First off I want to congratulate Kelly Pavlik on a tremendous display of heart and will last night in overcoming the knockdown and rallying back to become the new Middleweight Champion of the world.
The Judges Scorecards
What fight were these guys watching? 2 of the 3 judges had Taylor up 3 points prior to the knockout, and the other judge had Taylor up 4. That means you'd have to think that Taylor won 4 of the 6 completed rounds, with an extra point for the knockdown. What I saw last night was a very close, and even fight unfolding.
I'm a huge Pavlik fan but I won't bullshit you and say Pavlik won every round except for the knockdown round, but Taylor certainly wasn't winning them all either. After the fight Taylor admitted that he thought he was losing, regardless of the judges cards. What I saw was a lot of quick, flashy punches from Taylor, most of which landing on Pavlik's guard.
What I saw from Pavlik was what I always expect from him, a walking forward fighter, who uses his jab to set up the right hand. Taylor was eating a lot of leather in the first 3 rounds.
What were your thoughts on the judges' scorecards at the time of the stoppage? I had Taylor up 1 point. I can't possibly see him up any more than 2 points.
Also, a few side notes.
1.) I'm never one to brag but in the weeks leading up to this fight I saw Pavlik's name being dragged through the mud constantly here. People talked shit on everything from his power, to his overall skill level, to his resume. I even got called a racist by another user for picking a white guy to beat a black guy.
So this is just a quick "fuck you" to anybody who went out of their way to degrade Pavlik before the fight.
2.) It's interesting to see so many "Pavlik fans" coming out of the woodwork in the last 24 hours. There are very few serious Pavlik supporters around here, myself, kball15, and oldgfringo being some key figures in supporting Pavlik here for the last few months.
It's good to see Kelly finally get his recognition and respect but I can't help but wonder where these guys were 6 months ago, and where they'll be 6 months from now.
Check the punch stats for the first round. You'll see that Pavlik threw more, and landed at a higher percentage
a) those stats are usually wrong.
b) statistics don't tell the story.
Taylor's shots were landing clean, flush and knocking seven shades of shit out of Pavlik.
I'm amazed people were scoring this fight for Pavlik. Absolutely amazed. Only slightly more amazing is that the american judges scored it pretty much correctly.

you know what's going on,,, HB"HO" no fuckin way could anyone who knows boxing score that fight in that manner. Let me see I gave Pavlik round 1, round 3, round 4 and round 6. All the judges could see tho was a possible HBO superfight(CalzaghevsTaylor) slipping out the backdoor and they were trying like hell to keep that from happening!
I had 58-55 to Taylor but Pavlik was gathering momentum. Just when I though Taylor was about to give the performance of his career...
i had it the same, 58-55 for JT thru 6
Pavlik clearly won the first round? WTF?!
All the quality work until the final 30 seconds of the fight was done by Taylor. Pavlik looked totally one-dimensional and Taylor looked to have him handled quite comfortably. Obviously one got through though and Taylor didn't have the heart to continue whereas Pavlik did. Pavlik got lucky.
And this coming from someone who can't stand Taylor and was delighted with Pavlik getting the win. Mind you I watched the fight sober and the morning after.

WOW!!!!
I don't know if you guys saw this, I was watching the last scene of the fight and when Talyor was going down, Smoger knees him in the face.
Watch it again...
i am really happy that Kelly won the fight, i was rooting for him all the way...
when i saw the fight live, i had Kelly winning by 1 point on the score card. after every big major fight, i watch it again without the sound. when i reviewed the fight(twice)today and i scored the fight 58-55 Taylor... i gave Taylor rounds 1,2,3 & 5; Pavlik 4 & 6.
pls don't give me crap for this post. imo, judges were right on this one.
I had Taylor up by 3 points before the knockout, Pavlik just kept getting beaten to the punch, and didnt seem to know how to handle to quick combinations Taylor was throwing.

Post-fight interview:
Taylor said he felt that he was losing the fight.
Pavlik said he felt that he was winning the fight.
Whoever had Taylor ahead may want to take that shit into account.
Yeah I hate to accuse anyone of fixing a sport. But obviously they were giving anything close to the champ.
It was close but I think maybe it was either Kelly up by a point or maybe even. Jermaine was looping wild shots that caught mostly glove. He landed his jab well but he didn't use it nearly as much to set up his punches. In my opinion he had poor punch selection. All the power attempts really fucked his stamina up a lot earlier than it should have. If he was jabbing and moving he coud have conserved more energy and taken less of a beating.
I for one predicted Kelly would win via KO somewhere before the 9th round. I didn't jump on hi sbandwagon either. I looked at several factors and realized that his power would be the mian factor in this fight.

I had Taylor ahead by one point going into the round. I can see 2 points up, 3 and 4 seem to be a stretch, but the way they were fighting, the scoring of rounds was just going to be some trivia after one of the body's was lifted from the canvas...
The judges were obviously trying to fix the fight in Taylor's favour in case it went to Decision. I thought Pavlik was winning the fight because he was outjabbing Taylor, landing stiff right hands and backing him up.

Taylor was probably landing more harder shots + the shots that were blocked by Pavlik, its harder to see when you are ringside judge, and they tend to favor the champion if the round is close, and some of them weren't complete blow outs, for example round 1.
