just a few thoughts about PBF at this point in his career.
i do think the critics have a legit gripe. you can't really call yourself the best of all time when there is still something right in front of you. Floyd needs to beat a top and legit welter. Now everyone is saying Cotto is the guy. Cotto may be the 2nd best welter in the world but he is definately not the only guy Floyd could beat to secure his legacy. If cotto had knocked out mosley or beat him more convincingly or if he were to beat paul williams or cintron, then he would be the guy. But as of right now i think floyd could fight cotto williams or cintron, and a win would retire him as a top 10 atg no questions asked. As a fan, i would like to see him fight at leat 3-5 more fights. I would understand if he had to kill himself to make weight and was risking his health by taking tons of hard shots to the head every fight, but the reality is that he is very hard to hit and it is almost certain that he will not suffer any physical damage due to boxing, his defesne is so good that he just doesnt get hit with good shots often. He can fight for 2 more years, make at least 40mil more dollars, and solidy his legacy. Floyd, beat cotto, williams or cintron and then think things over. it doesnt make sense for him to retire, not from a health standpoint, a financial standpoint, or when considering his legacy. To address the cotto stans, if cotto tkos oscar or beats paul williams, i will be in your camp, until then he isnt the draw and he hasnt established himself to the point that floyd must fight him, granted it is the fight i want to see most.
On the Cotto subject you may well be right. But with Floyds reputation and recent performances, you have to count Mayweather as a heavy favourite.
I'm not mad at that. Mayweather is the p4p best, just stylistically I don't see anyone else having a chance of beating him
he is a top 20 ish guy now 4 me, but he would have to beat cotto and williams to crack my top 15 atg's. i am not sure he has enough time left to be #1 atg, or enough challengers for that matter.
You can say what you want, but Cotto has beaten a lot of in their prime, undefeated prospects and champs and my hunch tells me this is just the beginning. If there was any man to beat Mayweather it's him, stylistically they match up beautifully. Cotto is not an ugly fighter and will chase Mayweather if he has to.
People are really overrating Paul Williams, I mean seriously I don't think Mayweather will have trouble with him at all. He fought a 6'1"(?) Diego Corrales didn't he? Mayweather will not stand in front of Williams and take those shots, he'll be crafty and get inside to score points. I don't even think Williams would win a rematch with Margarito. Someone will expose him soon enough, the sooner the better.
Also I disgree with Hatton being past his prime, he fought a good fighter in MM, he'll get back up soon enough. Don't write him off with one loss
I say fight Cotto and ride off into the sunset. Cotto is THE number 1 ranked WW and noone can take that away from him. Like people said Floyd hasn't faced a young prime undefeated p4p fighter, he did just that by dismantling Ricky. Now they bitch and spin the facts about him not facing a top Welter, he will do that when he faces Cotto.
I think stylistically, Paul Williams is the toughest potential challenge for Floyd. However, Paul is still not a big enough name for PBF to take this fight. Risk vs reward..
PBF vs Cotto is the only way to go! If Floyd wants to be known as one of the greatest, this fight must happen! I honestly don't think Cotto can beat Floyd. This fight would offer Floyd the biggest payday and will do the most for his legacy when it's all said and done.
If Floyd doesnt take the Cotto fight, people will remember him for ducking him. Calzaghe had to deal with people talking about him ducking Kessler for years. Joe took the fight and won, now Floyd MUST do the same. It's either Cotto or STFU
people wouldnt remember him for ducking cotto, cotto has accomplished virtually nothing in terms of being a great boxer, it would only hurt floyd if he fought no one and refused to fight a top welter. and after everything floyd has accomplished, that is a pretty retarded thing to say.
Mayweather will be remembered for big $$ fights against past their prime former champs. He still has not faced a prime best of the best WW. Paul Williams, Cotto and Margarito are all young guys in their prime who I think beat Mayweather. he wont fight any of them citing the $$. When its all about the $$, then your legacy will be about the $$ not about your greatness as a fighter. Clear out welterweight and then talk to us about how great you were...
i guess 29 is past prime for hatton. you are a moron.
