He's a very strong puncher... but he's no Mike Tyson.
Article after Article called him one of the hardest punchers p4p in the sport. thats rediculous, the guy knocks out rediculously overmatched opponents because he CAN crack a bit, AND he swarms them with shot after shot after shot.
The guy has absolutely no shot against a class opponent, like Manny Pacquiao or Joan Guzman, and i doubt he could hurt either of them.
Again, he DOES hit pretty hard, but i can name 10 bigger punchers EASY.
He just has an astonishing record of all KO's... but then you look at his record and go, "I saw a fighter JUST like this get fucking exposed in every facit of the game on September first... i think his name was Oganov..."
he weighs 130 pounds, man. Valero does.
The Bruce Lee beats Mike Tyson fantasy......is retarded.
I know man, I hear You RUN. Yeah, and it was Bruce VS FOREMAN!
Not for nothing, but as for me, I am a true believer!
You see, before my Unit was sent down range, we trained on many aspects. One was Hand-to-Hand" combat. This dude that was instructing...was 5' 7" and weighed 150lbs, soaking wet, with rocks in his pockets! I'll put it this way...you remember Mr Spock (Star Trek) and how he just squeezing over the shoulder, and dudes would melt? Well, "THAT" is all BS, but this dude instructing knew some things that no matter how big, strong a man is, getting hit in a certain spot will indeed make a man crumble to his knees!
I got no shame in tell you that this person made me "TAP OUT" infront of everybody, and I almost fainted cause that cross arm bar was cutting off my blood circulation.
this ain't that topic.....but I was saying who ever don't think valero can bang....try taking two on the chin.
lol, guys, if Valero could hit all his fights would have ended in round 1, ESPECIALLY last nights.
The guy is heavy handed, but he's nothing close to a DEVESTATING puncher. Kermit Cintron, Kelly Pavlik, and Klitschko are all DEVESTATING punchers, they call all hurt guys with glancing blows.
The only reason Valero is hurting and stopping guys is because he has heavy hands and he trhows punch after punch after punch.
just accept youre crazy instead of making up bullshit that kermit cintron hits harder than valero :lol1:...
mosquera is 3 times better than anyone cintron has beaten, let alone KO'd with one punch....kelly pavlik helps himself with accumulation...
mosquera was world class...i dont like valero that much to be honest but seriously, he beat mosquera only because he has power, so yeah, he hits very hard.....
I seen the fight. I though Mosquera wasnt that smart with himself and notice how Valero wins his fight.
He basicly does to things:
1- He put his right hand covering his oppenet face as well as use the reach advantage
2- He punchs with his left and jumps with it.
lol, guys, if Valero could hit all his fights would have ended in round 1, ESPECIALLY last nights.

Ya right, cause they all have 19 first round KO streaks like Valero? I can understand you saying maybe his power will be overrated once he fights the likes of Marquez or Pacquiao, but theres no denying his raw power against average opponents. Some guys have never been knocked out previously until facing him. And actually, some guys like Pavlik you mention, they are later finishes where accumulation adds up. Not so many early bangers.

Ive seen fights where Valero has threw a right hook and his opponents are out cold for a few minutes,he really is a devestating puncher
Your saying Cintron is a DEVESTATING puncher, but who has he fought? the only devestating punch i seen him land was on Matthyse,Matthyse just got knocked out even worse in his latest fight against Sebastian Lujan, check youtube,he was completely out, they needed medics, who else has Kermit knocked out in devestating fashion?
He landed flush shot after flush shot on Jesse Feliciano who got KOd in four by light hitting Demetrius Hopkins and in 1 round by Mike Arnaoutis,if Edwin was to land that much punches on a guy of Felicianos level,he would have him out, possibly even injure him

but I my next paycheck that "YOU" couldn't take two (a combo) square on the chin.

Well, first off. He does hit hard, and second off, he's just doing that to these overmatched opponents. He knows they aren't in his class, so he's just going out there to bomb them out to make statements. Word has it that he held his own against Morales in sparring and usually got the better of the sessions. He has some boxing skills that he can fall back to if he needs to. Also, Mosquera is world class, and he nearly put him away in the first rd. Mosquera then regrouped, and was taking a beating for the remainder of the fight as Valero's quantity of heavy handed shots eventually wore Mosquera down. You can say he's exactly the same as Manny. When he fights tough or durable opponents, his power won't look as shocking as it is against taxi drivers. Manny had similar results when he was fighting bums, knocking them out left and right with ease. But you sometimes get those durable opponents who won't go away in 1 rd, or world class fighters who are world class for a reason.
I call u crazy,i cant think of 10 guys that hit harder then Valero,Valero is a brutal puncher
I could of swore Brunson's bout to break the record had passed already?
YO! Those punches Edwin Valero throws are wicked!! "YOU" may not think so...but I my next paycheck that "YOU" couldn't take two (a combo) square on the chin. They may not look "fast", but those punches are flush....creating a great KO.
He DOES hit that hard. He just has to face more world class opposition to show this. Mosquera can't be the only one to help prove that to. Don't put him in with Guzman though, that is a horrible matchup for Valero.

Personally think Valero's got a hell of a lot of power.
He can throw a shot off balance with not particulary good technique & still stagger a decent opponent.
He lands clean & it takes a very good chin not to go down.
He's also got excellent stamina - 10 rounds of throwng pretty much non-stop power punches & the guy's still going.
Also seems to have a pretty good chin.
Think that JMM would pick him apart, but he's got a decent chance against anyone else, & would love to see him in against Pacquaio.
Pacquiao would be a clear favourite, but it's one of the more exciting matchups out there.
Valero is one of the HARDEST punchers at 130. Everyone he faces gets rocked several times during the fights, including Mosquera who'se world class. To say he has NO shot against Pacquiao, Guzman etc. is ignorant because he can always get lucky and land a bomb.
That said I do agree that guys like Guzman/Pacquiao etc. would be very difficult for Valero to beat but he most certainly has a punchers chance. And who knows, if he can suck Manny into a brawl he might be able to KO him.
Personally I'd prefer to see him matched up against Pacquiao as that could potentially be Hagler/Hearns type war.
Oh and Kball you are quite correct about Victor Oganov. His 25-0, 25 KO record was built against scrubs and he was sorely exposed the moment he stepped up against Zuniga.
Doug Fischer of Maxboxing is someone who'se opinion I respect. He's spent a significant amount of time watching Valero's career (sparring/early fights etc.) and began heaping praise on Edwin early in his career. Here's what he wrote about Valero in the summer of 06
"Phenoms don’t come around very often and when you see them, you recognize them as being a cut above the rest – instantly.
Seeing Valero train in Joe Hernandez’s tiny gym in Vernon when the southpaw KO artist first arrived to Southern California from Venezuela in late June of 2003 reminded me of watching Shane Mosley workout at the L.A. Boxing Club in the mid-to-late ‘90s. He was a relentless but precise machine during the floor exercises and bag work and a calculating animal in the ring.
Seeing Valero fight at the Irvine Marriott and the Maywood Activity Center in 2003 was reminiscent of witnessing Diego Corrales crush tough journeymen at the Grand Olympic Auditorium in ’98.
It wasn’t just the hand speed, footwork, technique and immense physical strength that, like Mosley, Valero possessed. It wasn’t the one-punch knockout power that, like Corrales, he carried in both hands. It was something in Valero’s eyes – the same burning intensity I saw in the eyes of Mosley and Corrales years ago – that told me, his opponents, and the rest of the world: “I will not be denied”."
So far the guy's been extremely impressive, owns a World Title and is a hell of a lot of fun to watch.
Again, I just hope they match him with Pacquiao instread of Guzman.
mosquera was world class...i dont like valero that much to be honest but seriously, he beat mosquera only because he has power, so yeah, he hits very hard.....
are you SURE that edwin VALERO does'nt hit that HARD? i mean he HAS an impressive RECORD with none of his FIGHTS lasting the DISTANCE.
you can NEVER tell until he STEPS the competion up, until then edwin VALERO is a MYSTERY...
