I mean, when has Pavlik ever gotten a man in trouble, and NOT stopped him???
Zertuche and Miranda were saved by the bell... but they didnt last much longer anyway.
Everybody else he wears out, and as soon as he lands that first big shot it is OVER. Theres no coming back against Kelly Pavlik, i think he is THE best finisher in the sport
Long winded post. I had the pleasure of reading that shit. Good points, I dont agree with some of them but then again its your opinion.
First of all, it wasn't the fault of Taylor that he lost the bout. He was brought into Pavlik's world. We knew before the bout that Taylor didn't have great stamina and only an average chin. We knew this why? 1. His legs buckled a few times even against the Winkster and 2. He faded late against Hopkins x 2 and was laying on the ropes against Winky after about 4 rounds.
For once he wasn't facing a guy smaller then him. He was facing a guy who was taller then him and brought CONSISTENT pressure. Not like Hopkins who was so cautious that he was only throwing about 15 punches for the first 6 rounds. Hopkins pretty much dictated the pace so Taylor didn't have to worry about counterpunching at all.
Jermain was surprised at how far away Kelly could hit him. Kelly's got the longest right hand in the business. It doesnt' look smooth or spectacular but it works.
And in regards to the bolded. That was really his only shot. I think he could sustain a pace like that if they fought at 168. But at 160 he fights in spurts. He cuts too much weight and I think he would be better suited for 168. But there is too much competition up there and he would get beat handily, IMO. Manny is a good advisor.
you made some very good points, opened my eyes on few things too, I overlooked the stamina problem Taylor has and that was probably why he couldn't maintain the offense/defense, I saw him a little too tense from the jump but didn't think nothing of it, knocking down Pavlik probably clouded my vision for a second, it looked as if Taylor had it locked but he DID waste a lot of energy just being overly energetic, maybe THAT was the fault. I saw Kelly landing a lot of overhand crosses on Taylors grill for a lot of the fight and Taylor just kept dropping that hand and Kelly just kept landing that cross, maybe it just took it's toll.. thats a very respectable and possible reason. I just feel Taylor had the tools to pull it off had he not stood in those corners, despite getting hit in the ring he didn't get obliterated until he posted up in those corners and started going to war, against Kelly thats like gift wrapping the belts for him because you are going to GUARANTEED lose and Taylor did exactly that..
Taylor DOES run out of gas though, thats something I completely overlooked and it may have played a big part but as I can remember I saw Taylor going IN on Kelly at one point, straight bopping him and had him pretty much done, he expended too much energy early on so in later times when he could have punched he found himself either holding, moving or trapped. I feel what you said about stepping into Kelly's world, Kelly fight the whole 3 minutes of every round which is more than what I could say for Taylor's last 5 opponents so maybe he just encountered something he's never faced yet at this stage, I just think Taylor could have done it had it not been for those crippling, dazing shots he took in those corners and those overhand crosses that seemed to always land when Taylor dropped his defending hand pulling back, he could have prevented that had he just kept it in the middle of the ring and kept those hands up, in a relaxed form and great movement Taylor could have out done Pavlik..
I realized though I am taking too much away from Pavlik, I just can't help but feel like Taylor had the fight in his hands but if Taylor folded that is NO fault of Pavlik, he went in and fought his fight and even though in a rematch my opinion wont change for the meantime he beat JT and thats something that can NEVER be taken away from him regardless of why, he went threw his own tests that he had to overcome in order to win so if Taylor couldn't overcome his tests Pavlik shouldn't be discredited for it, 100% respect to Pavlik for a job well done, he dethroned the Champion and thats always a great accomplishment, I may feel like Taylor would have won this fight if it wasn't for such and such reason and I may feel like he would win a rematch but as for RIGHT NOW, as for this very second Kelly Pavlik is the new Undisputed, Undefeated Middleweight Champion of the world and he deserves ALL respect.. 100
here we go now "Kelly is the best finisher", "Kelly can't be beat", "no point in a rematch, Kelly gonna kill him", "Kelly is this, Kelly is that" when to many many many of you who saw Kelly before Kelly wasn't shit.. I picked Taylor to win and he didn't let me down, he did to an extent but everyone makes mistakes and his was allowing Kelly to brawl with him, land punches that if he would have just fought defensively and punched him while he could the outcome would've been different, once Taylor didn't knock him out in that 2nd round he should have boxed him so much Kelly should've felt trapped in the ring, Taylor showed his greatness and won A LOT of those 1st 6 rounds, he was boxing effectively he just allowed himself to be hit wayyyyy more than he should've..
with the experience of being in front of Kelly and already winning the rounds against him Taylor should have no problem coming back especially at a higher weight class and fucking Kelly up for 12 rounds, if I was him I would do it at Middleweight to take back what one of my mistakes cost me, my Middleweight belts but if we on some Super Middle shit then fuck it, I respect Kelly and am happy for him but Taylor had his ass, the only reason Taylor even got hit like that was because he stood up against that corner and didn't give Kelly no real movement, just a jab in the face and an occasional bobbing of his head WHICH (contraire to all those hating on Emmanuel Steward) his trainer told him to stop doing, get out of those corners and don't let him bang on you like that because he will eventually get you and thats exactly what happened, Kelly was fighting the same fight from round 1 to round 7 but Taylor wasn't, had he stuck to his plan he would have out maneuvered Kelly, Kelly never would have hurt him so bad because he wouldn't have found those angles that let him rock Taylors skull, Kelly comes forward but Jermain fights great going backwards, it was the perfect fight for Jermain accept he made errors that brought him down a notch and he was hit in ways he didn't allow himself to be hit before..
this is why I tell all you on here who like to fights like yesterday, of course you want to see fights like that, of course you want to see a bloody bang out but it cost Taylor his belts, allowing Pavlik in those corners and exchanging punch after punch with him made it so Pavlik was more effective than he should have been, Taylor wasn't calm at all and expending mad energy just in overall movement in the first few rounds, he used his jab he just didn't use his head, had he stuck to his game plan of countering and making Kelly pay, making himself hard to hit and fending off with his jab he would have had a easy time, he was winning the fight and would have continued, he showed heart in a situation where skills were called for, HIS mistakes cost him the belts..
he showed early on he could handle Kellys fight game, he showed by moving and not being an easy target that he could shake off any hard blow Kelly lands, Kelly didn't present to him an unbeatable style and Taylor had the tools to overcome it but he didn't respond, he allowed exchanges and took aswell as gave unnecessary punches when all he should have done was box, box, punch, punch, punch, box, box, box, box, box, box, box, punch, box, box, box etc.. boxing being the main key, he tried to maintain his skills as much as he could but the environment and the pressure became too much and that was his error, had he stuck to his game plan, maintained his composure and boxed his way out of those corners he could have escaped those instances where Kelly landed the deciding blows but by him not doing that he allowed Kelly to come in and hurt him, it was his mistakes that served as the bridge over tha gap Keeping Kelly away from landing those bone shattering blows and the fact that Taylor took those punches speaks volumes of his heart but it cost him the fight, this fight is perfect for those who like "Toe-To-Toe", it cost an undefeated, undisputed champion of the world to lose everything he fought so long and hard for..
to wrap this all up I will say Kelly Pavlik is a gentleman, he has a hard to beat style and anyone ELSE would've been out classed from the opening bell, the only guy who had the tools to beat him didn't use them, Kelly will be a great champion and I look forward to seeing him fight again but I can't help but feel all fucked up inside for Taylor, when I pick a fighter I pick everything about them so when I see them lose in such a devastating way I feel a part of me lost, in a rematch I pick Taylor again because ANYONE and I do mean ANYONE can come in and knock you out in a fight where they was losing but Taylor won the boxing match, he got caught with a good shot and folded but he won the hand to hand combat, he doesn't have to change NOTHING up on how he fights he just needs to move more and knowing Taylor I think thats something he can focus himself to do, once again Kelly Pavlik is a GREAT fighter, I respect him fully and congradulate him 100%, it hurted me when I saw him hurt Taylor but I'm a gentleman in my own right and I can admit when someone beat my guy, it's not a good feeling but I'm happy for Pavlik, I just hope that he's a real man and gives Taylor the oppurtunity that was given to him, I think Taylor will outbox him next time regardless of weight because all he has to do is use his ring generalship and not post up and exchange, he should pull of a Mayweather and take a knee if ever he's hurt in a rematch and continue respectively and not go out in a blaze like Rambo or someshit because even if you win you lose, you win the fight but you lose your health taking punches like that.. congradulations Kelly Pavlik, the new Undisputed Middleweight Champion of the world, 32-0, 29 KO's against the best of his class, a true warrior.. 100
he didnt need to knock him out . he won every round lmfao.
right... but u called him a great finisher... when he never finished Lacy off so...
Im not saying hes not a great fighter cause he is, but hes not as good a finisher as Pavlik
Pavlik surely has very good finishing skills.
Look what Taylor did when he had Pavlik hurt. Throw stupid wild punches and get tied up.
Look what Pavlik did when he had Taylor hurt, stayed patient and mixed in some good straight shots as well as uppercuts.
That was the differnece in the fight to me, Pavlik's finishing skills are mch better than Taylor's. Had Taylor posessed better finishing skills he would have ended it in the second, he had plenty of time.
Kball, how did Quintana look last night? You were there right?
He might be the best finisher. Cotto and Wlad come to mind. You don't really think Wlad though because he doesn't have to throw a whole bunch he just has to land and it could be over.
I agree,Cotto 2nd,once Kelly has u hurt he finishes u off brutally,i cant see anyone lasting long once Pavlik has them hurt,he is the best finisher in the sport today, and the most devastating puncher,i couldent beleave Taylor got finished the way he did,i didnt imagine it like that,he was the Undisputed Middleweight champ
You should also being giving taylor some props. He is the first guy to seriously hurt Pavlik. Miranda may have welted up Pavlik with his hard shots, but Taylor landed some Nasty hard shots that were obviously harder then Mirandas. Pavliks toughest fight so far has to be against Taylor. Both men deserve respect
I give Taylor all the credit in the world, i take nothing away from him. The class he showed after the fight made me into a fan. A great guy as well as a fighter
Guys like Daniel Ponce DeLeon, and Pac are good finishers as well, but Pavlik seems to put people away once he gets them hurt. He's definitely one of the best in the sport at this moment.
How is that taking it to far? Name one that's better right now.
yea im not saying he's the best ever or anything like that, but in the game today nobody is as good as Pavlik.
Once your hurt they may as well call the fight right there, cause Pavlik WILL end it
