yes but byrd had a good chin. Its not always true that punching down is an advantage guys like valuev are so tall compared to his opponents that he cant get much leverage onto his shots. Remember tyson knocking out all those big guys you are trying to sound smart. of course its not always true. valuev is too slow and lacks snap. in walds case,,,he has speed..snap and strength behind the punch

The thing is though, this is not like having a discussion about Bruce Lee where there's little or no evidence of actual fighting. Ike showed his skills, albeit briefly. They're there for all to see. He had no major flaws. I mean the least you'd expect someone to say is the guy had decent talent, but for someone to completely laugh at the guy shows their ignorance. There's people in the boxing game who rate him very highly. This is not a bunch of little kids talking crap here, it's real. The guy WAS a beast with raw talent, heart and a chin.

tua wasnt past his best at that point and was in terrific shape at 228 lbs. he did land some shots on byrd but byrd took them. tua's power is overrated. besides ruiz who the hell has he knocked out? friggin hasim no chin rahman went 20 rounds with tua for christ sakes Tua's dedication was in question at that point & he was over 230 lbs. for that fight. I almost positive of that. Tua's power overrated? That's a first & I highly doubt that it. Just because he went the 20 rounds with Rahman doesn't mean anything. Bone Crusher Smith went the distance with Tyson but was knocked out by lesser punchers. So by your logic Tyson's power would be overrated.

I didnt say he'd knock ike out in 4 and I didnt say tua had no power. he doesnt have the same effective power as wlad against taller opponents. he was punching up at ike whereas wlad would be punching down on him. it doesnt take a genius to know there's a hell of a lot more leverage in shots being thrown down the pipe on a shorter man. wald is also much more accurate than tua. and yes,,tua did land some shots on byrd. end of story I was referring to run. yep. ike had only 14 ko's in 20 fights yet he's a monster to some becuase he went 10 rounds and won a very close fight with one dimensional david tua and was the first to over power little byrd. the ignorance in this thread is making me sick. glad at least a couple of us have some good sense for one, he had 15 kos in 20 fights, a 75%, which is not bad. second, who cares? alexis arguello had 13 kos in his first 20 fights. sonny liston had 10 kos in his first 20 fights. big deal. ike beat two young undefeated top 10 contenders in his short career. nothing specal, but two better wins than anything an overrated quitter like quitali quitschko ever had.

well chris byrd was one of the best heavyweights of his period and ike destroyed him in 5 rounds no one else could. wlad took much longer to do it. back to the subject all of these fights would be wlads hardest fight. wlad dominated every round with byrd whereas byrd was giving ike problems until he caught byrd against the ropes. wlad is more patient than ike and would have got byrd out sooner if he was more agressive. wlad beat byrd more impressively in my opinion. I had the ike byrd fight even until the knockout

He showed a damn sight more in those two fights than a hell of a lot of people show in their entire careers. He took hundreds of clean punches from Tua. So he needed to keep showing he had a rock solid chin, huh? Did he need to keep showing us he had an amazing punch output, or he had good handspeed, or power, or accuracy? No. He did need to show us that he could face a good tall heavyweight though, I'll admit that. I know some people take personal factors into things. I don't. I can set that aside and talk objectively about things. A guy can be scum of the earth but if i'm asked an opinion about him as a fighter I'll give that.
