Who doesn't love listening to an old, angry drunk man talk though? And about boxing? My favorite sport in the world? Sign me the hell up. Also, who......doesn't love....Larry's constant.......pauses? You think he's thinking up this dramatic, insightful question but then he comes out with "did he hurt you at any time in the fight?". This is about to sound very crazy because its about a commentator. How in the fuck can yall overrate Larry Merchant? He ain't that fucking good. Just because he has been there a long time that don't make him great. Yall are just used to him and don't want see somebody who has been there so long go. It would be like when Steve Tasker retired from the Bills. He was just a special teams(very good I will say) but he wasn't what got them to those Super Bowls. He was just a life long Buffalo Bill so the fans are loyal to him. Larry Merchant has some good qualities but I for one won't be sad to see him go.

HBO is a paid channel. Meaning it should have high standards. Max Kellerman is not high standards. And although sometimes you look at Larry and wonder, Say something, Say something!!!! He is still a boxing novelty. And like someone said before he is one of the voices of boxing. I personally think Kellerman Sucks. If anyone were to take Larry's job I would want Teddy Atlas in there, Larry is still #1 in my book thou. Teddy couldnt fill those shoes. Only people that come close are former champions. Id like to see Marvin Hagler be a commentator. That would be cool.

Max Kellerman is the worst analyst period in the history of sports.

Both have they're good and bad qualities. Both have favorite fighters and the let it show when commentating which I personally hate because I feel commentators are supposed to be unbiased. Merchant for instance talks about the supposed bad state that boxing is in. Yet all he does is complain when any fighter doesn't do what LARRY MERCHANT thinks they should do. What kind of shit is that? Merchant doesn't help boxing with his constant whining and complaining. If a person who is a casual fan watching a fight keeps on listening to Merchant complain and down grade the product why would that casual fan keep watching when a person with "so called" boxing knowledge is doing nothing but talking negatively about boxing? Kellerman is just to hyped sometimes and needs to calm down and not show favor so much and he'll be fine. I think Kellerman actually know more about the styles and nuiances of fighting than Larry Merchant does. I like the fact that Larry Merchant speaks how he feels but who the fuck is he to down grade a fighter for not fighting the fight HE felt they should fight. To my knowledge fighting another persons fight isn't the best way to get a win. So my answer is yes Max Kellerman can easily replace Larry Merchant. Larry Merchant isn't like Howard Cossell and shouldn't even mentioned with him to be honest. I agree. Bring back Cossell. I'll take Lampley over Merchant anyday.

Merchant's an able and experienced commentator, but Kellerman's a refreshing relative newcomer to the fight game. Merchant can sometimes lull you to sleep with his slow delivery and occasionally seem to lose his train of thought. He is so slow that on several occasions he would start a comment on what might happen during a fight, only to have it occur while he was still in mid-sentence. Kellerman, on the other hand, has that rapid-fire speech which rolls off his tongue like a James Woods.

Fuck no. Larry is a guy that I sorta like and hate at the same time, but some of the shit he says and does is just irreplaceable. Kellerman is an obnoxious whinney little bitch who probably couldnt punch his way out of a wet paper bag and doesnt know nearly as much as he pretends to. I've heard Kellerman make so many horrible picks. Merchant can be a bit obnoxious too, but hes a lot more real about it.. sorta like hear's what I think and fuck you if you don't agree.

The difference between Kellerman and Merchant boils down to 2 key issues. Charisma, and longevity. It's impossible for me not to like Larry for the same reason it's hard for me not to like Jim, I grew up listening to them. Their voices are synnonymous with boxing.
