Jermain Taylor had it all. He beat Hopkins twice, drew with Winky and was still Middleweight champion of the world. He had generous offers to fight Calzaghe and a few other names but he opted to risk it all on a 'tune up fight' with Pavlik. Theres no denying Taylor is a ballsy man, he ducks no one but after his loss to Pavlik his career looks really bleak. While before he was happy to knock back decent offers from Calzaghe the other week he was literally begging to fight him at SMW. it's a shame what has happened to him really.
The question is, if Taylor beats Pavlik convincingly can he repair his resume? Can he fight Calzaghe after he is done bashing up on Snaggletooth and get a decent split of the income? or do you think he will have to beat Pavlik for a second time?
Taylor is a good fighter not a great one. He was a protected HBO media star who had to finally fight a REAL middleweight that could punch and we quickly found out that while he's strong his defense is full of holes and any puncher who can stay with him for the first few rounds can ding him as Pavlik did. There was a very valid reason why Taylor's handlers and HBO didn't want him to fight a real hard punching middleweight. It amazed me that even after hurting Pavlik Taylor did the running. i expect like Tyson ,Taylor's opponents wil no longer back away from him and I expect he'll see the canvas a few more times. Some fighters learn from a loss we'll see in Taylor's case whether the loss makes him a better fighter or just exposed an over-hyped fighter.
I agree. Good post.

They question him even more now...
HOW? before they were questioning how he hasnt fought any Top contender in the Middleweight division like AKA Hatton...Witter, How are they questioning someone that fought his heart out and got KO.ed?
Oscar's career wasn't bleak because lost to Trinidad.
Mosley's career wasn't bleak because he lost to Vernon Forrest (twice) and Winky Wright (twice).
Ricky's career isn't bleak because he lost to Mayweather.
Darchinyan's career isn't bleak becaue he lost to Donaire.
And the list goes on and on. Fighters loose their 0s all the time. It doesn't mean their careers are over. Even if Taylor loses to Pavlik for the second time, he still will have a very good career ahead of him.
he says that he wants to retire before the age of 30 and hes about to suffer some more damage in this rematch. after Pavlik, if he does not get a shot at Sturm or Abraham, then my boy should call it quits.

Jermain would lose to Calzaghe. I dont even think he will beat Pavlik in the rematch so his options is limited. he should be around the Lacy/Miranda/Kessler group who are trying to rebuild thier careers. he should fight a few bums to get his head straight before trying to get a big fight with one the elites.
Taylor made a good decision in fighting Pavlik, Calzaghe( Frank warren) was offering dumb deals for Taylor to come to Wales and am glad he refuse all those silly offers to fight Pavlik, Even though he was KO'ed he went up in my estimate because people were begining to question taylor at that point.
I thoroughly believe Taylor cares about nothing other than beating Pavlik. I believe the hunger in him is back. He doesn't care about the weight, the pay, the venue he just wants to fight and beat Kelly Pavlik. If he does his career is back on the fast track while Kelly will still have all his belts.
he shouldnt have fought pavlik to begin with, he hadnt proved hisself to the point where it would look like ducking if he moved up to fight calzaghe or b-hop, and if he wins, it still wont repair it yet, it'll take a few good wins, but if he gets ko'd, then his buzz will be gone forever
Champions don't recover from getting knocked out in decisive fashion.
thats exactly what champions do you moron....
ali, lewis, foreman the list continues
i think the fight against pavlik was an entertaining one and taylor showed that he can punch a little. i thought watching taylor fight was boring, but after the fight against kelly i´m looking forward to taylors next fights. so probably taylor´s career isn´t over but i don´t think he´ll get to fight calzaghe even if he beats pavlik. calzaghe is "in his own zone", way too good and taylor has to work on his boxing skills to get close to where joe is right now.
taylor could have won in the second if he was a little more patient after the kd. Taylor career is not over jones jr got ko'd twice in much more embarrasing fashion and now he is in a big fight that people are anticipating. hope taylor wins this next fight.
Actually Pavlik was Miranda's tune up for Taylor.. Now that boy made it hard for himself to come back up. Taylor still has a long career ahead of him.. People be putting wayy too much emphasis on losses now a days.
The biggest mistake of Taylor's life was when he made a rematch clause to fight Pavlik at 166, he basically signed his own death warrant. Taylor is gonna get knocked out cold again by Pavlik and his career will be pretty much over.
I dont think JTs career is ruined. The 1st fight with Pavlik might even get FOTY. If he beats Pavlik the 2nd time he might end up in a famous trilogy with Pavlik. He's headlining his 3rd PPV & even if he loses he has a big enough name to get another big fight at some point.
