Yes Floyd is the villain. He is not as popular as Hatton. He knows that, his fans know that. The Money Mayweather shtick he has been using (flashing his cash and showing off his cars) as of late is a way to make people hate him even more which tranlates into more Cash Money. Floyd's bad guy image is the reason why the May. 5th fight broke all records including the Tito-Delahoya ppv. There is a difference between popularity and mass appeal.
Floyd is not in the Pacquiao, Calzaghe, Hatton, Chavez, Trinidad category. These guys are heroes in their home country and they represent their countrymen everywhere they go. Floyd only represents Floyd Mayweather.....forget U.S.A.
As of right now, he is the top villain in the game. Can we all agree on that? Like a heel wrestler in Wwe, you know the guy everybody booo's everytime he comes out. He is the most talked about fighter in every boxing forum....those are facts. Whether the fans love you and cheer for you or whether they hate your guts and still buy your ppv......it's all the same. Money doesn't discrimate.......it's all green, which is why floyd has been cashing in major.
This thread was inspired by the endless repetative back and forth nonsense at the "Ellerbe: Fans coming for Floyd, not Ricky" thread.
No one is denying that Hatton has a more loyal and dedicated fanbase.
But to suggest that Hatton is the draw in this fight, is absolutely fucking retarded.
Put Hatton vs. a "nobody" in any soccer stadium in England, you'll get a sell-out. Put Mayweather vs. a "nobody" in a basketball arena, it won't come close to selling out (just like when he fought in Detroit a few years ago). Mayweather needs that name opponent to get people to see him fight. It's that simple.
Hatton can sell out as many arenas as he wants back at home but he can't get the kind of money he will get fighting Mayweather if he fought a hundred times at Manchaster. Comprehension skills please OR at least read the Topic at hand.

Rofl.
Mayweather-Baldomir generated more money than Hatton-Tszyu.
I love your logic.
It's simple math, people. Hatton might have 20,000 people willing to spend travel to see him fight, and another 100,000 people in the U.K to spend $50 to watch him fight.
But that's nothing compared to the 1,000,000 or so in the United States, that are going to shell out $50, because of Floyd Mayweather

i agree with that except if by "capitalize on it" u mean trying to ko hatton
by that i mean land some combos. not realy going out of his way to break away from typical floyd, he will still be cautiouse but more combos as fight goes on
hatton is gonna leave with his face intact and if by some chance mayweather actually tries to hurt him and engages him hatton will be the winner by ko
floyd throws chopping shots, hatton is going to come in and go forward he will throw punches even if it means takeing floyds pot shots. altho hatton doesnt run out of gas like most fighters after finding nothing but elbows the pot shots will start to annoy him. he will go wild and floyd will capitalize on it.
dude im not exaggerating judah is one of the most overrated boxers out there even now when he has like 6 loses ppl still pick him to beat margarito or cintron and judah is anything but "dominant" he lacks courage and mental strenght
Well, that's your opinion. There's already a thread about this topic anyways, maybe you'd like to express it in more detail there.
How Do You Rate Zab Judah?
^All that I can say is that I disagree and apparently, others do as well.
Someone make a poll so we can see who the bigger draw is at least on THIS forum.
Then maybe you retards will stop telling people to
"PROVE IT PROVE IT"
While neither side proves anything except the only thing they are good at arguing about is how good they argue.
Let me amend my previous post to most definitely include Joe Louis. I used Ali is my prime subject because he's more recent to the younger fans. But, there is no doubt that Joe Louis, as well as Jack Dempsey, were household names of gigantic proportions.
Boxing was a much biggers sport back then. Alot less money for the fighters and alot more $ for the promoters.
Now the top fighters are cashing in, handling their business and the sport is declining as far as mainstream appeal goes.
Makes no difference to us hardcore boxing fans.

but thats at a time were boxers were top athlets, being payed more than top baseball players (ruth)
even if he koed judah wich is unlikely judah has been exposed time and time again not to mention he was coming of the most devastating lost in his career
running from the top welters like cotto margarito or williams is somewhat acceptable but when ur running from average fighters like past his prime de la hoya or baldomir and after talking so much crap and claiming to be the best in the world well lets say it gets u the hate mayweather gets
he made them look silly, if he was just running then why did people leave with a marked up face? de la hoya never really showed much damage in his carrere, but hatton is known for cutting
Why are people continuing on about Ali's popularity? Take Micheal Jordan, Tiger Woods, Ali, Tyson, DLH, Magic Johnson and Dale Earnhardt(?) and they STILL wouldn't equal the popularity Joe Louis had.

Before Mayweather, he'd only lost 3 fights, one to the undisputed welter weight champ and during his first fight at welter weight and another to the most dominant jr. welter weight of the past decade. Stop exaggerating.
Didnt mayweather appeared on Jay leno or something like that???
Yes he did. And believe it or not the May5th fight helped him increase his popularity amongst the casual boxing observers. Do you seriously think all that money made on The World Awaits just came from hardcore boxing fans?
Half the building that night was full of casual boxing fans who didn't even know that the WBC jr.middleweight title was on the line. When the decision was announced and Buffer went "And the new!!!!!", most thought that Oscar won because they thought that Floyd was the Champ.
Floyd's name and stock has risen because of that fight. Alot more people know him who don't even watch boxing.......TRUST.
See how much i care?:tapedshut
Dude, last I checked the thread wasn't asking how popular he was in AMERICA. Hatton has 20,000 fans coming over.
20,000 fans coming over and probably spending 2 or 3 grand for a guy that is supposedly a massive 'underdog'.
What is it about this that is so hard to understand?
It doesn't fucking matter that he has 20,000 fans coming over to support him. The overall bulk of the money being generated from this fight is because of Floyd Mayweather. Bottom line. And God help you if you even try to dispute this.
Therefore, HE IS THE DRAW.
Comprende?

joe louis was great, but i think MJ tiger and ali have passed him, if not for sports but for what they have done after sports carrere
The point is that Floyd is the bigger fish in the ocean and is also bigger in the bigger pond. The smaller pond is irrelevant.
seeing it from our side (american) it seems that way, but hatton is bigger in england than floyd is in america
Given DLH-Mayweather, 24/7, Dancing with with the stars, and his various other media appearances, I'd have to disagree with this assessment. Floyd is definitely a household name.
No way Jose. I can go to the office and ask anybody about Mayweather, and they don't know who the hell I am talking about. You're deluding yourself if you believe that.
