About a week ago I made a case that Pacquiao is ducking or afraid of fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. The majority of responses were positive, with a few Pacfans unwilling to accept the cold hard facts that Pac weighs just 4lbs less than Mayweather. Since Mayweather is a Welterweight, they said that jump would be far too big for Manny to handle.
Even though other elite fighters have jumped up even higher amounts. Shane went from 135 to 147 for Oscar. Floyd went to 154 for Oscar. Winky went to 170 for Hopkins. RJJ went to 193lbs.
They also said.......
pac's best fighting weight is 130-135.
Let's examine this case study. Pinoys, get your pencils ready because you'll need to take notes if you want to stay on track, and stick with the facts.
Height
Pacquiao- Nearly 5'7"
Diaz- 5'6"
Weight in most recent fights
Pacquiao came in at 144lbs on the evening of Saturday, October 6th against Marco Antonio Barrera in a rematch.
Juan Diaz came in at 143lbs on the evening of Saturday, October 13th against Julio Diaz in a unification bout.
1 week apart from each other, Pac-144lbs Diaz-143lbs.
Now that Diaz has beaten Julio in impressive fashion, Pac fans seem to have gone back on their original word about where Manny belongs when it comes to matters of weight.
News article from 10/11/07
Manny Pacquiao's is on a mission to capture the 135lb title from belt holder David Diaz. Pac expressed his interest to trainer Freddie Roach to prepare him for a future match-up. Bob Arum all but confirmed stating that they are eyeing Diaz, and a 2008 match-up was inevitable.
Yet Pac fans have this to say about Pac's supposed move up to 135lbs....
In all seriousness though, PAC may be coming in at 144lbs and has grown into his weight division. but his bone density can never matchup with someone who is a natural 135lber.

i think, he should clean the 130-lb division to solidify his boxing legacy. he should've been a 3 or 4 division world champ now for satisfying his fans. i think it's better to step on the brakes first for a while and get one of the alphabet belts.

These are just 2 of many examples of posts from pinoy users here about Pac moving up to 135lbs. Prior to the Diaz fight, they were all about him moving up to fight Diaz....David Diaz that is. A pushover, paper Champion who got spanked by Morales and got a bullshit hometown decision.
A move to 135lbs? To fight David Diaz for his belt? Go PAC!!!! What? Move to 135lbs to face Juan Diaz? All of a sudden Pac is incapable of making 135lbs........
This is not a hate thread. I'm simply pointing out the double standard/hypocrisy certain pinoy users are using in Pacquiao's defense now that Diaz has called out Pacquiao yet again.
I think it will look better for Juan to drop to 130lbs and spank Pacquiao in his "own" weight class anyway. Just pointing out the absurdity of certain members and how quickly they change what they say.

i dont want pacman to lose because so many filipinos worship him. pacmans not undefeatable and i think juan diaz probably has the best chance of beating him. as a fan of other boxers i usually wanna throw them in with anyone to see action packed fights but for manny its almost like im managing him. i want him to take the right fights at the right time. hes got plenty of fights left at 130, more than at 135 at this point. after that, take david diaz as a step up then take on juan diaz. pacman wont be nearly as good at 135 though.
and btw i think pacman would beat diaz at 130. i think it would be a rough fight a 135 though.
What the Fuck..
Mexicans are slowly running out of boxers in the SF division... As expected they need to pick on the lightweight to face pacquiao because all those mexicans are one by one sent into retirement... I would not be surprise if one day Mexcians would match De la Hoya against Pacquiao.. As expected from brainless and losers.
Valero and Guzman are not mexicans so they can't wait to put Diaz.. All the champions on the SF division are calling out Pac even the 135lb champion.. If Pac fights at 130 they will say Pac is afraid.. But if he go to 135 they will Say pac is afraid at MArquez,Soto and Valero..
Fucking idiot Mexicans.. Pac can't take all of them in one day as expected from a brainless Mexican.. All of the boxers have to wait until 2009 to face him If Pac still wins..
Calm down and breath man...enough with the Mexican hate. If Pacquiao stays at 130 it HAS to be to either rematch JMM or fight the winner of Guzman-Soto. I don't see too much interest in a fight against Valero unless it's just to make a big payday by staging it in China or Canada.
Other than that though, the logical move would be to jump to lightweight.
Very true. If he milks his name for what its worth granted he will no longer be considered P4P. Boxing fans are fickle remember...What have you done for me lately, not years ago.
Pacquiao is too big not to be P4P even if he loses. I can smell you have so much hate brother. Let it all out man.
Let me start off by saying Juan Diaz is one of my top favorite fighters.
But there is no fear at all coming from me. MP is a better boxer, is faster, is more experienced, has more enduranced, is stronger and bigger. MP came in at 144 ripped. 1 pound over Juan with baby fat.
After watching both the Diaz/Diaz and MP/MAB fight several times. Juan's punches seem alot harder when he grunts while throwing. Without the sound, you can see his power doesnt look so powerful, as many already knows he lacks in that department. I think MP has a fair chance to come out of this fight victorious (60/40%). He has better head movement. He has better footwork. He fights akwardly. He attacks at angles and is a southpaw. Though I like Juan alot. Juan has slightly more to overcome then MP learning how to fight effectively moving backwards.
Regardless, JMM MUST come first.
I can care less about the others to clear out (Valero Guzman Sotto). For me I think that the clock is ticking for MP. I know he plans on moving up eventually, and I believe now is the time to strike. I think he should move to lightweight as soon as possible. MP is close to plateau while Juan is getting stronger and better. He should go for David Diaz for his tune up immediately after JMM. Then go for Juan late next year if he could or very early 2009. The longer he waits the harder it gets, favoring Juan, which I wouldnt mind MP passing the torch onto as the new exciting and explosive fighter. Wins over JMM and a belt from David Diaz would be more than enough for my fill.
I think this thread exposes a lot of people who wishes Manny would eventually lose in their lifetime. If Manny cares for his profit then so be it. He's the one banging in the ring anyway. Even if Manny fights Ivan Calderon, his countryman would be behind him always. Majority of his fans (the entire population) are not boxing aficionados but the thought and prayers of him winning are all that matters to them.
I think posters here should be educated enough to single out Pacquiao fans to nuthuggers, and not generalize these people as not being afraid of a particular boxer. Its all on the business side now for Pacquiao and i think he has already given the boxing world his fair share of excitement. If he wants to milk some more then so be it.
Tell that to "Pretty Boy" Floyd and his legions. Pac knows no fear. He will take on every comer, that's guaranteed. He already said that' he'll take Diaz if the price is right.
Right... Boxing is business, anybody who can offer Pac the biggest money fight will be the first in line... With or without a belt...
Pacquiao fears Diaz. Thats why he doesn't fight him right away. Instead Pacquiao only fights ppl who knows he can beat. All of a sudden Pacquiao wants to win all the belts in his weight class, while his last fight was against a guy who didn't even own a belt. He doesn't fight Juan now because he knows Juan will cost him profit. Pacquiao is more worried about his money then he is about his pride in his own people and representing non-cowards.
you know this simply comes down to handspeed and boxing ability. The first, handspeed, is certainly held by Pacman. As far as boxing ability well at least Pacquiao can say he's been in against a few guys who were/are very good boxers and not just once he has had a chance to learn from these guys . He is far more experienced in that capacity and that is another major advantage. Diaz is just a little too slow of foot to make Manny pay the price when he gets out of balance and doesnt pack the pop if he could catch pacman. If pac brings power up with him I see a late stoppage possible otherwise he still out speeds and out hustles Diaz all night. I like Diaz but I would much rather see him against Katsidas. Talk about a slugout pressure fight.

He fought the guy who doesn't have a belt because a fight with that guy is the one that gave him the most money...
thats not agood analysis....once juan makes him go backwards its over for pac, all he has is a puncher's chance against baby bull....
Pac's speed can let him quickly get out of trouble of Juan's punches and he can quickly go back again with quick 1-2's when least expected and adding the fact that Juan doesn't think of defense while attacking. Juan's advantage in here is that he can take strong punches so it will be difficult for pac to knock him out.
Pac-Juan Diaz would be a great fight, but JMM, Soto, Valero and Guzman could be very tough challenges for Pacman in 130 for him to clean it up, a loss from any of those 4 could make a Juan Diaz fight unlikely to happen. But I'm seeing Juan Diaz winning easily against David Diaz and Casamayor.
My gut feel is that Pac will go for JMM and probably Valero's belts and possibly have a mega-fight with Juan Diaz at a catch weight, prolly at 132. But I'm sensing that if Pacquiao's team decides to move at 135, Arum will pit him against David Diaz since he is also a TR figher, isn't he?
Just wanted to to clarify my quote in your post. Apology accepted. We're cool now.
I've heard in Pacland that if Manny had his ways, he wanted to take on Valero because he took MAB's and Valero's challenge a lil personal and he didn't appreciate MAB's comment regarding Valero beating him (Pacquiao) during their post-fight presscon.
I figured that would be the guy Pacquiao would aim for first, since Barrera seemed to verbally jab him with Valero at the press confrence. Valero is getting a certain amount of hype behind him too so a win over him would help build up Pac's fight against the Soto-Guzman winner.
Pac wants to cleanup 130 first before moving up to 135, that's what people wants.
If Juan can't wait, he can move down to 130...
Exactly my point.
Pac will beat Jan Diaz.
Pac can match Juan's power, agressiveness and stamina, but Pac is faster of the two.

I wasn't spreading lies, I was pointing out how quickly certain posters changed their M.O. in regards to a move to 135lbs for Pacquiao. As I said, I don't expect him to move up right now, he can take a fight against Valero and even the Guzman-Soto winner first. Or a rematch with Marquez even though I think negotiating with Nacho is like haggling with a penny pincher.
Eventually I would like to see him move up for Diaz. If I've misquoted you then I appologize.

I agree. I'm not calling for the fight a.s.a.p or anything. In a perfect world I'd prefer Pacquiao to beat Valero and the winner of Soto-Guzman while Diaz would completely unify against David Diaz and Joel Casamayor.
Can you imagine how big the fight would be then?
