I cant believe how much b!itching there has been about guzman's win last night.. The same crap gets critisized about floyd and spinks.. If you cant respect superior defense and dodging, and accurate punching you dont even deserve to be a boxing fan if you ask me..
Go watch some street fights...
here, theres plenty to go around...
:bottle: :bottle: :bottle: :bottle:
that's why my top 3 favorite boxers are who they are. They are the epitome of what boxing shouls be
1. Bernard Hopkins
2. Cory Spinks
3. Winky Wright
actually Winky Wright isn't that bad. Make #3 Audley Harrison.
alright thats cool... but some just want to see all out war and dont respect the sweet science.
Well those people can watch a tough man contest if all they want to see is punching! I admit I love a good brawl, but I also enjoy watching a great technical boxing match. I do like a bit more action then you might see in your run of the mill Cory Spinks fight though. Doesnt mean I wont watch the fight though.
It has nothing to do with watching the "wrong" sport. I can watch a great defensive fighter and appreciate the talent, but I would rather watch someone who came to actually fight some as well.

i agree with the guy who started the thread.
i personally hate mayweather but not because of how he fights, but because i think he is an asshole. but i really enjoy watching him fight....ive seen 5 of his fights and have enjoyed all of them. the fight against oscar i think it was a good fight, of course not an epic or excitent one, but a really well fought by both of them. i really enjoy watching his skills and everything, but he just cant be one of my favorites boxers cos i dislike the guy xD. ive seen spinks one time against rodney jones and i fell asleep xD, but i will look for another of his fights to have a better opinion.
there is one fight that people often say is boring but i just loved it, it was watching a boxing lesson xD...the one between wright - trinidad. winky just schooles tito and it was a joy watching a guy fighting so perfect.
good post!
how can a person claim to be a boxing fan when they don't appreciate pefect classic text book boxing? (Guzman, Mayweather, Casamayor, whitaker, ect).
this is true...
You hate Floyd and that is your right. But you are dumb as shit if you think people paid $54 or will pay it again to see Floyd get beat. Maybe people like you pay that much to see him get beat but everyone else pays to see a master technician at work. No one, and I emphasize NO ONE gets paid $20 to $30 million if most of the people buying the fight and attending thinks they are boring. Ricky Hatton is supposedly exciting but he has never made more than $3 million in a fight in his entire career. And considering the fact that Hatton drew 4,200, 5,100 and 9,000 people, including Brits to his three fights in the U.S., obviously not many on this side of he pond is that impressed with him. Floyd made more money in his last fight against De La Hoya than Hatton has made in his entire career. Boring, unpopular people don't make that much money.
No hate.... speaking for myself, I would define it as "disappointment."
Secondly, if you think Floyd appeals to the masses, then you are sadly mistaken. I can go to the office and ask every person that works there: "Who is Floyd Mayweather, Jr.?" Nobody will know the answer, and if by chance they do know who he is, they simply don't care. He's no Ali, or even Tyson for that matter.
You're right to say that Floyd is making the big bucks, but in the end we're talking about a guy that's primarily known to the boxing public.
Floyd is a talented boxer, undefeated, and a champion. On the other hand, he is disrespectful of almost every other boxer in his weight class, contemporary or past, he is fairly contemptuous of boxing fans (ie.. flipping off crowds, etc...), he has shown a remarkable tendency to cherry pick opponents, and go for decisions instead of going after his opponents. And, he does this while claiming he is "the greatest of all time." He does this after popping off that he's gonna be knocking opponents out.
Now this is not what I call "endearing" himself to the fans and it gives rise to legitimate scrutiny. IMO many people will buy the Hatton-Floyd fight just for the prospect of seeing Floyd getting beat. I don't think this is a controversial observation. Unlike you, there are many that won't be buying the fight because of some Floydilian hero worship, or to see boxing artistry at its very finest. That's a shame and Floyd has nobody to blame but himself.

If the criticism of Floyd and similar types is a "f---ing joke" like you say, then why do you bother to respond? Why get on our "level" since we're all "life's flunkies", in your high opinion?
Floyd did this to himself with his big mouth and his performance in the ring.
Ok, you'll pay big bucks to see Floyd and Corey Spinks dance around, smile at each other, collect their money, and shoot their middle finger at the fans. Good for you. Other people can't stand that shit. It's a rip-off. Luckily for Floyd, people continue to pay in order not to miss the fight where Floyd gets his hat handed to him once and for all. That's a unique business plan indeed. I wonder if he invented it or if things just naturally developed? I suspect the latter.

Went straight over your head didnt it Wiley , you thinks its just criticism that appears from people like you , its a phobia ,,, and you try and profess that you are an old guy , yeh right !
I post here because I love the sport of boxing and not all the posters here are negative people , the tall poppy syndrome is alive and kicking everywhere and that is very sad .
A phobia? lol Now that's a uniquely hypocritical response.
The problem is that any discussion that is justly critical of Floyd is regarded as blasphemous by some Mayweatherites. As if the law were being broken. A certain knee jerk reaction, usually complete with personal invective, and childish remarks. There's your phobia.
Instead of going after the messenger with childish invective like "life's flunkies", why don't you go after the message? Address the cause. Maybe you're afraid to.

You mentioned your son, is he a boxing fan? If so, I'm sure he watches Floyd. Doesn't it annoy you that all Floyd does is desrespect opponents and talk about how much money he has, and all the materialistic thing with your kid watching and idolizing him. He is the face of boxing and he should consider what kind of a role model he is. I would prefer that the p4p #1 of our sport would be a more classy and humble guy.
Thats the only criticism I have of him. Inside the ring he is the best, especially when he was fighting guys his own size (he was more explosive).
Barker I have never disputed Floyd's claim that he is a great fighter. He is great and is an all timer. And has one of the best skillsets I've seen from any modern fighter not named Pernell Whitaker.
The bar is always higher and as long as he continues to take these "consequential" title fights, there will always be controversy with him. I don't care how you spin it. If he keeps calling himself 'the greatest', i'll judge him as such.
I admire Floyd as a fighter a lot but I will be forever convinced that he lost his first fight to Castillo.
You bolded it for me thank you. You think he one that is your opinion fine, he rematched him and beat him, period. You haters tend to grasp at anything you can no matter what. You want to judge him against the greatest so be it, but you can judge him without all the hate and bashing, it makes you look petty and ignorant my friend.
