What would you gameplan be to beat Cotto?
My personal gameplan would be:
A. Try to box at a distance (if I had the reach) and keep him off of me for 12 rounds.
B. Go for the knockout and give up if I don't reach it in 4 rounds.
If there is any boxer I wouldn't fight it would definitely be Cotto. I would hate to feel the internal damage he causes fighters. Hatton knocks you down from body punches because it hurts. But it should only hurt for a few hours. Cotto punches probably hurt for a weeks.
Well, Shane was hurt and put down by Forrest. Forrest is not a ko puncher, he's a strong puncher but he's not a Cotto puncher. What a Cotto puncher means. Somebody that is looking for the ko all the time. Shane has not faced that somebody who is obsessed with putting the hurt on and stopping fighters.
In all fairness, Cotto was badly hurt and put down against Torres also. The knockdown, however, was less legit as it had a push to it, but I am biased obviously.
there's a little something called leverage. That's why Tommy hearns, Paul Williams and Vernon Forrest were all beasts at 147. Cotto is the shorter man and has shorter arms. Doesn't mean he doesn't hit hard just means Shane's not gonna be hit as hard as he was by Forrest or Winky.
dude come Nov your ass gonna be broke as a joke
The words of a jerkoff who seems quite unhappy with obscurity.. :wank:
(There, I responded to your post. That must make you happy.. HaHa..)
I just don't see Shame or Groto getting knocked out, but it'll be a hell of a fight.
You just might see Cotto holding and hitting for a few rounds to catch his wind.
:boxing:
Which brawler has Mosley destroyed again?
ps: I did not compare Winky with Cotto
Well, you said this fight was going to be similar to the Mosley-Stinky the Twinkie fights and I couldn't disagree more. Off the top of my head, Mosley's beat up a Vargas, Leija, Holiday, Johnson (all pretty strong fighters). Mosley is a boxer-brawler, he loves guys like Cotto who will come right after him. Stinky the twinkie and Vernon Forrest are anything but Cotto's style of fighting and I'm sure anyone would agree with me. Mosley is a glutton for punishment and he knows what to expect from Cotto. Paulie took it to the rib cage for 12 rounds and stood around. Judah made it through 11...there's no doubt in my mind that Cotto ain't knocking out Mosley so barring Mosley getting old overnight and becoming Cotto's faded punching bag for 12 rounds (which I doubt), I just don't see Cotto winning.
If Frodo learned anything from the Malignaggi fight, it's that slick, elusive boxers can give him trouble.
He can only be the aggressor against Measley and try to end it early.:boxing:
No offense but Shane's expereinces in big fights have been almost all losses, and when he did lose , he lost very, very convincingly. He was jacked up with muscle and he still lost the second DLH fight. This fight is going to be similar to the Winky vs Mosley fights. Except that Cotto's gonna get hit more than Winky did and Mosley's gonna eat more leather. At the end of twelve, Mosley will have this usual disappointment look on his face but this time he will have a lot of bruises to show for it.
You did not just compare Cotto to Winky in any way now did you? Holy shit...you did! I'm not even gonna go there, if you can't see that Stinky the twinkie had the perfect style to befuddle Shane and Cotto has the perfect style to make Shane look good then I don't know what to say. Bottom line is that every 'brawling' type fighter Shane has fought, he's destroyed and Cotto is nothing different. Mosley feeds off guys like Cotto and gets better and better. Cotto is no Stinky the Twinkie, he's gonna have his head exposed all night long for Mosley to ring on it like a bell. Like I said, I can't wait to see what's gonna happen to Cotto when he lunges in and gets countered by that quick left hook of Shane's....
Cool...
With Shame's experience in big fights, he should be expected to keep Cotton at bay.
Shame will be boxing while Cotton will be coming forward most of the time.:boxing:
Measley could grow a third arm and he still wouldn't be able to defeat Cotto. One thing I know though, Mosley will know better than to box Cotto. Mosley's got a weaker jab than Margarito and his legs look like RJJ's legs in his fight against Johnson. Stiff as flag poles. The logical choice is to brawl it out with Cotto. But his combos are not all there and even when they get there, they don't do much damage anymore. He hits good to the body, I'll give him that. It's the only punch where he actually twists his hips, oh and that ugly looping right of his. Mosley's got confidence issues due to the fact that he is not a smart fighter. Yeah, Mosley is not a smart fighter he can not adjust when faced with difficulties. Mosley is FUCKED!

Did you see Shane's fight against Collazo? How can you see he has "stiff legs" after having seen that fight, c'mon now. Shane looked youthful and vibrant as he was moving side to side, flurrying in and out of range, dropping the right hand lead and zooming out of there. True he doesn't hit like he used to, but he's still as fast as ever and when Cotto leaps in with those slow combinations he's going to get caught by Mosley. Even when he does catch Mosley, Shane will fire right back. A truly quality fighter fires back in retaliation (unlike Judah did in his fight for some reason) and I just don't think Cotto has the chin or defense to survive intact for 12 rounds...we'll see.
dude come Nov your ass gonna be broke as a jokeAlright, for Pavlik too.
My sig is too full to mark it down - but it's less than 24 hours from now.
We SHALL remember.
Regarding this weak apology that you don't have more points I'll try to somehow find a way to forgive that. It won't be easy. Be warned!

Throw to the body with him, clinch and jab as often as you can.
Funny as fuck Addison. ^^^
Sweet!!!
I am going back to Arkansas sometime this fall, I am actaully from Kansas but Arkansas was like a 2nd Home to me.
Word... I'm from Kansas!
you know what addison, as much as i dislike you and what to slap the shit out of you, you made a good point here
That's a brave thing to say through your ALT, vagina. :killyou:
I got family in Sherwood i think.
Most of my family is in Little Rock.
And some in Perryville.
Are there any good boxing gyms by you?
Man, I dont know. I had a friend who's wife went to the same one Jermain started at for a while. She said it was cool. I've never been to one though. I'd love to actually start boxing but I cant.
Impossible.
You have to go after him from the opening bell - and you better have some power if you plan on being succesful. To beat Cotto you have to back him up.
Staying on the outside DOES NOT WORK against Miguel Cotto.
To be effective against Cotto you have to step into the flames and try to put out his fire before he puts you out of the fight.
Short crisp straight combination punching, mixed with the use of angles and short uppercuts, and staying right on top of him THE ENTIRE TIME is it. And only it.
If I had to pick one fighter in the sport P4P to employ this method it would be Joe Calzaghe. Although I feel Shane Mosley is fully capable of getting the job done - provided he uses an aggressive tact.
Cute shit DOES NOT WORK against Miguel Cotto. Anybody who still thinks his ability is an optical illusion cannot see the writing on the wall. His unorthodox full torso punching is the antithesis of convention, and it is no illusion.
If anyone thinks that a skilled Boxer can play hit and run and survive even 6 rounds with Cotto without slowing down dramatically - they are clueless.
Fights are 12 rounds. Time is on Cotto's side if any of his opponents are foolish enough to try to outpoint him.

Cool. I'm originally from SW arkansas but moved to the Little Rock area about 5 years ago. I've lived in Cabot, Sherwood, NLR and Jacksonville so far.
