After viewing this most recent fight , I'm under the impression that Hopkins would definitely be able to box Pavlik to a U.D.. Firstly, keeping in mind Hopkins-Taylor 1 also, even at this stage in his career I'd say that he has a much better chin than Taylor does. He's also much better at avoiding straight right hands and avoiding pressure. Pavlik is very easy to hit and Hopkins' little lead right should hit its mark every time, right before he dips out to mix it up. But I still wonder how Hopkins would be able to take a clean shot from someone like Pavlik, even though he's been in there with a true light heavyweight in Tarver, he didn't get hit too much..
Hopkins did not beat Winky, JT beat Winky. This I say even as Hopkins had to resort to holding, elbowing, rabbit-punching and low-blowing Winky all night long.
You can't have your cake and eat it too, as it exposes your bias. If Hopkins didn't beat Winky but Jermain did, then Hopkins beat Jermain. Either that, or we simply go by the official scorecards, because anything else is subjective..
Jermaine won both those fights. You're just another Bernard Hopkins nuthugger.
Styles make fights bro, I thought this was obvious, seeing as how Hopkins beat Winky while Taylor couldn't. I'd also doubt that Taylor could beat Tarver (especially like that), but that's another debate.
I dunno much but I picked Pavlik to beat Taylor while you chose wrong smart guy.
Jermaine Taylor beat Bernard Hopkins twice. Some people said that Winky Wright beat Bernard. Everybody says that Bernard is the dirtiest fighter in the sport.
If a nervous tentative boxer with no chin like JT rendered Bernard ineffective in the first eight rounds, how much more a Kelly Pavlik who is MORE POWERFUL, HAS A BETTER CHIN and HEART and ALL THE CONFIDENCE in the world?
First off I bet on Pavlik to win... BUT I would have been happy losing...
And though i'm happy Jermain won Both of those fights in the books you need to Go watch that first/second fight again, and choose which one jermain actually won for yourself.
LIKE I said don't say much if you don't know what your talking about.
It obvious he does just as obvious as that Black Africans sailed to America before anybody else. And that that ancient Egyptians were Black.
Someone tell the ignorant Celt/Brit to learn how to spell or form a coherent sentence first before he tries to address me in a boxing forum with his useless appeals to crackpot Eurocentrism? Thank you.. :)
No, even if Bernard brought in Nady in there to help him like he did in the Taylor fight, he would'nt last long with Pavlik.
Why doncha kids ask whom Taylor picks in a Hop-Pav fight? He'd tell you "Man, Nard isnt gonna last a round with Kelly. Too strong."
You dont know much or haven't been boxing long.. one or the other.
Do you even know what it would take to beat hopkins?
Even at 40+ he's a huge threat... Don't Downplay his skills.
Pavlik would have a VERY tough night. Good Fight I think.
....Hopkins only wins if his hugging, holding, running, and dirty bullshit is allowed. It depends on the ref and if they let him get away with that garbage. If I were Pavlik I wouldn't fight Hopkins. Bernard is interested in being cautios and winning by hook or crook. Pavlik is an exciting fighter and he doesn't need Hopkins or his bullshit. Fuck Hopkins!! Kelly is an exciting fighter who actually gets in the ring to fight.
Even at this stage of Hopkins career you can't count him out. All of Pavlik's opponents have stood in front of him. No one has tried to give him angles & when's the last time Pavlik fought a pure boxer or mover? Let's not get overboard with his win (which was a good win) because Pavliks footwork isn't that good. And with a vet like Hopkins who'd counter punch & punch him at angles he's never had to face it would be a tough fight. Not to mention he's a damn rough fighter on the inside as well.
My ultimate boxing dream is to see a guy like Pavlik land a right hand to the jaw of ol' snaggle-tooth, Bore-nard Slopkins and put him to sleep....just to shut his blabbing mouth the hell up for a few minutes, if anything.
Well I guess You'll be having a period of insomnia... It never had a chance.
Well UNLESS HOPKINS fights pass 45 and then your chances get better.

I love taylor but I picked Pavlik to knock him out........
And honestly I'd have to say that HOPKINS would beat PAVLIK... Thats if they fight soon enough... because the older he gets the harder it would be to pull off.
HOPKINS MIGHT ACTUALLY CAMPAIGN FOR THIS FIGHT.
I see.. People think Hopkins doesn't have the power..
On a predictable stationary target Hopkins could wear down Pavlik quickly and effectively. I predict a Hopkins KO through attrition early to mid.
Hopkins is economic. Don't be fooled. The guy can PUNCH.
He rarely loads up - but when he does he can take guys out with a few heavy shots. Hopkins is not a one punch KO artist.
There is no doubt.
But he is fully capable of taking out the right opponent.

Hopkins would win by KO in the early to mid rounds.
EASY fight for Bernard Hopkins.
BTW, Hopkins will want this fight IMO.
One of the problems with out-boxing Pavlik is the fact that Pavlik works from the outside behind a BOMB of a jab.
A puncher with a chin, and heart, that works behind a jab, and has a very high output is a very dangerous man.
Hopkins is effective because he gets people to stop punching by selling them feints.
You are not going to feint Pavlik into not punching, because his reaction is to punch more.
A younger Hopkins with a higher output probably could have decisioned Pavlik pretty easily, but the Hopkins of today is just too inactive to do anything other than survive the fight.
Ditto... IN theory, Hopkins could give Pavlik trouble, but one cannot subscribe to theory regarding a 43 year old boxer. In all likelihood, Hopkins would end up just hanging on for the final bell. The worst outcome is that Hopkins gets seriously injured.
Well I'm judging their countering abilities based on their recent fights.
Hopkins has right hand counter over the top that's about it, Jermain combos your head off. And Hopkin's power is starting to fade.. Pavlik makes you work, at this point I don't see Hopkins making it to round 12.
Jermain combos your gloves off.
bhop is just too slick but pavlick hits harder than you think and it goes rds after rds until you'll get slowed a beaten up. this guy never gets tired and hits harder as the rounds gets longer.
