between the insane mainstream face time he is getting on dancing with the stars, and the fact that they are doing yet ANOTHER 24/7 HBO series for the fight with hatton...
who thinks this ppv in december could do 1,000,000+ buys between the US and the UK? i think the potential is pretty huge.
a lot of casual fans who were introduced to floyd via "the world awaits" will be coming back for certain, considering anytime its one guy's 0 against another's it always feels like your watching history in the making. and hatton has the UK on lock- and i think it's safe to say a lot of those folks didnt give a damn about (much less buy) mayweather and oscars showdown. a lot of things seem to be perfectly in place for this to catapult these 2 guys into the stratosphere.
and if by some chance they end up being an awesome match up- could this not end up being the kind of rematch/trilogy provoking thing that makes a fighter from the best of an era into a legend? this is obviously getting a little more hypothetical- but it's an interesting thought to me.
Of course you do now. But as of now Mayweather isn't an all time great, because you can't make that judgement while it's happening.
It's like war. War is hell until the heroes come home.
I would quote this and put it in my sig if I had any space bro.
I think this fight could do 1 million and maybe more, it will show that not only Oscar can be in a huge fight and it will do nothing but help boxing.
It will as long as Ricky doesn't show everyone the whitest ass in the world again.
That was funny as heck.
Ricky is a natural jokester. He would certainly make the previews more interesting and gain a lot more US fans if he could make fun of the whole thing. :boxing:
I'm waiting for orange sneakers to come in and say that hatton only has 10,000 fans and nobody gives a shit about the fight in the uk. I think it will break the million mark, most of the buys will be American tho.
It should do quite well for the reasons stated above.
I don't think it'll surpass the De La Hoya/Mayweather numbers, though it's possible.
A feature like Mayweather/Hatton 24/7, will certainly push it up there in the high numbers.

Where I struggle with these comparisons (sRL/Duran, Pernell/Chavez) is that Duran and Chavez were top 10/20 ATG's. Their styles went beyond brawling. I just have a tough time discussing Rick's style in the same manner.
I am not saying that Hatton is on the same level as Chavez or Duran, but if you cant see that his style goes beyond brawling, you have a problem.
this fight can be great only and I mean only if 1 of the following 2 things happen.. Ricky destroys Floyd, puts in question his whole style and fucks him up which I SERIOUSLY doubt or if Floyd just obliterates Ricky causing a big stir in Manchester, either one of those outcomes will blow this fight into legendary status because these are 2 highly recognized, undefeated pound for pound fighters so to see them obliterate each other will make for fireworks.. regardless of outcome, to answer your question, YES this fight has the potential to gain a million buys and I personally think it will, the best of 2 countries will be colliding each with undefeated records, they will do BIG numbers.. 100

Off topic, but maybe bumping it with some off topic shit will get someone to respond to the original question...
Anyways, I watched Whitaker-Chavez for the first time tonight, I thought to myself that those two fighters' styles match up awfully closely to Mayweather's and Hatton's styles.
Whitaker/Mayweather - Slick, fast defensive geniuses, who are able to throw combinations if they so desire.
Chavez/Hatton - Tough, rugged body punchers, who try to hunt your ass down and destroy your body.
I'm not saying the result will be the same, I'm just saying that there is a lot that is similar between the two.
