Paul Smith didnt look thattt good... he kept throwing the jab then overthrowing the right hand and clinching. same thing over and over.
whatd you guys think? and who won?
"being in an unfamiliar situation." .. eh wouldn't everyone relate to that ... I dunno how many of the 10 boxers have been on reality TV before
but I can cut Smith some slack .. because fight plan wise .. he had to do more then just win .. see below
the only way he coulda advanced was by getting a Knock out and that didn't happen
to knock a guy out just to advance .. is a pressure situation (even if its in a 5 round fight.)
I kinda thinking the same thing. Obviously a fighter knows he needs a knockout as a fight progesses, but to know that ahead of time is different. Besides how often do you spend a week living with your opponent leading up to fight. I'm not trying to make excuses for the guy, he did fight a bad fight, but I will watch him again.

The last two fights prior to Banks, Smith was under 160, so I believe he intends to campaign at MW. I'm willing to watch him fight again and just chalk this one up to being in an unfamiliar situation.
David Banks taught himself to box and has no professional training.
Its more than an unfamiliar situation.

Smith let his anger for Banks get the better of him.. Smith is WORLD CLAS material and you will see this in his next fight.
The Contender means fuck all. As long as you are undefeated its all good.
No, hes not world class material, he was in shape and had tons of time to prepare to fight DAVID BANKS, and he still got a gift.
You crazy biased.
why is smith disquailified ?
because of cuts and the fact that he won(contorversially) by the slightiest margin....i find it funny that he won with -1 points...
i like smith but theres no way he won that fight IMO....
banks got robbed IMO...i knew banks would win when i saw oe of smiths previous fights...he is way too inactive for a 5 round fight...his style is basically to walk you down and punch in mid range but his punch output is too low for it to be effective, he is very defensive too, he stops in his tracks in the middle of a combo if you punch him once and has to start walking you down again, which makes him very inconsistent....his power is the only thing that can win him rounds with this tactic only when he wobbles the other guy like he did in round 4, but all oters he didnt do shit...even though banks wasnt doing much himslef...
yeah i was going to smith but i actually had banks winning too i was trying to find rounds to give to smith but i think i could only give hi mthe fourth where he wobbled him
he looked pretty crappy. .. not impressed at all
the show made it seem so much better .. granted hard shots were landed back and forth at times
but Smith simply won the decision on agression, and because he was doing more.
just on that fight in my opinion
Smith should go to 160 ... he looked a little flubbery around the gut
he would get torn apart by anyone who can pop at Super Middle.
moving to Middleweight would be in his best interest.
because regardless of how he let Banks get to his head or not .. he damn near lost to a counter puncher with 17 pro fights
*eeking out a Split decision is kinda worrysome. look how Pepe was hyping up Paul Smith before hand "if you don't win a world title before you retire, I'll kiss you ass"
or something along those lines. i know it had World title in it .. but not sure about the ass kiss bit.
