Post up what you consider to be some of the biggest myths in boxing.
Lennox Lewis couldn't take a punch is definately one of the biggest boxing myths in recent memory.
Sonny Liston was a dumbass he hit thin air all night against Ali & even pulled his shoulder out by punching thin air instead of cuttting the ring down lol that bitch ass would nt have got outboxed by Tyrell Biggs lmao
That fighters of today can never reach the same stature of fighters of yesteryear.
AHMEN to that ,i hate these Dinosaur fans & the way they seem to think any fighter pre Ali was untouchable
Biggest Myth in Boxing for me is that Marvin Hagler was robbed against Ray Leonard
the 1st time i saw the fight was at a freinds house & he said to me just watch this fight tell me who u think wins he put the fight on i watched it & i thought that Leonard won infact everytime i watch it Leonard wins even to this day if i give Hagler the benefit of the doubt i still have Leonard winning it
Marvin Hagler threw his dummy out the pram & everyone bought into it that he was robbed ,he was just bitter because he hated the fact he lost to Ray of all people
Tyson way overated ,coincidence Mike got Whooped good style when he stopped fighting B Class fighters , OH i forgot Robbin gibbons & Don King are the reason Tyson went off the rails lmao
Ali overated but still a legend ,Ali had no defence except his footwork & he hardly ever threw body punches ,if Ali had kept his hands up more he probably would nt have been flawed by frazier & Cooper well he wouldnt have been hit with every hook Frazier threw in 1st fight
There are two sides that always show up with Tyson, one from the nuthuggers and the other from the hatters, but the reasonable can put things into better persepective.
What is true with the Nuthuggers: Tyson was a good fighter until he left Rooney, from which point he was the only one training himself and he fell off. Without a good trainer, you are shit. I have the video with Roger Mayweather backing this up about why Tyson fell off and his reason was because he got away from D'amato/Rooney teaching.
{at the beginning}
What is false or at least has no proof from the Nuthuggers: Tyson was unbeatable. Well, we will not know. Tyson fell off before he could fight a future HOF worthy elite fighter in their prime. If he would have beaten the HOF worthy elite fighters in their prime, we will not know, but what is known, if you have eyes, is that he was a different fighter after he left Rooney.
Haters, well they will say he was never any good. He was a head-hunter, ran out of gas, etc. etc. etc. All true after he left Rooney, but not before, which Haters will never mention since it doesn't help their case.
What is also note worthy is that the hatters forget how young Tyson was. He left Rooney at 22, far from a fighter's prime age. People in his camp also say Tyson was doing things in training and sparring that he had yet to do in fights because he was not as comfortable yet with it, it wasn't mastered enough to become a "reaction" yet.
The truth is this, Tyson was a good fighter when he was with Rooney, fell off afterwards, but never proved himself against a HOF worthy elite fighter at his peak and their peak so there will always be questions, which is also why I cannot put him at #1 like the Nuthuggers do.
One cannot take away how good he was prior to leaving Rooney. And nobody can say that having the many losses/deaths in Tyson's life didn't effect him and wouldn't effect anybody else, especially at that level, that popularity and pressure he was under and at his age.
For Ali, he was still young and hadn't filled out when he fought Cooper, so there is room to give him. He also whooped Cooper's ass after the knockdown and again in the rematch.
For the Frazier fight, Ali was still getting used to boxing again, used to a new body that physically, was never the same, nor was ever going to be the same. This is also why his legacy is boosted up...he was able to adapt to a lesser physical body, fighting against very good fighters and winning.
Biggest myth in boxing?
I hear there is life outside of BoxingScene forums. I for one refuse to beleive these false claims and will spend the rest of eternity talking about boxing.
Thankyou.
That's not always true. I do agree both Ali and Floyd talk alot of nonesense before matches with the difference Ali kept talking shit after matches.. I think the real reason is selfmotivation. If you convince yourself you can't lose (not because you're invencible but because you carry the world on your shoulders kinda thing aka responsability) you will focus better and perform at your best.
ali said that himself, i read one of his biographies and ali was quoted saying if you say something long enough you'll start to believe it yourself.
Myth: If you stand up to a "bully" he will fold. Just pop him in the mouth and watch him go down...show no Fear. Well, tell that to Frazier, who wasn't scared of Foreman, who was called a "bully", who was actually scared of Joe. Result: The bully kicked the crap out of the man that protected bullied kids.
Myth: When a fighter shouts/yells/barks or whatever you want to call it, he is scared. Tell that to Ali, tell that to Floyd Jr.

Ali was 'The Greatest'.
I laugh my ass off every time I hear that.
Nothing more than a blown up welterweight with a shitty left jab.
Lol has this dude ever seen an Ali fight?
sam peter having huge power that some claim! he is not nearly as powerful as some claim.
ali is great, but he is not the best boxer of all time as claimed by many.
Mike Tyson is unbeatable in his prime.
Tyson way overated ,coincidence Mike got Whooped good style when he stopped fighting B Class fighters , OH i forgot Robbin gibbons & Don King are the reason Tyson went off the rails lmao

That Ali was the "greatest".
Just because HE said he was, doesn't mean it is true.
ali said he was the greatest heavyweight not the greatest of all time. He said sugar ray robinson was the greatest. theres a post on this thread with ali saying that.
Ali on who is the Greatest
im very glad that someone finally found a video with ali saying that. maybe the ali haters will realize that he never discredited sugar ray.
95% of fights can end with the first punch landed, which I've seen many times over by people that do know how to fight.
The first three things I learned was this: (1) try to avoid a fight if you can (2) If you cannot, the fight starts the moment you feel threatened. (3) Throw the first punch, chances are, you win.
The ones that don't, well, lots of wild swings and rolling on the ground looking for pennies.
very true. those are the rules i follow. yeah those wild swing fights are funny cause some dudes swing like girls.
They smoke good crack over there in England huh? You should be hung by the neck until dead for that post my friend.
Actually I don't think my theory is shit.
Ask any 'man in the street' who the greatest band ever is, they say 'The Beatles' because that's what they've been fed. The Beatles have become canonised.
Ask any 'man in the street' who the best boxer ever is, they say Ali, because that's what all the pro-America TV/radio stations have rammed down peoples throats. Muhammed Ali has been canonised.
No 'man in the street' knows about Bernard Hopkins or Roy Jones or Khaosai Galaxy or any other boxer who wasn't plastered upon the silver screen by Hollywood or NBC.
Ali was average, and I stand by that. To equate it to music, just like Elvis, average dude.
