Thoughts on Floyd Mayweather (Hatton too)

Floyd fought ugly and dirty, because he was in with a class of opponent which required him doing that for winning. Floyd comes to win, not to look flashy. Roy Jones never faced a challenger as live as Hatton after age 25. So the point of "Roy would have done this and that" is simply ridiculous. Roy Jones never faced anyone close to Hatton after he fought Toney. Sure McCallum and Hill are great names, but one was a 39 years old former jr. middle and Hill just went through the grind of DM. Mad credit to jones for dominating them, but they dont imply nothing on how he would fight hatton.

Eh, no. Roy had more power, and sure he did his moves, but his power and combos flowed more frequently than Floyd's did. Roy wouldn't hold Ricky's left arm all night like Floyd did to Hatton. Roy was always more fun to watch than Floyd could ever hope to be. All the weakness of Hatton that allowed Floyd to stop him would have gotten Hatton stopped even earlier vs Roy. Hatton smothered himself as well, and no he should not have been on the outside. I never said that. He should have been in close but not so close than he can't even punch. Notice the difference here. On P4P scale Roy is a waaaaaaaaaaaay bigger puncher than Floyd. While I do agree, that if Prime Roy was against someone similar to Hatton (in style), he would've fought more offensively and throw more combos. Don't forget to mention how much of a bigger puncher he is than Floyd on a p4p scale.

Either way, where are all the British fans to whine about the negative stuff I said about Hatton? It seems a lot of you Floyd fans focus only on the negative even after a big win. Acting as if I only detracted from Floyd. Don't be so sensitive, ladies.

Jack, you're right. Roy was the better offensive fighter. But Floyd's defense makes him the one with more longevity.

Kayann ur krazeeeeee......... roy was only athletic....... he was not a technical fighter............ he dosent compare to floyds skills......... athletic he does............... but boxing skills aint even close mayweather by a landslide.......... Offensively Roy's better than Floyd. Defensively Floyd's better than Roy. That's my honest opinion.

.................... Roy was not a risk taker, but he took more risks than Floyd in fights for the sake of hurting someone. Let's see how Floyd looks when he's 36 if he's brave enough to stick around that long. And let's see him go back down to 135 or 130 and do what Roy couldn't. Well since someone bought up Roy. Roy had a whole lot of unentertaining fights. And you want to talk about Roy taking risks? ...................... Mayweather should get some credit. He fought one of the best fighters in the world last night and won by stoppage. Certainly, this surprised me. Mayweather unleashed some power (finally) late in the fight. After back to back wins this big, Floyd is an all time great. However, he was still shit to watch as usual. When he was younger, the combos would flow like a river. Vs Hatton, he mostly pot shotted and held. The way he used elbows to the face, and his right arm to clamp down Ricky's left to his body, was annoying as hell. That is not boxing. It's dirty. Floyd went through hell last night and showed some grit though. He fought fire with fire. Hatton looked good for 7 or 8 rounds. He was definitely in the fight. But he got tired and the big stage affected him more than Floyd, though Floyd looked nervous in the early going. Perhaps no one will be able to mimick what Castillo did to Floyd. Hatton brought a lot of tenacity, but foolishly he smothered his punches over and over again. He could have given himself a half foot more on the inside to unleash his fast hands. Instead, he pushed Mayweather and tired himself out as he found Mayweather to have good stamina over the long haul. Congrats to Ricky for his effort, and Floyd for another big win. But what an ugly dirty fight. Please don't compare Floyd to Roy any more. Roy would have never been in a fight that lame with someone like Hatton, even with the mauling tactics of Hatton. it was a boring fight I though until the brutal KO which made watching it on sopcast worth it :) preliminary fights didnt help, Gatti/ward wouldnt have been exciting after that shit.

Watching last night's fight made me so sad... I keep waiting and hoping for someone to finally break Mayweather's nose cause I just hate his attitude so much. Problem is he's just so damn good, I don't see anyone under 154 beating him so we may have to put up with his mouth for quite some time to come...

Wtf are you talking about, SLW? That was a great fight. To be a boxer and not appreciate what Mayweather was able to do is strange to me. He hardly threw any punches. Hatton smothered himself. Floyd held a lot, even as much as Ricky. It was lame until the last couple rounds when Floyd started to land more and popped Hatton. It was an exciting event. I was really into it. But it was absolutely not a pleasing fight to watch.
