Personally I thought it was Pavlik because nobody thought he would do what he did. I mean he was a big underdog against Miranda and won and then the same against Taylor. Cotto was deserving, but I just thought Pavlik earned it more.
I thought it was between Pavlik & Cotto. I think I would've picked Pavlik over Cotto just because not many expected Pavlik to his fights at all. I think he was the underdog in both fights against Miranda and Taylor. I mean both had great years but I'd probably say Pavlik defeating Miranda & Taylor when not many expected him to is slightly greater than Cotto defeating Judah & Mosley who are better opposition in my opinion.
Fighter of the year:
1. Kelly Pavlik :boxing:
Miguel Cotto, Joe Calzaghe and Floyd Mayweather all had very good years, but Pavlik's three KOs over opponents who had never been stopped before was better. Taylor had never been down before and was the undefeated, prime WBC, WBO and Ring Champion. Miranda was a powerful puncher who put fear into Allan Green's heart in his last fight, but Pavlik walked him down and knocked him out!
Good points. I agree, it should be Pavlik this year.
I think Pavlik deserved it because although Cotto had a great year with Zab and Mosley.. it is Zab after all and that win isn't worth much because he is just a gatekeeper. The Mosley win was better then the De La Hoya one in my opinion because Mosley is the man to beat Oscar twice (even though I think Oscar won the second fight) and has been more active then he has.. But Pavlik takes the cake by taking out the biggest threat in the Middeweight division in Miranda and doing it impressively, Miranda was wait drained but it still a big win. Then taking out the undesputed Middleweight champ.
I like Cotto a lot, but I would put Floyd and Pavlik ahead of him this year. If he had won more decisively against Mosley then maybe I could see it.
i concur with you !
