay day. That way Floyd Sr. can also get his big pay day and everyone would love that fight. Then Floyd can fight a guy like Soto. After that Pac will have had a couple of fights at LW and they will have a super fight. People will diss Floyd in the begining but once he starts signing these fights then everyone will fall in love with them because there still great fights and will be 10x more entertaining then seeing him fight the big WW's. The PPV's will be huge as Floyd will deliver super exciting fights all the time and drive MMA out of buisness. After that Floyd can move back to 140 for a Hatton rematch and then he may actually come to WW to fight Cotto for the last fight of his career as Cotto should have the division cleaned out by then. Also, dont forget that Floyd isnt the only guy in town. Think about how exciting the WW division will be without Floyd. Then everyone will stop gunning for him and start fighting eachother. That way we can have the big super exciting fights against guys there own size. Once Floyd leaves then guys like Cotto will definatly fight guys like Williams. Williams, Cotto, Cintron, Margarito, & Clottey will all fight eachoter. Even Berto will be in the mix by then.
I think this is great for boxing as there will be a ton of great matches and all the fights will be exciting. Even the people who dont like Floyd will have to admit that seeing him at the lower weights right now would be exciting. His fights would be so explosive. He wont be big guys. People have it in there mind that he will be beating up on little guys but its so untrue. He's the same as them but just so good that he can move up. Weight wise I bet these guys will be the same size and alot of them will be bigger. I think Floyd goes down in history by doing this. If he goes back and gets alot of wins then everyone will be calling him an All Time great at different weights. Dont forget that Floyd didnt fight hardly any at LW or 140 so he's just going back to catchup. Then we can really judge how he wouldve done against guys like Duran & Pryor. Please stop trying to make it sound like he is Cotto going down to LW. Floyd is a LW but he's just so crazy talented that he can move up. You guys seriously wouldnt love to see Floyd fight a Guzman, Pac, Diaz, Sotto, Witter, Paulie, Hatton at 140, JMM, Campbell, Casamayor, and David Diaz? What about Valero? He may be a star by then and is pretty big. Floyd might even see him. Floyd will be the most exciting guy in boxing at these weights and then the haters or guys like Calzaghe cant rip the way he fights. People have to realize that he will still be in his 2nd or 3rd weight class. They make it sound like he will be in his 1st beating up on guys moving up. Even going back down he will have moved up further then all the P4P guys. How can you say Floyd is beating up on little guys when these other guys are still at there 1st weight and are huge?
Yeah I could see Mayweather going into potshot mode. I like Mayweather in potshot mode because he still does little combinations like left hook-right hand lead, but combinations Mayweather was just so awesome.
If he could combine the left hook, the right hand, and then two or three other punches, it'd be great.
The chances of MAYWEATHER-COTTO being a great fight are SOOO HIGH. I mean its an unbelievable styles matchup. These 2 guys were made for eachother
I'm not sold on that, actually. I think Floyd would go into pot-shot mode, hit and run, all fight so as not to get hurt. Cotto is much bigger, so it'd be similar to the De la Hoya fight in the way Floyd adapts to the size- but with Cotto being younger I wouldn't be surprised if he could bully Floyd against the ropes all night...
No. Hatton was never in the picture at all. The only thing Hatton said about Floyd was that he was boring when Max Kellerman asked him about Floyd.
Floyd was suppose to fight Mosley Cotto or Williams. Floyd decided to pick an option not on the table. Ricky Hatton.
For that, Floyd will always be a queer. The least he can do is make up for his queerdom and fight Miguel Cotto. Then he can do what ever the fuck he wants, but the fact remains the Floyd has NEVER faced a legitmate contender in his career. All of his fights have been against Cherry picked Champions. Being a champion is about defending your belts against the best, not cherry picking champions in other weight classes.
I honestly don't expect Floyd to fight Cotto, or for that fact anyone that has a remote chance of beating him any time soon.
We all know he is not a natural welterweight, but he is not an incredibly small welterweight, he is bigger than Cotto and bigger than Mosley. You dont become and ATG by switching weight classes every time a challenge presents itself. And moving down to 140 AFTER making Hatton move up to 147 is probably the douchiest thing that any fighter has EVER done in boxing history.
Floyd is good, dont get me wrong, he is very good, but the guy is a prick and a bitch. Always complaining about his hands, when he has only broken it once in a fight. Fragile Floyd isn't as fragile as he would like everyone to believe, the guy is just a drama queen and its irritating.
It's obvious you know absolutley nothing about the situation. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
So then why didn't Floyd move down to fight Hatton? Thats right, he likes to take the easy fights like Hatton at 147, then when he cant dodge Cotto any more, OOPS SORRY COTTO, IM MOVING DOWN TO 140!
We all know that Floyd shouldn't be fighting at 147, but he has insisted on it, and claims to be the best, so he needs to man the fuck up and fight the best. None of this moving down a weight bullshit.
If he wanted to fight at 140, he should have moved down for the Hatton fight, and not claimed to be the best at 147 when he is dodging any legitimate contender like the plague.
Fucking fight Miguel Cotto already, god damn.
Everyone knows that Floyd is going to pull anything he can to avoid fighting Cotto, and it is getting kind of irritating.
I wouldn't be surprised if Mayweather moves down to 140 to fight Pauly.
Fight Cotto, if you lose, say you arn't a WW, Ill accept that excuse, then you can move down and continue your domination Floyd. But dont be a bitch about it. Give the guy a fucking shot.
I Agree. Mayweather is growing feathers.
good points dlt, but the only problem with him being more exciting at smaller weights, is that it's not 2005 anymore. the vibe with floyd and 140 isn't there anymore imo, of coutse, how would i know this, he hasn't moved down and fought yet, so it is mainly assumption on my part, bit i feel he will get criticized more for doing this. he needs to stay at 147 and beat cotto and i feel he would possibly stop cotto, an di also feel he would break williams' body down, so he gets more credit to balance out the criticism. he is the best, no doubt, and him fighting pacman would be big, but he would get criticized for being too big for pac, although oscar didn't get criticized for being too big for floyd, because floyd won and he gets hated on and floyed proves skills win fights. anyway, good points as usual, but even i want him to stay at 147 because i know he would beat cotto and williams.
So then why didn't Floyd move down to fight Hatton? Thats right, he likes to take the easy fights like Hatton at 147, then when he cant dodge Cotto any more, OOPS SORRY COTTO, IM MOVING DOWN TO 140!

Hatton turned Floyd down when Floyd was at 140! Get it right!
Trust me guys, this isnt as long as it looks and its different then my normal threads. Just read a few lines and it will flow from there.

I had to stop right there....
Floyd's height and reach is exactly the same as Erik Morales
5'8
and 72 inch reach
And THATS where ANY comparsion between Mayweather and Morrales ends.
I can't believe people actually think Pac would stand a chance against Matweather. Cause thats what you are implying with this stupid comparison.
How much did Hatton get for the fight with Mayweather?
run floyd run!!
back to safer waters!!
Let the real warriors battle it out for supremacy at 147, all cowards and fakes are not welcome!!
Floyd offered the fight to Hatton when he was at 140, Hatton wanted 13 million for the fight and that wasnt going to happen, so dont blame Floyd.
How much did Hatton get for the fight with Mayweather?
And then when he beats Cotto then what will most say? They always knew Floyd would win, funny I remember quite well what many said before the Gatti and Hatton fights, but when Floyd proves them wrong its always something, Im glad Floyd doesnt get caught up in what people say and try to prove stuff he shouldnt. Again do you realize Floyd started at 130? He fought at like 112 when he was like 16-17, funny again nobody ever asked Hatton to fight a Williams are someone freakishly big. Most want Floyd to fight P. Williams, when Paul will come in at middle to supermiddle, Floyd will come no more than 150, ok thats Floyd not fighting the best welters as some want him to, thats fighting a middle or supermiddle.
That's what I'm saying- size is deceptive. Just because you fight somewhere doesn't mean you belong there.
Bernard Hopkins- Light Heavyweight, by his own admission, that struggled to stay at 160 for years.
Paul Williams- A gigantic welterweight whom all expect to move up eventually.
Jermain Taylor AND Kelly Pavlik- both say they want to move up, not just for shits, but because it'd be more comfortable for their bodies.
People move up in weight, sometimes- like Hatton- just for a big fight when they belong at a lower weight class. Sometimes, like Bernard and Williams, they stay at a lower weight to use their perceived size advantage.
How many boxers remain at one weight class anymore, anyway? They use weight as a transitional aspects of their career.
I have to say I think this thread could get you quite a forum beating, DLT. I mean, Floyd says he's the best from 130-154, right? So why shouldn't he have to defend the claim? Floyd would be ducking Cotto if he moved down. The best fight in all of boxing is Cotto-Mayweather.
That's what I think other people might say- I agree with you, DLT. I'd love to see Floyd move down in weight. I think he's more naturally suited for it and I've been saying it forever. Mayweather still has pop in his punches at lower weights, is a small guy naturally, and there's little difference in size. I mean, at 147 Mayweather is naturally smaller- so if people argue the lightweights are smaller men than Floyd...is there a difference? Either way it's smaller man vs. larger man.
Anyway, I don't see why the Cotto fight is the only choice. Yeah, I'd like to see it...but if - and that means if- Pacquiao and Mayweather could fight, why wouldn't we want to see it? As someone else has said in another thread...that'd be the p4p #1 taking on the p4p #2. How is that not even better than the Cotto fight?
I honestly think part of the equation is that people want to see the pound for pound champion taking on the most dangerous possible threat. For many people these seems to mean taking on the larger fighter. I honestly think Cotto is only dangerous to Floyd because of his size. I mean, if Zab Judah had no pop in his punch...could he beat Floyd? Well, yes. If Judah were smaller and he could stay mentally focused he could beat Floyd (in terms of pure ability- I know Zab lost). If Cotto couldn't hurt Floyd, though, could he beat Floyd? I don't think so. People think pressure is the key...effective pressure can only work when someone is able to bully you to an extent.
That said, Manny has a big punch - for his weight it's far bigger than Cotto's. So wouldn't Pacquiao have a puncher's chance? He's faster than Cotto, too. I'd honestly be just as happy with a Pac-Man fight...it'd be massive for the sport. An entire country would back it (one bigger than Puerto Rico, thank you.)
People say the welterweight division is the deepest in boxing and has the most oppurtunity for Mayweather to extend his resume. If Floyd were to beat Williams, Cintron, Cotto, even Mosley for good measure- people would consider him an ATG. If Mayweather were to beat Manny Pacquiao or Marquez, some of the Diaz boys, and other names at lower weight..I think people would always say, "but Floyd was bigger than them.."
By the rationale that boxers should always fight in the highest weight they can Bernard Hopkins, who said he was having problems making middleweight for years and was naturally a light heavyweight, shouldn't get any credit for his reign at 160 - and Paul Williams who is obviously made to be a junior middleweight or above shouldn't be said to be an amazing 147 lb fighter.
No one judges people like that. Even Kelly Pavlik says he could more easily make heavier weights and is going to move up....so is Pavlik a chump for fighting smaller men? No.
Mayweather should move down if he feels like it, as he fought at lightweight at the age of 25. If you can fight at 130 into your twenties, you're a small framed man in my book.
Nwahs, you cant say anything about the Hatton fight because Floyd had asked him for the fight in the past, right? If Hatton had said yes, then the fight wouldve been at 140 but he didnt want it yet and Floyd moved to WW. Also, I dont know if its true or not but Floyd said that they couldve fought at 140 even when it did happened but Hatton didnt want to put his title on the line. Also, please dont make it sound like this is Oscar vs Floyd. Floyd fought Hatton at WW but they were still pretty much the same exact size that they wouldve been at 140. You make it sound like Floyd came in the ring at 162 or something.
Ive always said that Floyd is not Pac. I like Pac but his move up in weight is fake like Duran's. Both of those guys were just huge guys fighting at smaller weights. They shouldve never been down there. They killed themselves to make those weights. It would be like Floyd starting his career at 118. Thats what they did. Just look at Pac now compared to Floyd. Floyd is super small everytime he moves up but Pac moves up and is always the biggest guy in the division. Floyd came into the ring against Oscar at 148 pounds all the way up at Jr. MW while Pac is at 130 coming into the ring at 144 pounds. Pac is so crazy big that he has just been forced to move up again. He said that he had hell making 130. Think about that. The guy trains like a freak, has moved up a hundred times, and has hell making the weight? That tells you how naturally big he really is. Floyd isnt like that. Floyd moves up and always fights much bigger guys. Pac moves up and he's always the much bigger guy. Most guys at 130 come into the ring at 135 pounds and Pac is nearly 10 pounds bigger even though he's moved up a bunch. He shouldve definatly started his career at 126 at the least.
He made EM look like a little kid when I saw the fight. It looked like a man vs a boy. He was huge and totally filled out. Floyd looks like a flat board. Then I just watched Cotto vs Shane and Cotto looked like a truck compared to Floyd. Shane's much bigger then Floyd and Cotto made Shane look like a kid. Thats why all those WW's want to fight Floyd. They know there much bigger
No. Hatton was never in the picture at all. The only thing Hatton said about Floyd was that he was boring when Max Kellerman asked him about Floyd.

If you think that Genaro Hernandez, Diego, Castillo, Gatti, Shamba Mitchell, Zab Judah, Oscar, & Ricky Hatton are not legitimate contenders then you dont know much about boxing.
Hatton was always in the picture. What the hell are you talking about? After Tszyu lost it was "Hatton vs Floyd" this and "Hatton vs Floyd" that.
Besides if Hatton didn't want to fight Floyd he could have said "Ya know I fight at 140 and he fight at 147 so I don't think this fight would happen"
Ricky always gave credit to Floyd too about his fights and how he is such a good fighter. It was a strategy that got Mayweather to come out of "retirement" and fight.
People wanted to see Floyd vs Hatton always. And he would have been ducking him if he hadn't...or so says most posters or whatever.
And I like how you pretty much ignore the Shane Mosley part. Good job.
Also guess what...PAUL WILLIAMS WASN'T EVEN IN THE PICTURE WHEN FLOYD SIGNED THE HATTON FIGHT. Idiot. Paul Williams hadn't beaten Margarito by then, so how Floyd ducked a mere prospect is beyond me.
Listen, if you sign to fight one person you are always "ducking" another fighter. That's how most boxing fans think. It's stupid, but they can't be pacient.
Oh yeah and tell me one more thing, why was Cotto deserving a shot at Mayweather before the Mosley fight when all he did was beat a Judah, who Mayweather already beat, and 2 contenders?
No. Hatton was never in the picture at all. The only thing Hatton said about Floyd was that he was boring when Max Kellerman asked him about Floyd.

pklus he fought Hatton and ODLH because they have bigger fanbases than all the WW combined....all of Mexico and all of Britain supporting the fights Floyd Mayweather produced...
thats way more than Cotto's MSG...

How can you say Floyd is beating up on little guys when these other guys are still at there 1st weight and are huge?
good post.......
No because he should have been fight Cotto in the first place, not Hatton.
But wouldn't he have been ducking Hatton since Hatton called him out? Or how about Shane Mosley who would then be left out an oppennot? Would Floyd be ducking Shane then?
