Hatton's Mum Reveals Retirement Pact

Dec 5 2007 Ricky Hatton has made a "pact" with his family to quit boxing after he turns 30 next year, his mother revealed on Wednesday. The undefeated Hitman is preparing for the biggest fight of his career this weekend when he challenges American great Floyd Mayweather for the WBC welterweight title in Las Vegas, and there is already talk of a Wembley showdown with Oscar de la Hoya should Hatton upset the odds in the early hours of Sunday morning. Hatton's mum Carol told BBC Radio Five Live: "It's the last lap of his career now. He's 30 next year and we all made a pact. Two or three more fights. Because, after 30, your reflexes slow down." She added: "You've got more chance of getting hurt. He doesn't need the money now. "How many boxers do you know who come back for the money and unfortunately terrible things happen?

30 definitely isn't too old, I mean Calzaghe's 35 and his reflexes are still amazing. It's just an excuse, really. Calzaghe is a completely different type of fighter. Smaller fighters, especially ones that rely on pressure and speed, usually age a lot faster. That is why heavyweights can go on and on into their late thirties and fourties. If you are cagey enough and you dont get hit much, you can go on well into your 30's. Hatton is not in that category.

I know exactly how this will play out. Hatton will fight a comeback fight early next year and than face Oscar in May or September after his loss to Floyd. Floyd is going to be on vacation for a while allowing everything to play out in the WW division probably facing whoever the biggest name is at the end of the year. Only one fight for him next year, two at the most.

Ricky will lose this fight, come back for an easy one in Manchester, and then lose to DLH in September and retire. Hell, if Mayweather whoops that ass like I know he will, Ricky might not even WANT to continue.

damn this went from a battle of prime dudes to a battle of semi retired cats.. 1st Floyd which I can understand and now Ricky, truth be told I wouldn't mind if they do retire, they'll get the respect they earned, they'll get the bad and the good out of their careers pointed out, everything will play into form but if they don't want to do this no more then bounce and stay out, let Cotto come up, let Williams come up and people like Cintron bloom.. I have no problem with them leaving but just leave immediately, don't make a grand exit where you sauce the fans and keep hopes high just walk out and close the door behind you.. 100
