Toney v Griffin 1+2 who won ? i have watched those fights recently i thought Griffin won the 1st & 2nd fight IMO ring generalship won him the fight he dictacted the pace of both fights, Toney scored the the harder shots but was to inactive in certain parts of certain rounds i think it comes down to the old "Toney does'nt fight every minute of a round " in close fight like these a good flurry can win you rounds & sway judges in your favour
Griffin did all the leading in both fight & dicatated the pace in both fights
who u got winnning these fights, forget what Merchant & Lederman thought:smashfrea
I dont think Toney was overrated, its just that he is a fighter that usually does just enough to win fights, nothing more, nothing less, he rarely would try and dominate. Besides certain guys just have styles that are gonna affect you regardless. Hurtado was just about dominating Sweet Pea before he got stopped so it happens.
I Agree RJJ would have beaten Toney 99 times out of a 100 stylistically Toney was talior made for Roy
James Toney is Overrated.
If you dont agree watch his fights with: Michael Nunn, Dave Tiberi, Reggie Johnson, Third fight with Mike McCallum, Both the Griffin fights (I never though of Griffin as a good fighter his only biggest win is against Roy, in a fight everyone knew he would have lost, and he was until the controversial DQ, Roy told him whos the boss in the rematch. I only give him props because he hanged with Rahman and Peter at HW considering he was a middleweight once.
Good fighter but still overrated.
wether Toney was overated or not is down to interpretation
Griffin was giving Roy the same kind of problems he gave Toney& was possibly ahead on scorecards untill Roy Scored a knockdown & probably evened things up then the rest is history Griffin played for the foul & got Roy DQ
Griffin won both fights, thats what happens when a guy faces another guy who does alot of the same stuff you dont because youre not used to seeing your own style in the ring. Floyd had a hard time against the guy he lost to in the Olympics, one because the guy was much bigger with long arms, but he was a hit and not get hit guy just like Floyd.
thats a great point about the similaritys in styel etc i concur 100% with your post

Toney won the second fight on my card.
u could definaetly make a case that Toney was much better in the 2nd fight & that Griffin did seem to tire towards the end of this fight he was starting to mess Toney about more than fight him to get to the end IMO
im not exactly convinced about the 2nd but i wouldnt argue that much regardless they were damn hard fights to score
