This is the biggest Super Middleweight Title fight of all time between 2 undefeated p4p fighters and it seems like Americans don't give a shit. This is obviously a huge fight in Europe and the rest of the world, except for America. Only the TRUE American boxing fans actually give a rat's ass about this fight.
How many casual American boxing fans know who Calzaghe is ?
- probably only a few
How many casual American boxing fans know who Kessler is ?
- probably nobody
How many casual American boxing fans know who the human punching bag Arturo Gatti is ?
- everybody
this is gonna be an outstanding fight, and best of all, its not PPV!!
no, I take that back, the best of all is that these two are fighting. I am very looking forward to this fight. I wish they could be filmed training and everything, that always excites me more than anything for an upcoming fight.
Your problem is you're thinking only in terms of "casual" fans, and casual fans don't know shit. I'm an American and I can't wait for Calzaghe vs. Kessler. I think you'll find most Americans who are loyal to the sport want to see the fight..
I couldnt have said it any better.
Arturo Gatti isn't a punching bag. He might be nowadays but in his prime he was a beast. Calling him a punching bag? He would probably beat Zab Judah at this time, I would lay money on it. Gatti > Judah.
Whoa, I wouldnt go that far with that comparison. I like Gatti as much as the next guy, but I dont think he would be able to beat Judah now OR back in the day. But I agree, he isnt a human punching bag. Just a throwback.

I do...I got my boys coming over to watch it and been telling them (casual fans) that its probably the most important fight of the year.
would you rather watch two world class fighters in their prime put their titles on the line = Calzaghe v Kessler
or
two former greats who are way past their best = Jones Jr v Trinidad
i know what i'd rather see, Calzaghe v Kessler everytime
yep, boxing is blooming in europe though...
the same thing is happening with soccer.
USA couldn't give a shit about soccer, but look, this is the most popular sport in the world. so it doesn't really matter at this point, boxing will evolve in other parts of the world to the point where USA isn't even going to be a factor anymore, just like in soccer.
you do realise soccer has always been booming in europe? but it's booming across the world now to places like jamaica, japan, australia and even more southern americans places aswell. put it this way.
super bowl is nothing in terms of tv ratings comapred the the world cup. there were 1 billion people watching the woirld cup final in 2006.
as for boxing, i think that it's always been popular, but there were a lot of other sports that peopel play. now i htink soem of the athletes are trying their hand at boxing.
i just think that because europe has so many countries and so many native sports that the best athletes will likely play them.
Boxing fans know who Calzaghe is. The Lacy fight was on Showtime, Manfredo on HBO.
No he's not as well-known as gatti, but what does that mean? Gatti built his fame over time on TV
i am anxious for this fight i think its gonna be one of the best fights this year. calz and kessler are both good fighters and i am a fan of both. i got calz winnin a UD...
Super Middleweight is a tough division as far as recognition goes. I wonder what your thoughts are on Calzaghe though, just genuinely curious.
Oh and Gatti was never a beast, the dude belonged in "toughman" contests at best. I've seen amateurs better than Gatti before.
As for what Ive seen on Calzaghe. He's fast, not too predictable, throws shots in flurries, and throws them at different angles. He's also very fierce, and when he has a goal he's set to get it.
With all that said.I still think highly of this fight like a ESPN undercard.
Also for Gatti, shit, anyone that can make millions off of boxing is good to me.
What if you changed America to Mexico in your thread? Or changed it into another country, wouldn't you be asking yourself, what is the point of this thread? It's always been this way man, you fight outside the US, you get less recognition.
I know this and it is sad
This is the reason why boxing is dieing in America, it's because all of the best fighters are overseas.
Americans are just gonna have to get used to the fact that European fighters have taken over. America is not the center of the universe, this is an international sport now.
