I think that the crowd is also responsible for Hatton's defeat. The support from the fans is great for a fighter, but too much can get overwhelming and might put the fighter under pressure to perform. Imagine walking into the ring, and every eye in the arena is poised on you, and everyone is expecting something extraordinary.
Hatton had more fans flown in than a world cup soccer game. Even the Americans turned British that night. This is bound to have a negative effect.
The crowd's chants were almost throwing Hatton onto Mayweather, without Hatton's consent.
I think he might have performed better had he been a little unpopular. He would have been more cautious, and would have been able to think in the ring more clearly..
he physced himself up, but if you mean he was trying to hard to put on a good show for his fans then you may have apoint, as he was over apologetic at the end to his fans, but I dont think it affected the result
Yes i do mean that he was trying too hard to please the fans, which did not allow him to utilze his boxing skills to the max...Mayweather would probably still beat him(by the way he fought), but had Hatton been fully there, if he is not over rated as a fighter, then he would have inflicted more damage on mayweather than what we saw...

I dont think I have ever heard anything so stupid in my whole life, in fact I think reading it makes us all that little bit stupider. To say Hatton lost because he has too many fans is rediculous, by all means say the pressure got to him, but in all honesty I dont think it did. He fought pretty much the way Hatton fights, and he didnt even tire THAT much, Floyd just stepped it up and made Hatton look slower.
the point is not that Hatton lost because of the crowd....but that the overwhelming crowd did have an effect on his performance....he was overexcited, was walking into punches, he normally would have been able to slip, was getting hit with so many right hand leans, wasn't pausing to recollect himself, wasn't thinking as much as a fighter in a title fight would, for example, jumping right on mayweather after getting knocked down, to get knockeddown again...any half decent boxer would know that if you are getting pummled, you try to stay away and try another strategy....Hatton didn't seem to change anything throughout the 10 rounds.
If we dont try to explain his bad performance, and just say, thats the best he could do...then we can conclude that Hatton is a very average fighter
I didn't say he was a nobody then..but you cannot compare the atmosphere around this fight with that fight against Tzu....this was a much bigger event, with the biggest title of pound 4 pound best on the line.....

Tszyu fight.......BIGGER EVENT? I think you misunderstood the initial quote from BIGPOPPAPUMP
Not fans...skills...as in Floyd had too many. Hatton was in too heavy a weight class and didnt possess the acumen to hang with Mayweather.
Last Hatton Mayweather thread I even read...done with this one kids.
hatton got beat by the better boxer, simple as...he thought he could out hussle and out muscle PBF,he was wrong,he thought he could beat PBF on the inside he was wrong.im a hatton fan but he got a lesson in controlled boxing.floyd just waited patiently to pick his shots late on when hatton was tiring.he is a class act.pity he is a dick most of the time
No excuse.
First off I am a Hatton and not a Floyd fan. I am going to have to agree with Floyd when he said Hatton would be 0-43 if he fought 43 Floyds. I thought Hatton put up a good scrap, but it was only a matter of time. It might have been more competitive if they met a few years back when they were both at 140. Maybe. Floyd is just that much better. Personally, I thought he should have never fought at 147 after Collazo.
Enough with the excuses. It wasn't the crowd or the ref or . Hatton had only one gameplan, he wasn't smart enough to adapt on the night, he was up against a bigger, smarter guy, the best boxer of his generation and he got KO'd. MAyweather's accuracy was phenomenal. Hatton did reasonably well, he put the #1 P4P under a lot of pressure, his fans shouldn't be looking for excuses. He lost to the better fighter, there is no shame or dishonor in that, it's just the way it is.

you are an arsehole and the sooner you realise that the better it will be for you

Hey... so tell hatton to stop being such a nice guy.. and such a friendly friend to everyone in his country.
Stop being so down to earth and hanging out with everyone he meets... stop shaking everyones hand and all that.
Hatton kept help that the people love him. and it comes with the ground when your somewhat of a star.
Its not an excuse, its just a possibility...Hatton was not this big when he fought Tzu....
Although i do think the occasion got the better of Hatton a little bit, i think that Mayweather proved beyond any shadow of doubt that he is the better fighter. Hindsight would even tell you that he'd have won the fight behind closed doors in front of one man & his dog, and although Hatton was desperate to put on a great performance for himself and his followers it didn't materialise because Mayweather was much better than him. Hatton didn't do himself any favours with his gung-ho approach either.

Hattonites never cease to amaze me ~ Didnt he fight Tszyu in a MUCH LARGER arena. The excuses get worse every day.

Ofcourse, i dont intend to take anything away from Mayweather..He did what he had to do....
I just think that Hatton might have performed better with lesser crowd, i dont neccessarily mean that he would win, but would have been a little better than we saw him saturday night.

As much as I hate Floyd, and wish our boy Ricky had done good, this is a pathetic excuse. Ricky lost cos Floyd is better. End of.
The only thing responsible for Hatton's defeat was him running in and Mayweather's check hook!
