Seen Jack's comments on the matter on the BoxingScene video there.
Personally I think that's ridiculously bad form. Manny should have congratulated him. I saw him congratulate Kelly immediatley after, but it's crap the way he's shunned Kelly's trainer. It's almost snobbish, looking down on him, because he's not as succesful or renowned trainer as he is.
Give the man his respect.
its simple really either Steward was just in shock and combined with his deceptively old age he had one of those old people moments or Steward didnt congratulate Lowe because in his mind that would have been conceding he also lost as opposed to Taylor bearing the weight of the loss squarely on his shoulders. I hope it was just a moment but im a bit of a pessimist so Im leaning towards the latter. No Class!
Yeah what a joke. That's what I dont respect about Steward. He's been living on Haerns for a while. He really only takes up established fighters or champions. I havent seen him mold a guy like a piece of clay in a while. Pavlik's trainer is good, IMO. Most of the unheralded guys are. They just havent got that one break.
Steward's gotten to the point that he doesn't need to bring a fighter up from scratch to be effective, a little tweak here and there can take a fighter a long way. However, he does have Andy Lee and Jonathan Banks, both guys have champion potential (MW and CW respectively). True, he does seem like he's preying (as in prey, not pray) on other trainers' hard work, but it is a two street. It SEEMS like its worked for Cintron and Klitschko recenty, JT not so much, and he does have a hell of a resume so guys will be tempted.
How much further can Loew take Pavlik? He just got him the undisputed middleweight title. Stick to the Devil you know, instead of going with a devil you don't
Well, in terms of completeness of the package and ability to defend against a wide range of opposition, Pavlik still has room to improve. He is good and I've been a fan since the Zertuche fight, but he's young and his game still has a ways to go.

i dont see a reason why Pavlik should switch trainers....sure Loew's advice to Pavlik during the fight was simplistic, but he has his fighter coming in prepared and ready to fight night in, night out and his record indicates that...plus, although Pavlik only has that 1-2 going for him, its still getting the job done...its like the pitcher who has the unhittable fastball: you know its coming, but its not like you have an answer for it....
I like Steward as a trainer and analyst but it showed a certain lack of class not to congratulate Loew.
I do worry a bit about how far Loew can take Pavlik though. His game plans so far have been good albeit simple. Listening to him in the corner kind of reminded me of listening to Jack Mosley back in the early days of him training Shane. Very straightforward advice that didn't really seem too observant about what was going on in the ring. I don't think Pavlik will ever leave his trainer though, he just seems too loyal. It will probably be up to Loew to either step aside or bring in someone else to help for the good of Pavlik.
"kelly, go throw the jab and the straight right hand"
Brilliant stuff.
Isn't that kind of like telling Winky Wright to "cover up and jab".
sure
Manny is a good trainer, i just dont think kelly will be as comfortable. The ultimate training solution for Pavlik would be manny training the boxing part, and Lowe training the strength and conditioning.
Looks to me that Steward is trying to court Pavlik to train with him.
...I was telling the guys that I watched the fight with the same exact thing. Steward wants a piece of Pavlik. I don't think they will change but stranger things have happened. I always knew that Steward wanted a piece of Wlad and I figured he would definitely end up training him one day.
As much as I respect Steward, Taylor needs to switch trainers. Taylor has regressed so badly that I don't think he can ever recover and get back on the proper course again. It's sad because Taylor has so much athletic ability but his resources have been so badly squandered.
he is a good trainer but pavlik needs to impreve not stay the same way with his trainer.....after having a few fights I think pavlik should hire at least someone else for techniques it doesn't have to be emmanuel but just someone else to work in his corner adn stay with his trainer
Right on.
This might seem farfetched but from where Kelly is now (one-two puncher) is somewhat similar to Manny Pac (jab, jab, left). Under Freddie Roach's guidance Manny has been fighting like a complete fighter and has more weapons now.
I think it would take another trainer to pull that out of Kelly. And honestly, Steward is a perfect choice. Why? Because Steward loves to work with taller, bigger fighters and he could take Kelly to the next level.

Another racist element added to the fight.
What was racist about the thread topic? He DIDNT congratulate him. Manny did go over and congratulate Pavlik though. Stop being so racially sensitive!

I think so too but pavlik will never leave his trainer. hes undefeated with him so far so why leave.
