The sport is being overrun with ppvs, you can't even see normal fighters nowadays without having to shell out money. I'm not cheap and I pay for the big fights like Hatton vs. Mayweather and I thought it was worth it, theres so much drama watching a fight like that live, but they're starting to go too far. Valero and Linares now have fights against average fighters, and they expect us to pay $30 for it? You've got to be kidding me! This kind of stuff should be shown on Friday Night Fights, Juan Diaz used to have title defences on FNF. FNF almost always have lousy matches now, unless you get Darnell Wilson or someone like that
And it amazes me how little the boxing people think ahead. So many people knew about Hatton vs. Mayweather it amazed me. Around where Im from, this fight caught more people's eyes than De La Hoya. Even people that have never watched 24/7 or even boxing matches were saying things like 'Mayweather stays up late into the night training, so he wont be distracted by dancing with the stars' and stuff. but NONE of those people were willing to shell out $55 to watch it. Really, thats a pretty huge amount, especially because I paid $65 for the HD version. you can bet all those people would have tuned in to watch the match if it was on CABLE television.
Also theres something else I found very interesting. I was searching around for the Nielsen ratings for Calzaghe vs. Kessler, and found them. They got a rating of 0.9. Meanwhile, on NFL Sunday, this small time boxing championship called the AIBA Championships on cable television, FOX, got a rating for 1.1. A bunch of no name fighters got more views than two big name fighters that unified the titles. That tells you how many more viewers boxing could get if they just showed worthwhile matches on cable television!

I know boxing people want a lot of money, but the NFL makes tons of money from being on cable television. while the NFL is waaay bigger than boxing, the money doesnt need to be spread around as much in boxing because youre not paying as many people.
They need to move meaningful boxing matches to cable televison, ESPN, or at least lower the blasted price to somethign more affordable. Many people told me themselves that they would have bought Mayweather-Hatton if it was $20 cheaper
What are you, Black Irish or a fuckin' Jew? Get back to your pawn shop, Jacob Goldsberg.
I am pretty cheap, all I eat is Raman Noodles and Peanut Butter everyday and refuse to buy bottled water because I think its a waste of money :tapedshut
If a boxing promoter took a page from other combat sports like Kickboxing in Japan and got a TV contract for one big fight, the amount of people that would tune in would be ridicules.
If Mayweather Vs Hatton was on live TV (not HBO but ESPN for example), running commercials would be more valuable then the Superbowl and I am pretty sure as many people would tune in.
It would bring in retarded amounts of money.not sure about that, but I agree completely with the rest. I honestly feel I could do a better job than most of the guys in boxing, they just dont seem to be able to come up with catchy themes or marketing plans
I don't buy PPVs, I just go to a local pub or something. The idea of paying 50 beans to watch a sporting event of any kind is insane. When my Pops ordered Morales-Diaz for 44.99, I was like WTF, we already know who is gonna win.

I know few real boxing fans. They know some fighters and think its cool but they wont pay money to watch . Your right they are putting anything on PPV these days. A few of those Top Rank PPVs I wouldnt even watch if they paid me.
really now? I actually had a bunch of college people calling me to ask me about the fight(everyone know Im a boxing fan, haha), and they were not big boxing fans or anything. Even in the meal places you can actually overhear people talking about upcoming matches.
nah, I get the occasional drunk rambling about de la hoya fights but most people think I'm crazy for watching it. They think its boring(which boxing often is).
when I tell people in college about upcoming fights they think I have to be insane to care about it...except ppl on the boxing team. None of my friends or my brother like it. NO chicks like it. I just force my dad to watch lol.
People who watch boxing are seen as low class these days, I dont think it will ever be that popular again(like pro wrestling).

As long as people keep buying.. they are going to keep selling...
But Like My Kids say.. "Boxing is boring".. then they go watch WWE...
Boxing is so poorly marketed.. Boxing is never about the sport.. Boxing is about individuals and it's unorganised...
All sports have ONE governing body.. Boxing has 32.. what else can I say.. Till the greed dies..and everyone gets on the same page.. This is what we are stuck with..
