Maybe all pictures seem the same, but here is one example with moving footage of a supposed Floyd elbow that looked like one of the famous Floyd elbow pictures put up by a poster.
Watch at 1:36, round 2
He was focused on Hatton this is true, but Hatton's reputation in fights hasn't been good since the Tszyu fight, and for good reason. He still was breaking them up when the clinch and hit tactic and the headlock move was being displayed so you really cannot blame him for that.
In the UK the Tszyu roughwork was never mentioned. Its true though and the ref should stopped it. But Kosta never complained about it whereas Floyd did and used it as an excuse not to fight in the UK (maybe justified, I don't know).
I'll have to go back and watch this. Round 5 you say?
I will watch later on today...right now, have to go.
Just before Hatton puts him over the ropes Floyd slams a forearm/elbow bang into Hatton's face then Hatton loses it.
You have to stay mentally focused and adapt to anything throughout the fight, which is why Floyd is seperated from most fighters in his era.
Yep, and I acknowledge him as one of the greatest ever and in actual fact a good guy too.
But if you look at it this way, if Hatton didn't get so close to Floyd, which actually smothered his (Ricky's) own punches, which Billy told Hatton he was doing, it would have left more room for Floyd to unload. Ever wonder why Floyd practices short puching, this would be why. Hatton was worried to be countered so he was on him like a wet-white t-shirt, but it also worked against him.
He was fkd past round 6 to be honest, he'd absorbed a lot of heavy punches and elbows from Floyd with the big ones coming following the break ups.
It was a good fight, Floyd is so versatile and has so many strings to his bow. He's a much better outside fighter and a great inside fighter but when both men are fresh and the fight is a allowed to flow, Hatton has the edge as an inside fighter imo.
The Weebler II: The ref definitely seemed more focused on Hatton. Not helped by Roger Mayweather accusing him between rounds.

What about the swinging elbow to the face? Its the other side of the camera range but look closely its a biggie and it connected unlike the additional head shot which missed by a good bit.

Yep, it was the breaking up in the early rounds which killed it as a contest with Hatton getting picked off after the break off. He wasn't consistent either, he didn't break up anywhere near as much after the 4th.

To be honest, I think Floyd prepared for an inside fight. But he was able to take advantage when the ref broke it up early whereas Hatton couldn't because he needed there to be inside fighting. Hatton went in with the reputation built up in the media by the Mayweather camp a week before the fight and the ref stuck tighter to him and missed Floyd's elbows, ducking an
It basically killed Hatton off. He was absorbing too many shots on the break-up so that when the fight became freer and had more of a flow he was punch drunk.

There were lots of warnings on both sides, but only one point taken in the entire fight.

, which was the shoving of Floyd into the ropes then throwing a shot to the back of the head. The other shots to the back of the head were only warnings because it wasn't deemed as intentional as the other.

I too would have liked another ref, like Smoger or Cappuccino, but Cortez did follow the book (from what I am hearing), except he should have been a bit more lenient to let the fighters ref themselves.

You still cannot headlock a fighter or hold and hit, and definitely not hit behind the head, so let's remember that.
Indeed.
If you want to work on the inside, bang away. And yes, both fighters were doing the holding and hitting, but I am still guessing it was Floyd's doing to say, "kiss my ass, I'm doing it right back"...intention to screw with Hatton's head since he is using his tactic against him.

First one is ambiguous as to intention, and hands up the second one (26 secs) is a definite hit. But Floyd is holding in both of them whilst Hatton's trying to get free so thats not legal either.
I take your point tho, he was warned, but both could be considered retaliation for holding, no?
Regarding the R5, Floyd forearm smashes him to the face bigtime, Hatton loses his rag clubs Floyd a couple of times and chases him to which Floyd turns his back. Hatton throws a semi-punch which hits the ropes as Floyd is too low down.
Bottom line, Floyd never gets penalised.

I still don't think any of it mattered, Floyd would have won no matter who the ref was. Floyd comes on strong from the mid point on.
Floyd's head was already down...Hatton looks, then throws.
Look at 26 seconds as well.
It's not the first time Hatton has done this in a fight.
It is easier to hit Floyd on the back of the head because of his style, but when you are hitting fighters' like Tszyu to the back of the head, that's a problem.
So this was an accident as well?

Its fairly ambiguous as to whether he was aiming for the side of the head and Floyd ducked. After all he ends up missing the back of his head which suggests Floyd moved in that instant.

That's true, but check out the first round, at the end, 30 seconds left in the round/ 3:33 on youtube

At 2.04 on the youtube clock Floyd turns Hatton around and punches him in the back of the head. Just throwing that out there.
That's true, but check out the first round, at the end, 30 seconds left in the round/ 3:33 on youtube...and then again with 26 seconds left where he is warned.
This is how a viewed it (round times)
2:15 (Unncessary break)
2:02 (Unnecessary break)
1:56 (Unnecessary break)
1:40 (Mayweather holding Ricky's arm and following it up with a forearm smash)
1:26 (Mayweather hugs Hatton after landing a right hand)
1:07 (Mayweather attempts a rabbit punch - warned)
:59 (Hatton about to unload and Cortez steps in)
:36 (Forearm by Mayweather)
:25 (Mayweather holds Hatton after he gets close)
:01 (Hatton holds Mayweathers arm)
This sort of thing went on for the majority of the fight.
Come on, Hatton lifted his arm immediately. It was Floyd who went under with his ridiculous illegal diving manueovre. A good ref lets the action flow
You want to see a forearm smash look at R5 just before Floyd goes to the ropes.
are you serious? Floyd initiated most of the clinching and hugging. i dont see how you can say otherwise.
I didnt say Hatton initiated the headlock thing, but when that happens i think the ref is right to break them.
And yes, Floyd was the one grabbing Hatton, and the ref should have let the fighters fight most of the time.
Hatton won the round.

Cortez was an absolute joke in the first few rounds.
Fuck off goose and listen and think about what the man says instead of you dumb agenda that is as bias as the Klu Klux Clan .
Well we all know that all you have to do is pressure Floyd and you will win

He has great skill, he should be given credit by now
Here goes the first part for that interview...why Hatton lost
Ragamufin man said Hatton fought with his face, thats rich coming from the punchy pimp anyone else need that translated.
Cortez had far too much influence on this fight end of story all the experts have said so and they know more than us.
Thats why you a dumb fuck Weebler , you get explained exactly what happened by a World Champion that is telling it like it is , with no bias and you ignore it and go on about his outfit and demeanor ,,, you have got shit for brains boy ,, I am so glad I have a son like my boy and never got dealt a retard like you ,,, Thank you so much God !
I'm glad I'm not Australian aka brainless convict so I guess everyone's happy.
I already watched it. I find the guy egotistical and devoid of intelligence.
He's right about Hatton going in with the head but I think Hatton has vision problems, he wears glasses.

Lloyd Honeyghan on Hatton/Mayweather 2/2
(discusses the use of the elbow towards the end, but try to watch from the beg. good video)
