Mayorga targets Cotto, Floyd!
By Felipe Leon
Although former world welterweight and super welterweight champion Ricardo Mayorga won the WBC's Continental Americas super middleweight championship with his victory over Fernando Vargas, "El Matador" says he has no intention of staying in the 168lb division. "In February I'm going to start working to go down to 147lbs," he said. "I'm coming after Cotto and I'm coming after Mayweather and I want to show the world that I'm the champion of the 147lb division."

mayorga doesn't deserve a title shot, he needs about 2 "cross roads" fight before he get's a title shot...his options are GOMEZ CHAVEZ JR BERTO JUDAH OR CLOTTEY
i think mayorga actually beats judah. look at it this way. judah gets thrown off his game really easy when things aren't going his way. so if you havce mayorga yelling at him insulting him like he does to everyone else judah would get irate and just try to kill him and it wouldnt happen. if he was able to keep his cool like the first half of the floyd fight than yea i can see him beating mayorga. but if he goes off his fight plan like he is known for doing, its over mayorga beats him and could even KO him. cotto KOes mayorga. and all floyd would do is run around the ring land counters and go home with a UD. alot like the baldo fight. (only mayorga would atleast have a pulse in the ring)
This is how i see it if he fights Floyd it will be like the Spinks-Mayorga fight with Floyd taking a decision and Cotto-Mayorga will be like the De La Hoya fight with Cotto knocking Mayorga out

This guy can't be serious about thinking he an beat someone like Floyd.
Defense really is enough to beat Mayorga, because Butterbean punches faster than Mayorga.
The thing is to a point skills go out the window when fighting Mayorga, because if even for a bit youre going to end up fighting his fight, which gives him a chance. Spinks who is much more talented than Mayorga, got a gift decision, and Vernon who is also more talented got owned twice. Mayorga in recent memory has only been beaten by Oscar and Tito, and any one who tries to trade with those two guys at higher weights than they should be fighting wouldve probably met the same fate. Mayorga is a threat to anyone, simple as that. I dont think yall remember him at 147, rock solid chin and more power than anyone in the division. He let Tito put left hooks to his chin at 160, imagine what he could let Mayweather do to him.

They're also big risk, low reward fights at this point. And in a division that he's not interested in fighting on. PLUS, he beat Forrest, twice.
Maybe Forrest was sick, had arm problems, maybe he was dead at the time. Regardless.
The belt will lead to much bigger paydays for him. He has to know this. A fight with Cotto would end up getting him knocked out and LOCKED out of the title-shots for another long time. In case, like I said, he just wants a last big payday. Which I wouldn't blame him for.
He seems to be ignoring Vernon and Karmazin, though. I think he just wants the big money right away.

Agreed. It's an easy fight to make anyway, and it gives Mayorga another title shot.

Like you said earlier, It would be nice to see him in against Karmazin.
But I seriously think Forrest is in his near future.

You see, the possibilities are ENDLESS, lol.
Mayorga taking on (and losing to quite a few of these guys)
- Zab Judah..
- Floyd Mayweather..
- Shane Mosley..
- Miguel Cotto..
- Antonio Margarito..
- Alfonzo Gomez..
- Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (Not now.. down the road)
- Andre Berto..
- Kermit Cintron..
Jesus.. I for one, WELCOME Ricardo Mayorga to the welterweight division.
And what about Paul Williams? Damn, the ww division is loaded right now!..
I'd like to see Mayorga take on Alfonzo Gomez at ww....

Why in the fuck should he fight Spinks? He lost to him, Spinks is a division ABOVE the division that Mayorga wants to be in.
Mayorga fought the three biggest names that this generation had (excluding Mosley, which is still possible) and now he's got a DECENT win (regardless of how shot Vargas was/wasn't.. Mayorga was expected to lose, and dropped and beat the bigger man.) The fact is, if he fought a tune up at welterweight and then maybe Mosley to gage his imortance to the division.. I'd LOVE to see him against Cotto or Mayweather. He'd lose but it'd be fun.
