There have been a number of these "Fighter Of The Year" polls, pretty much after each major fight.. We had one after Pavlik, Calzaghe, Cotto, etc.. but I always felt that it is premature to pick a FOTY while the big fights are still on the horizon.
Now that the last Mega-Fight is over, I'd like to thank all the Boxers, the promoters, the networks for making this a great Year of Boxing!
Now Lets Vote!
TOP 3 Candidates:
Kelly Pavlik - KO Zertuche, KO Miranda / KO Taylor - An underdog in last two fights. Dominated all three opponents. Down in a Taylor fight, but came back and knocked Taylor out!
Miguel Cotto - KO Urkal, KO Judah, UD Mosley - No comments necessary
Pretty Boy Floyd Joy Money Sinclair-Mayweather - SD De La Hoya, KO Hatton. Two biggest fights of this Millennium. While being a favorite in both fights.. Mayweather defeats the bigger De La Hoya and KO's, what many thought his toughest opponent yet.

Paqcuiao, Calzaghe, Juan Diaz - Honorable Mentions, but did not do enough to be considered with the fighters above.
Mayweather has clearly bagged it.
Pavlik and Cotto had huge years, but this was Money May's year.
How can you say that???
You have to keep it real for Mayweather.. what did he do, got a split over a drag and KOed an undersized Light Welter?
Just kidding! LOL
Or am I?
Floyd Mayweather, two of the biggest fights in boxing history, moved up in weight to fight DLH at Light Middle, weighed in as a Welterweight come fight night,Oscar was a middleweight on fightnight, and Floyd won
Hatton fight,i and alot of people thought it was his hardest task, especially after the build up and 24/7,how hard and relentless Hatton was training and how much he was saying he was gna win the fight,Floyd knocked him out,a devastating left hand
Kelly Pavlik a close runner up
I'd also like to see Pavlik nail this one..
but I don't think he will be able to repeat history on 2/16/08
While Pavlik has great power and is a good puncher, I feel Taylor will make the needed adjustments to win the rematch.
BUT.. it may very well be that Pavlik has already gotten to Tayor's head and has already beaten him.
FOTY as in Fighter, not Fight....
Oh sorry about that.
Fighter of the year has to be Floyd Mayweather then, beating a bigger guy who was once probably P4P no1 in DLH and then knocking out an undefeated non stop brawler like Ricky Hatton would be impressive in any era.
I'd like Pavlik to take the honors with Cotto following closely. Pavlik had a great comeback against Taylor and had a great win against probably the next biggest threat Miranda. Cotto meanwhile, blew away Judah and had a nice technical win against Mosley which says a lot to technically outclass someone like Mosley.
Sprott vs Skelton!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd pick Pavlike seriously though, like someone said it is all about the underdog.
oops just saw the post above: It's Pretty Boy Floyd Joy Money Sinclair-Mayweather
