I'm confused.
Everyone talks like David Diaz is the WBC champion (Morales going for his fourth title), but I thought he was the interim champion only.
Apparantly Joel Casamayor is defending the WBC belt.

Can someone help?
Sonofasis: the bold answers ur ?ion about David Diaz
Casamayor won the WBC belt outright from Corrales
he then (Casamayor) tried to make a fight with I believe Popo Freitas or what not. and the WBC took offense, upgraded the Interim Champ at that time David Diaz to WBC champ
of course Diaz went on to successfully defend his WBC belt
Casamyaor is still mandatory provided he wins November 10th
and like I said above ... I've only seen Interim on boxrec after the fight occurs ... never in upcoming fights.
D: emiritus champion means that when u get that status .. ANYtime you want to you can get a title shot .. its done in the first place because you retire
perfect example Vitali Klitschko. he got knee surgery and was unable to defend vs Hasim Rahman .. so he was given "emiritus" status
that if he ever chose to come outta retirement .. Vitali would get a title shot first thing
*its what held up the Peter-Maskaev negotiations so much .. Vitali wanted to come back .. and bump the WBC mandatory Sam Peter outta his spot, and fight the man .. WBC champ Maskaev.
Well boxrec must have it wrong since it clearly states that Joel is fighting for the WBC, while Diaz' fight prior to Morales was for the interim belt.
*look at David Diaz 2nd to last most recent fight to see how he became Interim champ to begin with
it doesn't matter if its for the Interim or full title
because the fight is coming up and hasn't happened yet ... its not going to put Interim in the title
*2 examples when Mosley who is fighting Cotto in November ... it said WBC as well as WBA belts on the line
absolutly zero mention of Interim status for Mosley
and Sam Peter ... going into his title fight October 6th .. all it said on boxrec.com was WBC Heavyweight Title
in both cases ... zero mention of Interim status was brought up until after the fight.

I should have just checked this, but at least I know have another question.
What does emiritus champion mean? Floyd doesn't fight at 154 anymore, and Forrest has the belt that he vacated.
Can someone explain this? I thought it was just some label that Sulaiman gave to the dude who has won more titles than anyone else from the WBC.
other way around ... Joel Casamayor is defending the WBC Interim belt.

I noticed that too the other day while browsing and wondering what Joel was up to. Rightfully so if you ask me, since I don't see what Diaz did to earn the official WBC, since Joel beat the man who beat the man. Though this might set off a showdown between the two that may be inevitable.

Casamayor apparently was full WBC champ (getting it from Corrales).. but tried to make another title defense against someone .. and David Diaz became upgraded to full WBC champ .. leaving Casamayor with Interim status.
*its explained kinda in the Ring Mandatory thread
but basically Casa and David Diaz switched placed from Interim to Full champ.
