I was thinking about a couple of ESPN telecasts, (pick your Night Fights), and I remembered two fighters in particular that I was kind of angry to see fighting.
Leon Bobo 16-0 2 KOs
Wes Ferguson 16-1 4 KOs
(They both lost which made me happy)
It just kind of makes me angry when someone really can tap their way to victory.
Someone else that comes to mind is Paulie Malignaggi... that really makes me think that someone is running and tapping when no one even stops the fight, because no damage is being done.
Just an angry rant, and I wanted to see if I was alone.
I don't mind light hitting punchers. As long as they are busy and throw punches and have a lot of heart I don't care if a fighter hits hard, is fast, has skill etc. For me, the heart and self confidence is all I care about.
Absolutely, the goal in a fight is FIRST to knock the other guy out and SECOND to win the decision if that doesn't happen. A low KO % is a huge handicap in my opinion when assessing a fighter's accomplishments
This post is all wrong. The first goal of a fight is to WIN period now if that win comes by KO great, TKO, great, decision also great. Like the saying goes "Just Win" thats all that matters not how you won just the fact that you won is what matters.
When you're in the ring with some crazy-ass who's sole purpose is to hurt you, you should want to and be willing to hurt him right back. Otherwise, what the fuck are you?
Sissy
calderon and malanagi(sp)
are two different kinda fighters to me
they both got low KO ratios
but ivan atleast goes for it
he just cant
while paulie to me
just runs and flurries without intent of serious damage
just scoring clean and gettin away
so long as theyre goin for the KO in a realist manner
i can support a fighter

When you're watching a fighter who has a low KO percentage it elimates one of the most exctiting and suspenseful aspects of the fight game..
Instant endings.
Uh... No
The goal in boxing (or any competitive sport) is winning. A KO is just a cherry.
This isn't true. Boxing has traditionally had the goal of knocking out your opponent and throughout much of its history a knockout was the only way you could win. The goal is still to knock out your opponent, and fighters who do not intend to do so are really circumventing the sport.
If the goal was not to knock out your opponent you could change the rules to be like amateur boxing.

I just find their fights a little boring because you know they can't end the fight at any moment like someone with decent power can. It does take the excitement out of a fight for me. Nothing like watching to fighters with hellish power.
If Paulie Malginaggi landed flush on, say... Hatton's chin, what do you think would happen?
It doesn't bother me when fighters win decisions, it just bothers me when fighters can't even really hurt (any of) their opponents and get decision wins. Certainly it is okay if you are fighting Micky Ward and you can't hurt him, but when a fighter doesn't really even have the strength to hurt their opponent, alarm bells kind of go off in my head.
Especially considering that many fighters who prospects face in their first few fights are awful.
Me too. That's what bothers me about Floyd.
KO precentages don't really bother me, there are certain fighters that don't have the power and have to find a way to win some other way. It's about winning, but the tricky thing when it comes to boxing is if you win by KO majority of the time the better chance of the fighter being a PPV star.
I think it takes away from their popularity more than anything.
Boxing is great because a fight can end at anytime, and with fighters who have little or no knockout power, it detracts from their ratings and popularity.

Thats false.
The first goal is to win the fight. Its a bonus if you can KO him.
Boxing is the art of hitting and not getting hit. However, boxing is the SPORT of rendering your opponent too damaged to continue. Therefore a boxer who taps his way to a decision has a hge barrier in the way of greatness. Also what happens if a feather-fisted fighter ends up behind in a fight?
Willie Pep was known to be a pitty-pat fighter but he still had 65 knockouts in his 229 wins. Maxie Rosenbloom on the other hand had just 19 KOs in 221 wins, and he'll forever be outside the all time great lists.
All I had to say when I read this thread title was: Winky Wright. He only has, I believe 25 KO's in his 56 fights (I think), and even though he's no knockout threat, he's sure as hell one of the most technical fighters out there, and gives fits to ANYBODY in diferent ways.
Plus, lately he comes forward a lot more, and his fights are beginning to become much more entertaining, the Taylor fight was great, and I enjoyed the Quartey fight as well. You can't discredit somebody who regularly schools fighters (see the Tito fight), and who has one of the best defenses in boxing.
Yeah, I thought of Winky too when I wrote it, but he is not the kind of fighter that I meant. Young fighters, with like 2 or 3 KOs... they have fought terrible competition, and still can almost never knock their opponents out.
no, i discredit fighters with weird ass styles because sometimes they win jsut because theyre weird and i discredit dirty fighters too.... i also have a thing against guys who go backwards, because if you dont chase them theres no fucking fight and if you chase them, you tire more, you let yourself vulnerable to counters and so on.....
