At one point it was so bad Floyd was looking at Cortez 'like wtf? why you breaking us up now'? The point taken away was just the latest poor decision in 6 rounds of poor and partial refereeing. Cortez has since been discredited as a ref and there was widespread criticism of his handling of this fight and subsequent fights. Kudos on being probably the only FMJ fan to recognise he wasn't getting the better of the inside exchanges until the 7th round, but he wouldn't have gotten any advantage on the inside at all if Cortez was not obsessed with needlessly breaking the two fighters up. That's what wore Ricky down as he was getting caught on the way in. Now, want to discuss Khan v Peterson and Hopkins v Calzaghe? :) I just can't say it was bad reffing. Hatton fights have tie ups where too much time goes by without a punch while he maneuvers his opponent into position. It leads to VERY ugly fights. The Mayweather fight was reduced to just ugly, which still benefited Hatton much more than Mayweather. Cortez reduced extended tie ups, which could be better labeled as constant clinching/ hugging, but still allowed Hatton to wrestle and move Mayweather to the ropes. Mayweather made him pay to get in and began to break him down on the inside. In fact, if you watch Cortez towards the second half of the fight, he's often pulling down Mayweather's glove from behind Hatton's left armpit. In a way, I think Hatton came in a bit too arrogant. Too much talk about what Kostya Tszyu couldn't do to him while Billy Graham was trying to warn him to respect Mayweather's power. Khan/ Peterson? I thought Khan, and his fans, should be less than proud at how he fought. I felt that when Khan started back-pedaling and pushing while Peterson adjusted his initial tactics and began to scrape Khan along the ropes that it was Peterson's fight. I was surprised the fight was that close on the cards and on this board. It was clear Peterson was dominating that fight physically and the same people who thought the Khan/ Maidana fight was close with Maidana doing the exact thing Peterson was suddenly switched up. This fight also had a lot of rough tactics for boxers of their pedigree. Khan was pushing and pulling Peterson's head down to put an elbow on his neck but a couple times Peterson used some terrible elbows to hold Khan in place on the ropes. Calzaghe/ Hopkins? Another fight I can't believe was that close. I always felt Calzaghe's workrate would be much too much for just about any fighter that couldn't make him hesitant to throw. Hopkins couldn't. And with that work-rate and the handspeed to go with it, even when his punches don't land, it seems like he's landing on his opponent at record numbers.

I've also seen Hatton approaching without throwing a punch, holding and pushing Mayweather towards the rope: illegal. I've seen a couple Hatton headlocks which led to breaks. Hatton's success has come from getting Mayweather on the ropes, pushing with his open glove and then throwing punches while Mayweather's has come from throwing clean shots when given a little bit of space. As both did the same thing over and over, this is a microcosm of most of the fight. This fight actually changed in ROUND 7, when Joe Cortez was only interfering to keep them from completely tying up on the inside. Mayweather began to out-fight Hatton on the inside while still touching him when Hatton was charging in. Most of Mayweather's inside work was bodyshots, btw. Towards the end of that round, you see Mayweather smile. This is an indication that the fight is over in his mind. Less than a minute into round 8, ANYONE who follows both fighters should also see that the fight is over. Hatton's aggression has been checked. Mayweather is standing his ground when they tie up. Hatton is the one breaking the tie ups and backing up. Mayweather is beginning to throw in combinations (when his focus shifts from defense to trying to beat his opponent up...). Hatton is trying to cover up. So, when I saw your post, I started at round four and the fight was over by the end of the 7th. Both were doing illegal things with Hatton initiating the holding and eventually getting beat at his own game, I would like for you to point out the corruption, as it must be in the first three rounds. And the point deduction? It didn't matter as it didn't go to the cards, didn't stop Hatton from rushing in and Mayweather never turned his back like that again so don't reference an isolated incident, if you will.

That doesn't seem logical given that Floyd is neither as big as Collazo, nor is he a southpaw like Collazo, which causes Ricky big problems in and of itself. Whether this fight is at 140 or 154, Ricky is still the stronger fighter in body. De La Hoya said after his fight, "Floyd is faster and hits a lot harder than he looks"

I would not call the fight with Oscar a joke of a win. It was a close call but PBF was fighting a guy with speed and power, who was by far the bigger man and still had a good fight. I gave Oscar a much better chance than Ricky to beat PBF. How can you say for sure that he is not going to run out of gas? He ran out of gas against Collazo which is something PBF has NEVER done. Gatti and Corrales had the biggest hearts in boxing but they both had a look of complete despair while getting clocked with 5 punch combo's while hitting nothing but air themselves.
