Not 100% sure but I think that is what would happen because when you are interim champion you are not a number one contender, you actually have a share of the belt and defend it like you are the champion.
Hmm, I guess you are right. I don't know... well fuck then Shane, put it on the line you vag.
Are you sure? I don't think that's the way it goes actually now that I think about it. You are dead to an organzation once you pick up a rival belt.
That would explain why Mosley did what he did.

It would have been just like a unification bout, however the winners would have to face each other immediately.

Wait... I didn't even think of this... does the interim championship still mean that that fighter would be the real champion's mandatory if the interim champion also holds a rival sanctioning body belt? I don't know, but I thought that if a fighter was the WBA champ, then they for sure couldn't be the WBC mandatory.

Since Miguel is the WBA champion, if he beats Mosley he won't be Floyd's mandatory...Right?

its sad how belts mean nothing anymore and people are willing to just surrender them instead of paying money
Names make big fights and the belts are just an after thought.
It's an interim belt. Now that Floyd is back down at Welterweight, it seems foolish to keep it.
Right, but if he defended it against Cotto, he would either
1. Face the winner of Mayweather-Hatton for the belt automatically.
OR
2. Get the belt if the winner doesn't fight him.
I didnt even know he held a belt...i was in the Puerto rico tour date for miguel cotto and shane mosley and he didn't have a belt there...weird...would help a lot if someone would explain how all this belts and crap work...lol
Mayweather hates paying sanctioning fees as much as anyone. The funny thing is he had to pay sanctioning fees when he had no title, like when he faced Corley he had to pay them.
Maybe he just didn't want to pay the WBC fees for this fight. I don't blame him, who really cares about the belts. It's who you beat in these elite divisions.
Not to mention, it is just an interim belt.
I dont know why he didnt put it on the line in the 1st place!!! Not the smartest move SSM made!!!

Mayweather doesn't seem to be a fan of a rematch, unless it is down to the fucking wire, or it can make a fuck ton of money... If he beats Hatton by like 9 rounds to 3, then there will be no rematch.
No, I think he left the door open for Cotto. He's not going to be fighting Paul Williams or Antonio Margarito because his physical limitations will get in the way, but he'd fight Cotto and probably Mosley if the money was right.
Regardless of what happens I reckon there's going to be a Mayweather Hatton rematch first if it's an exciting fight.
I am starting to believe a rematch is a possibility as well. It will more than likely take place in Manchester as well, that would be a sight to see.
That is a possibility, but didn't Hatton say he will only fight Floyd and DLH at 147.

Mosley stripped by WBC!
Wednesday, September 26 2007
The WBC has stripped WBC interim welterweight champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley for not putting his interim belt on the line when he faces WBA welterweight Miguel Cotto on November 10 in New York City. Mosley had claimed the temporary title in February against Luis Collazo. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is now the only welterweight champion recognized by the WBC.

Shane's already preparing to lose.
