Pavlik wasn`t seriously hurt but he didn`t have any legs when Taylor floored him. If Taylor would have been more patient and picked his punches better, he would have beaten Pavlik. I think a more patient fighter KO's Pavlik early.
He has always been about the same, think highest he fought was 166. I personally think hes just put on more muscle. And making weight is directly related to his problem with stamina. The guy didnt look like he had any fat on his body. I dont really think being that cut up is good for your endurance. He should move up to super middleweight or maybe even light heavyweight.
The punches from Pavlik didnt affect Taylor at all in the early rounds. But he showed signs of being gassed out a bit because he wasnt throwing as many hard shots, he was just jabbing for the most part. I think thats what got him knocked out.
I think if Taylor placed his punches better he would have put him out. Or made the ref stop it. He just swung wildly. He should have thrown some measurement punches out to get his distance. All it would have took is about 4 huge punches unanswered and it would have been over.

No, I dont think anyone else could have dropped Pavlik like that, nevermind finished him.
Maybe I need to watch the fight again, but I saw Taylor going ape shit on Pavlik, and trying to take him out. If he hadnt have thrown a lot of punches, we'd be hearing things like "he stopped throwing" "If only Jermain had tried to finish him!" Same shit they said about Judah vs. Cotto.
Pavlik survived, and Taylor didn't. Simple as that.
Your logic is flawed because IT WAS THE SECOND ROUND. Kelly wasn't tired and he had plenty of energy to recover quickly. Trust me it is much more difficult to get up from that shot in the 10th, when you are fatigued, than in the second when you can recover quickly and get your legs back.
i think he also did recover quickly and prob would have been knocked out in the tenth. but there was a good 1:20 secs where he was a sitting duck, and taylor should have been able to perform a onslaught that would have sent him out for good.
I also did not understand why taylor did not finish pavlik. i mean he had him on rubbery legs and refused to jump on him. looked like he got real tired but id thought he was in top shape. i think that taylor was too hyper at the beginning of the fight and thats what hurt him later on. that and not blocking pavliks right hand enough. hopefully taylor will learn from his mistakes and do better in the rematch.
I dont think Pavlik was that hurt, but his chin is a little suspect.
Taylor did not follow up his jab with his right hand. He should have thrown that right more often. Pavlik did throw that right, a good one-two and it produced great results.
For Taylor not to finish his man when he had him like that in the second round is pathetic, i could understand if he had him hurt in the 10th and couldn't finish him because of fatigue, but it was the second round!. pavlik was almost out on his feet and there was a minute left, he wasnt ducking punches at all and was just holding on. the worst part was taylor was holding him back. Taylor is better than pavlik and most fighters but for some reason he doesnt have the same stamina.

Well consider the fact that he fought Hopkins twice...Winky Wright...Ouma and Spinks....
You're not knocking Hopkins or Winky out...period...Ouma, I will say that fight probably should not have lasted with the way Taylor was landing...vs Spinks, Taylor doesn't have Judah speed as a MW (though he is fast as a MW) and Spinks was there to duck, slip, move and box vs a guy who is technically flawed...
My only point is that it isn't easy for a young and technically flawed fighter like Taylor to look spectacular in his previous 5 fights considering the opposition
oh im not holding it against Taylor, but its true that he is an inexperienced finisher. Whereas Pavlik has to finish his man off nearly every fight
Taylor let it all hang out, balls to the wall, take you with me type of assault he unleashed and that was his best chance to knock a guy like Pavlik out. Pavlik let himself get caught by that straight right hand and as you saw the fight progress after the 2nd he settled down and didn't get caught with anything stupid again.
I don't think many other fighters in the middleweight division are capable of that type of blitz that Taylor let loose and still couldn't finish Pavlik off with. Opponents are gonna see this and they are going to get discouraged. They're gonna think "damn, a young athletic guy like Taylor let it all hang out and couldn't finish this mofo off, that is not kool". Taylor came in from the onset and his objective was clearly stated that he was looking for a fight, but his best was not enough to get the job done. Only way Pavlik loses in my opinion any time soon is if he gets out-boxed.
I totally disagree with that second part. Trust me noone sees discouragement when they see a guy get knocked down;. It shows weakness that anyone that ever fights Kelly will try to expose. I put money on it his power bails him out of almost any bad situation, forget a mule that guy hits like a truck.
Personally I say if he used a damn uppercut instead of those wide blows there would be hundreds of threads about Taylor being the truth becaus he ko'd Pavlik in 2 rounds.

It was actually Taylor's looping left left hook that I thought was his his most effective punch. Pavlik would close in on the attack and he'd be blind to it and get hit. When they were squared off against each other in the center of the ring Pavlik's jab was the more effective and he was generally getting the better, doing the more damage with his agression, harder punches, straighter punches working off the jab.
I think that's how Taylor initially got him in troulbe in the second round.
I thought the hook he landed was a good solid formed one. It was when Pavlik was swinging. And Jermaine's came under Pavlik's and caught him flush attemt. Not sure gonna have to rewatch it.
That's his main porblem a aheady fighter is not going to get hit a majority of the time by looping punches. That's why Mayorga had no shot against Oscar.

I think so. Taylor exploded on Pavlik & landed that vicious combo that nearly finished him. Taylor had him in serious trouble & should've mixed his shots up instead of looping the right hand. Like what was said the uppercut in close would've been the perfect punch to split Pavliks gloves or maybe some body work to bring the hands down a bit to set up a some punches upstairs.

Yes Jermaine acted as if he was a KO virgin. He had the fight in the bag. That's the key difference between the two. Pavlik put together a string of good punches. It was chaotic it was short and concise. A jab and a staright right. Once he wobbled Jermaine he landed two uppercuts and it was good night.
Jermain began to loop shots when he saw the Pavlik was hurt. He basically pushed him down for the koncokdown. Even theough the flurry did the damgae. Jermaine has to imporve his for. He is so flawed when it comes to throwing hooks it's unbelieveable.

i see kelly ko'ing winky , but not hopkins , i just tought about the second moslet fight , winky did a little fish dance there.
