After this fight and going after JMM, Pacman needs
to go to 135. He obviously has struggled to make weight,
and you can see it in the weigh-in pics.
Its gonna be tough in that division, but the new challenge
is what he needs. No need to prove anything more at 130.
hey there bud. Take two with JMM, yes, everybody wants to see it. A fight with valero would be good for the fans, but wont make monetary sense as ths could not be made in the u.s. A guzman fight probably wil make good ppv numbers, but not as good as when you have the mexicans rooting for the other sideHello there ol' pal!
Yes, the JMM fight seems destined for Vegas or LA.
As for Valero... I don't know buddy but I'm an optimist in this respect. Is it my desire to see the three matches that's getting the better of my assessments? Perhaps.
Anyway, I am noting with keen interest the fact that the WBA has just concluded its convention in China and from all accounts, it has been a resounding success. It seems to be that something good's abrewing in China with regard the fight game there. Or, is it still too early to say...?
Just the same, incurable optimist that I am, I'm seeing the ascent of the Chinese woman in the distaff side of the sport along with the success of the WBA confab as feet in the door. And the door can be busted wide open by something in the level of a Pacquiao fight. ("Hope springs eternal...")
The Chinese middle and upper classes--whose numbers are multiplying-- have money to spend. I don't think they'll mind shelling out fair amounts for a Pacquiao-Valero fight. Then, there are the casinos in Macao some of which are American owned (MGM, Wynn, etc.) They may come in too. On top of all that is HBO, which will be only too willing to beam the fight to the US and everywhere else.
I think there will be wads to be counted...
As for Guzman/Soto vs. Pacquiao, it may not be as big as Pacquiao-JMM, or Pacquiao's meetings with Morales and MAB, but then, I don't think there's too many of that sort down the road for Pacquiao.
Pacquiao-Guzman will, I think, generate sufficient interest. A Soto victory over Guzman can make it even more interesting as Soto is Mexican.
Neither won't be a blockbuster, but I think it will make money; provided neither Guzman nor Soto demand the heavens.
Best to the Pinoys, buddy!
I just remembered: Beijing will be hosting the Olympics next year....
My stuff from the "i don't know shit about cutting weight" people. I really don't think he's that big for 130.. unless he's been popping roids big time.
Personally, I'd rather that Pacquiao stays at 130 long enough to take on JMM, Valero, Guzman and some guy coming up from Featherweight who in time proves worthy to make the challenge. This is just so that no one can later claim having been ducked by Pacquiao.
As for his weight issues, I think it was in large part brought about by his prolonged stay outside the competitive ring which, in turn, was caused by the Golden Boy-Top Rank contractual dispute. If Pacquiao fights three or four times next year, I suspect he'd be better able to handle the job of getting to 130 for each of the appearances.
An added benefit to having a busy scheduled may be that Pacquiao shall have less time for those "extra-curricular activities" that have done him nothing good.
In 09, he can cast his eyes at Lightweight...

Thanks for the insight buddy. I thought barrera fought well and was adapting differents fight styles in the early rounds like back pedaling in one round, staying in front in another, cirlcling to the right in another and a combination of two or three in anothe.I thought he was successful in round 2 and round 3 but Pac was simply too fast and was able to find a way to connect those right hooks and straight lefts that may have remind barrera of a nightmare he suffered 4 years ago so he did what he did to survive the fight. I haven't read much of their comments because I just logged on.
Will put down two san mig light for ya buddy and a lot of pale pilsen for myself haha!!!Thanks pal! Best to all Pinoys!
Celebration, buddy? That's the way to go!
I was looking at the fight and saw less and less of the fighting techniques involved, and more and more of the psychological stakes.
The way I saw it, Manny quickly saw that Barrera did not want to engage, so, it seems that he allowed the fight to go the way it did. To me, that's a sign of a bit of maturity. Why push when you'll win anyway? Why risk when risks are not needed?
In the post fight interview, Pac also mentioned that he always kept an eye on Barrera's headbutting. So, he did not recklessly chase MAB. I suspect that it took a lot out of Manny to restrain himself. He instinctively tries to get his man in the trenches, but had to contain himself, knowing that danger lurked there.
As for MAB, he has said prior to the fight that it was his last engagement. What he did during the fight spoke volumes about his retirement plans. I don't blame him. Why get hurt unduly? Barrera provided strong hints of his mind-set during the post-fight interview quoted in the same link I provided earlier. He said Manny is too big and too strong. He claimed that he felt Pacquiao's punches more in the first fight than in the second. But what he did not say was that he felt less of Many's fists because he stayed away from them most of the time. In exchange for not landing too many punches either.
I don't knock Barrera. I believe no one should. AFter all of those great moments he provided fans through nearly two decades, I think he should get a free pass for doing what he did.
Good to see you again, buddy! Put one down the shaft for me, please? A San Mig light...
Thanks, pal!
Congratulations to ya'll!

Thanks for the link buddy. Will have little celebration in an hour. What do you think about pac's fight tonight, you think he improved technically? Damn, I don't like to take anything away from barrera but he fought a very technical fight which come short because he lacks stamina in the late rounds where he fought in spurts and could't sustain his attack. Props to both fighters for giving us a hell of a fight.Celebration, buddy? That's the way to go!

Seems that the move to Lightweight is being considered by both Pac and Roach very seriously.

Its gonna be tough in that division, but the new challenge
is what he needs. No need to prove anything more at 130.Pac told his wife after the weigh-in that this maybe his last fight at 130 because of his difficulty in making the weight. Maybe he doesn't want to do a castillo or God bless jis soul, a corrales,
Pac already said in an interview that he doesn't give a damn on those belts. Fights are important rather than the belts.. Sanction Fees are such a waste! He already jumped 6 divisions and be a 6 division champ but he don't give a damn on those trash belts anyway.
He brought his international belt to the fight as he has done in the past, which, to me indicates that he has respect for the belt. He fought for and earned it, after all.
And, I presume, he is paying sanctioning fees, in defense of his "international" title when he went up against Barrera.
I haven't learned Pacquiao actually saying he does not care about belts. It shall be out of his character to denegrate anything, much less, a sanctioning body-- which is not to say that sanctioning bodies deserve respect.
The fella is just that: he does not put down people or organizations.
If he said anything of the sort that you say he did, then I am wrong about Pacquiao's character, and would appreciate being proven so by your providing a link to that interview.
I suspect many on this site would like to see it or hear it too, straight from Pacquiao's mouth.
i hope he stays at 130... too many fights still to be made... but health is priority, whatever happens we'll support manny all the way...
I share your wish Air... The way things stand, he may be THE MAN at Jr. Light, but he does not wear a world belt. He only has the "International" strap. I'd personally wish he could tarry some and win a 130-lbs. crown before moving up. So, I hope they find some way for him to stay at 130.
I'm kinda hoping, too, that they'll find that Pacquiao's weight issues were derived from his having been out of the ring longer than usual-- what with the GBP-Arum problem still going through legal processes. I was thinking that if he is made more active-- say, 3 or 4 fights in 08-- he'll be able to trim down to fighting weight a lot better, and a bit easier, as he won't have time to gain too much poundage between fights, and thus, not much to shed in training.
But you're right, health is top priority.
Anyway, the idea of fighting at lightweight will allow him a shot at going down in history as the first Asian World Jr. Featherweight champ to ever win a world Lightweight crown. Jeff Fenech tried, but his bid was foiled by Philipp Holiday--by TKO-- in a fight for the IBF Lightweight crown.
Pacquiao shall also have the chance to gain the distinction of being the first Flyweight title holder to successfully move up to Lightweight and win a world title at the latter weight class.
He is already the first and only fighter to win BOTH THE LINEAL FLYWEIGHT AND LINEAL FEATHERWEIGHT CROWNS.
Seems that the move to Lightweight is being considered by both Pac and Roach very seriously.

It doesn't matter who he fights next.. Whoever Pacquiao will fight, Mexicans will always have an excuse who can't accept defeat and has a pride... If Pac defeats Marquez, it's still the same and then call Soto..
like xcaret.

I honestly think Pac would get killed at 135 by the first person he fights. Moving up to 130, he immediately lost to Morales and had trouble with Velazquez before he eventually TKOed him..
I gotta disagree Pac has grown into the frame and i think moving up will only help his chin.
blah blah Fake Floyd does not come to fight blah blah Pacman has the warrior spirit blah blah a true warrior always comes to KO his opponent... oops...
Yes I've seen the fight and the fight was much closer than the scorecards suggest, I just said the fight could have gone either way in my opinion and it was very close. reposnd to my entire post not just the parts where i stated that JMM was missing somewhat still a close fight not to mention jmm had points deducted in two rounds, and of the boxing sites and magazines that actually covered the fight most had John win.
Most had John winning? Who Specifically?
Because to be quite honest........you're one of the handful at most of people who saw the fight and scored it in John's favor....that I've seen.
Most are unanimous in believing there was no way John should have been given the nod. He fought a terrible, survival type fight that would have never won him the majority of the rounds in the states.
Once again, he had to win at least 5 rounds in that fight to beat Marquez by a point. I don't see any way in hell he won that many rounds because the bulk of them were identical. JMM stalking, throwing more and landing more, and John back peddling and throwing 1 and done sequences.

I saw the JMM-John fight. John was fighting not to lose.
Highway robbery in Indonesia
Right, it was a fucking joke.
Most people saw a highlight and even the most biased Indonesian highlight would show John losing the fight. Outside of maybe 2 or 3 tops flush punches every round he didn't land a damn thing compared to Marquez, and didn't throw anything. The ones that did land and catch people's attention were nothing special.
All he did was run away while he was chased. And that wasn't boxing......that was as close to running as you can get. Morad Hakkar style.

Are you out of your mind? He had a real hard time with Amonsot, whom Pac quiao wouldn't even use as a sparring partner because he's too weak. Pac would KO Katsidis before round six.
Pacquiao is very small compared to kadsidis and kadsidis's punches would be more effective to pacquiao becuase of the move up in weight. plus, pacquiao was knocked out twice early in his carrer. i understand that it was early in his carrer but that still shows that he is vunerable to be hit. you dont want to move in weight in get hit regularly by one of if not the hardest hitter in the division. Pac should stay at 130. besides David Diaz, i cant see him beating any of the lightweight champs. :boxing:
