Where were you when Jay Nady didn't let Ruiz "fight his fight" by hugging Roy Jones all night long in 2003? Hatton's style is just as illegal as Ruiz's so where were you guys when that went down? I didn't hear anybody crying over Ruiz being told what to do by a ref. If Ruiz was forced to fight within the rules and nobody complained, then stop crying that Cortez made Hatton fight within the rules.

I didn't think Nady should have taken over that fight, either.
In both cases, it was clear that the referee had an agenda. See also Rocky Juarez vs. Zahir Raheem...
Ruiz might have lost to Jones anyway, but Nady made sure that there wasn't even a fight...
I couldn't agree more. Hatton has held and hit in 40 bouts in England and looked absolutely terrible when he wasn't allowed to in his bouts in the States. Collazo almost KO'd him and Mayweather did.
How many Hatton fights have you seen? I'm guessing less than 10.
i think the only thing that cortez didnt do enough was warn hatton for excessive holding. mills lane would have taken points for holding.

Please dont comapre Ruiz to Hatton or Jay Nady to Joe Cortez. Cortez ruined that fight, and Im not even biased toward any particular fighter, I wanted a good fight thats all and Cortez was being a dickhead, literally. There was no need to take off that point, that totally changed the rhythym of the fight.
It was Hatton who wanted to come in close and fight on the inside and hold. He made the choice to fight on the inside, Floyd beat Hatton at his own tactics.
Its true, Mayweather even looked Cortez a couple of times like 'wtf?' with his breaking up crap.
Mayweather had come prepared to fight an inside fight.
totally agreed
You're grasping at straws. Did you see the punch stats. It was pretty ridiculously lopsided. Most all the rounds went to Mayweather (the 5th was scored for Hatton by all 3 judges). It would of been the same result (Hatton KO'd). If the fight were closer and Hatton had been more competitive I might agree with you...I do agree the end may of come sooner...But it would of still been Mayweather KO'n Hatton. Hatton was dominated and outclassed in all aspects, and Floyd was just as strong as Hatton if not stronger in the clinches that did happen.
Mayweather was just as strong as Hatton in the clinches. The result would of most likely been the same- Hatton knocked out. Maybe it would of taken an extra round, but it would of happened regardless.
Actually I think a knockout could've came for either fighter, probably much earlier than the 10th because the close quarter stuff was brutal from both sides.

I was all for letting the fight flow naturally... but that is the key adjective... is flow naturally - clenching and pushing your opponent to the ropes so you can maul them?
The ref needed to give them the chance to fight their way out of a clinch.

If cortez wouldn't of kept breaking them up we would of had 8 rounds of grappling two rounds of part boxing part grappling and 2 rounds of running and chasing... but mayweather would of still won by either UD or split...
not really, the ref should've still stood in when necessary during a clench and let it go when the fight flowed naturally

Give it a F*cking rest! Mayweather was just as guilty with regards to holding. Despite everything though, Mayweather was the better fighter, end of.
if alot of fans can say (including mayweather fans) that the ref was crap then he was imo it was stupid to break them up every minute even when mayweather was tryin to fight on the inside lol.

Mayweather was a just as guilty as Hatton regarding foul tactics, and there is no excusing Cortez. Some of his refereeing was diplorable.
