don't forget he went to Ecuador to fight segundo mercado and was knocked down twice in mercado's hometown and still got a draw because he fought so hard, and he almost had mercado out in the last round too. not to forget that fight was also held in the mountains of Ecuador at 11 thousand feet in elevation, try fighting in that thin air, mercado was acclimated to the thin air because that was his hometown where he trained. the old man is a tough mofo.
and although the old man hasn't been out of the country a bunch, he has fought in a lot of other peoples backyard. hopkins hasn't had a whole lot of fights in philly, his hometown, and he's gone into others and won.
the thing is, when you are a fighter in the states, other fighters tend to migrate to the states to try and make it into the big time, so in reality the US is basically the melting pot of the world when it comes to boxing.
and from going from the east coast to the west coast, north and south, all those places are like going to another country, especially if you go to the south, that is like going into another world but that's a different topic all together.
in all fairness hopkins is traveled and has fought world competition. seriously trying to discredit him make no sense other then the fact that people are haters.......................the man has accomplished more then most could ever dream to. be realistic ya'll.
This sounds like making excuses for American fighters staying home. European fighters are expected to fight in the US but for an American fighter travelling to a different state is considered to be abroad? Calzaghe fought in Denmark and Germany which are far more alien than a fighter from Philadelphia fighting in New York. Fair play for Hopkins fighting for his first title in Ecuador, but Calzaghe gets criticism for staying at home despite making title defenses in other countries.
I'd be surprised if Hopkins pulls the same shit he did 5 years ago. There's simply not another fight out there for him, so it's either retirement, fight Calzaghe or ridicule.
You get the feeling this fight won't happen. unless:
1./ Joe lets Ol' Popkins nail his girlfriend
2./ Joe lets Hopkins choose the referee, the venue
3./ Hopkins chooses what Calzaghe has for breakfast
4./ Hopkins selects Calzaghe's ring outfit/hairstyle he sports (he did say he was cute)
5./ Joe accepts the £3 that Hopkins will begrudging allow him for the fight
6./ Joe must let Enzo become Hopkins maid for a year, complete with sexy french maid outfit
7./ Frank Warren must give Bernard Hopkins a handjob
I'm rooting for Hopkins to be reasonable because Joe is not going to be fucked over at this stage of his career, he needs to make the big bucks now. If it doesn't happen its down to Ol' Popkins. Joe reported to have called out Hopkins once more after taking a dump early this morning.

Of course he is. But if Calzaghe is criticised as a home bird then Hopkins must be. It's not as if Calzaghe hasn't fought in the opponents back yard - he wasn't the local fight for Reid, Woodhall, Veit or even Eubank fights whilst the Delaney bout back in his British days was some nasty shit.
Bla bla bla, Hopkinsspeaks crap we all know that, so no need to quote him to make him out to be a fool.
He runs his gob to try and provoke reaction purposely. He really is the noisiest kid in the playground.
Calzaghes gonna shut him up, thats if nard has the balls to get it on ??
Hopkins didn't admit anything..you simply took him out of context.:) If you're suggesting that Hopkins isn't a great Champion, then maybe you should find another sport to be a fan of. This can be considered trolling.
he quoted hopkins. got a problem with that?
Full of himself now BH. Calling himself a legend and stuff. And why does he say he would beat JC easy?. Why not say he would just beat him, but go overboard with the EASY word?.
Now that I think about it, while this quote makes him a hypocrite now, he HAS gone out of his comfort zone and delivered. In 2001 he went to an overwhelmingly pro-Tito MSG crowd and gave a masterful performance.

Ol' Popkins should come to Wales to fight Calzaghe. Calzaghe is the bigger star and the better fighter, why should he go to America to possibly get robbed?
On Second thought, I wanna see Calzaghe come over to America so he can dominate Ol' Popkins and taunt him in the ring as he is whooping his ass. Ol' Popkins has no chance in hell, he will probably try to duck Calzaghe again.

I used to be a huge Hopkins fan and now I hate him more every day. He's said so much negative shit about Floyd and Calzaghe, who are the two most talented boxers out there right now, but also says that boxing is alive and well - how can it be if people are constantly bashing its two most talented performers? He says contradictory shit all the time, and his arrogance overshadows any charisma he may possess. Shit like what this topic quotes is stupid as fuck.

haha, not bad journalism.
