For the record, Manny puts Lewis #6.
Lennox
No, but I was just listing some heavyweight names to think about.
I'm not sure if any of those guys could be ranked ahead of Tyson.
But someone like Baer does remind me of Tyson, he became the world champion easily and was thought to be unbeatable... until he was beaten by a boxer who was thought of as a bum, Jim Braddock.
After that he was still in the heavyweight title picture but never fulfilled his potential because he was lazy.
They say Maxy like to have to much :fest30: :beerchug: :op: :439:
Max
One day, boxer Max Baer called Mae West from the street outside her apartment in Los Angeles. West invited him to come up and see her sometime - sometime soon. Sure enough, the couple ended up in bed.
When they had finished, Baer rose and went to the window. Then, pulling up the shade, he began to wave - standing, still completely naked - to someone down in the street.
It was Baer's agent - who had just lost a $500 bet that Baer could bed West on the spot.

First, do you have all of those fighters beating Tyson or just ahead of him based on their HEAVYWEIGHT resume...And that is HEAVYWEIGHT resume.
We can break it down if you like...you can start.

I don't have an official one right now. I'll have to think about it.
Ok, I like you, you actually admit you would have to think about it, which means you aren't picking the guys that are up on your wall, like so many do.
Good list, not sure if I would call Tyson just hype but it's true his accomplishments are not comparable with the best heavyweights of all time.
I guess you could make a case for guys like Tunney, Norton, Baer, Charles, Patterson, maybe even Quarry, Walcott, Lyle and Bowe to be ranked ahead of Tyson or if we go even further Sullivan, Langford, Wills and J. Jeffries.
I'm not too sure if I would rank any of those ahead of him though.
Tyson is somewhere there in the top 15. His spot depending on how you like to rank fighters.

i agree. whats your list?
Refer to post #25 for all questions.
Post #25 I know it wasn't his fault- it's just my two cents. You don't agree?
I'd still have him in the top 10.
Cool, didn't see it.
i dont put Tyson on the list because he was overrated, didn't accomplish alot and didn't go to the olympics. i base my list on what the fighters accomplished and not hype. Tyson has never beaten a great fighter that was in thier prime.

Soooooo, where does that leave us with Marciano?
He really shouldn't be counted as a Heavyweight since he was 185 pounds and never fought one decent fighter over 200 pounds, unless you count a shot Joe Louis.
His notable wins, Ezzard Charles, a past prime fighter, who lost many times before, including being knocked out more than once, who started at MW, and was known as a LH. Archie Moore, 42 years old, known as a LH, lost many times before, including being knocked out more than once. Walcott, according to Bert Sugar, was known as a "journeyman" until he won the title, who lost many times before including being knocked out+.
And how about Dempsey avoiding Black fighters?
Or how about Tyson burning out before facing Holyfield and Lewis, let alone Buster. It's not Lewis's fault Tyson decided to call it a career after Spinks, start partying, not training, and from what rumors there are, highly medicated for the Buster fight...that cannot be Lewis's fault.

The biggest knock on Leis' resume is the fact that the biggest names on his resume were shells of their former selves. Not saying that he wasn't good- but the biggest names he beat can be misleading.

LOL at you calling them both Wlad. i see what you are saying though.
Johnson, Dempsey, Louis, Marciano, Liston, Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson, Holyfield and Lewis.
How would you rate them all? Those are IMO the all-time great heavyweights.
As for ranking them, it's hard to say.
Feel free to add some more great heavyweights that I've missed from my list.
1. Ali
2. Louis
3. Larry Holmes
4. Lennox Lewis
5. Evander Holyfield
6. Jack Johnson
7. Rock Marciano
8. George Foreman
9. Sonny Liston
10. Jack Dempsy
11. Joe Frazier

Yes, I do agree. Basically I was responding to another poster claiming Marciano's reign was better. Both of them definitely belong in the top 10. I also think some of Lennox's second tier opponents (Tua, Ruddock, etc.) were close to their prime and better than most past champion's opposition.

I don't know, there have been many many great HWs throughout the years, but Lennox first comes to mind as the most accomplished HW of recent years. I think I'd have to put him in there between 8 & 10.
