I hate the phrase "has-been" because it has such a negative connotation to it. But having said that no, he isn't what he once was and with each fight he is only going to decline.
Roy Jones is 'in between'. He does have a future, but obviously not as bright as when he was 25, 28, or even 35. However, he DID beat two top ten fighters (in their weight-class) in his last 2 bouts. Obviously Roy is only going to get older so his future is limited...but he still might have enough skills left (after stopping Tito) to get one last fight vs an elite guy (Winky, Kessler, Joe, Hopkins, Pavlik, Taylor) and win. It's possible.
Not nearly as garaunteed as 5 years ago though. Roy would clean these clowns 5 years ago.
Roy Jones needs to forget those guys and fight Glen Johson again. Glen knocked him out and he is still the most ducked fighter and light-heavy. Roy needs to step and fight him again and avenge that loss. As far as Tarver, they already had 3 fights and Roy lost the triology so I don't see that fight happening again although you never know. But if Roy beats Glen Johson, at least he will retire having beaten every fighter he has ever faced.
i disagree to some extent.. i mean.. hes still got it man.. the speed and combos.. potshots and all that.. i just dont think any1 is interested him anymore. i am tho..
i miss watching him on HBO wen i was a kid just killing it..
we need a dominant fighter like him again in the sport.. i wish he actually fought in the last tarver right.. the 5th round was the only round he fought and didnt run and cover up. why didnt he FIGHT? i dont know..
Simple, he was Punch-shy. After getting knocked out by Tarver it got to him. If you look at the fight against Glen Johnson, he wasn't doing anything in that fight and lost almost every round because he was affraid of commiting with his punches in fear of getting caught with something. Unfortunately he did get caught later on.
Against Tarver in the third fight, it was the same thing. He had a couple good rounds where he showed flashed of his greatness but he just didn't do enough of it. I still hold it against him for playing to the crowd showboating even though he was losing. It's one thing to showboat while you're winning.
It was a triology and unstead of responding to the challenge like Ali did in the Thilla in Manilla he went out like a bitch just being happy to go 12 rounds with Tarver. He also made excuses that he lost because of his father.
Been a fan of his and still am but I will hold that fight against him forever.
sadly he is a hasbeen :(
only if we would've retired after he beat ruiz
True that. And it would have left alot of people to speculate on how great he was. People would consider it a early exit beating a heavyweight title holder but not a True champion. Still that would have been the smartest decision.....but again not everybody is as smart as Lennox Lewis to call it quits.
Roy's pride got in his way. After building all that muscle to move up to heavyweight....it was a mistake to go back down to light-heavy. But Tarver did his thing...taunting Roy and Roy fell for it....nothing else to it.
It would have been better had he gotten knocked out by a heavyweight after beating Ruiz then to lose at light-heavy where he was the Undisputed Champ for a long time collecting every belt you can think of.
But still he is gonna go down as one of the All-time greats.

He's about 40 percent of his prime right now, but that 40 percent of Roy is still enough to beat most LH's out there.

hasbeen for me to.Especially after he got knocked out 2x at the end of his career. I cant believe him and hopkins never had that match. I think him and hopkins could still do that and sell some tickets.
