1) Positively impressed by Cotto staying cool, and defending. A side of him I did not really noticed before (except when weathering the storm in the fights in which he was hurt, but this is different).
2) Very positively impressed: Evangelista Cotto seems to be a rare case of father-trainer, who reads the fight well. If he fights Mayweather, he will really need a smart corner
3) Negatively impressed by Mosley missing punches. While it was clear that his (relative) reluctance to throw his shiny combos, was courtesy of Cotto's efficient attack. His missing was definitely a sign of aging, as was the case with Cottos' handspeed. Yes Cotto is skilled, and used good D, but please go back at seeing young Mosley and you will see what I mean.
4) PLUS: I am finally sold on Cotto's chin's definitely being better at 147 than at 140. Not exacty granite, but definitely not the liability it became in his latest fights at 140.
I am giving Cotto a much better chance of beating Mayweather than I did before. Not so much bcos of speed, strength, power, chin or anything (i pretty much knew that already), but bcos of his (and Evangelista's) ability. to "plan your work, and work your plan" as Ray Robinson used to say
147 looks really good for next year. If Mayweather beats Hatton and Cotto, we really witnessed one of the all time greats at work. If he loses or retires we have plenty of other good fights to see.
Am I the only one that wants Cotto-Mayweather at the end of the year? It may be to unify the belts. Floyd faces Cintron-Williams winner and Cotto faces Marg and Clottey, then the two hook up in November or December for all the marbles. It would be like two future all time greats fighting to unify the division. Sorry let me pick my drool off the floor.
too bad williams will spoil that pipe dream. sorry but my opinionated ass thinks williams is the true great in this division and we dont know it yet.
I was more impressed with Cotto the second time. He won by a very wide margin. When I watched it live I was rooting for Mosley, and I overestimated his effectiveness in my enthusiasm. But Cotto landed the cleaner, harder shots from beginning to end, was better defensively and did what he needed to take most rounds.

I rewatched that fight, too....and Mosley won that fucking fight. He won about 8 rounds.
8?
I mean it was a close fight, not very easy to score, I had it 7-5 Cotto, and I can see up to 7 rounds for shane.
Another thought: Shane is a throwback. I have great respect for him. The way he rematched Forrest and Winky straight away, the way he fought cotto...
