In your opinion who do you believe is a more complete boxer, Floyd Mayweather Jr or Pernell "Sweet Pea" Whitaker? I'm not asking who fought the better competition or who has the better resume. Just who brings it all together the best as a whole.
LOOK AT THE KO PERCENTAGES PEOPLE!
Pernell only has 17 KOs. He's probably the only fighter in the HOF under 20 kos lifetime.
Mayweather is more complete.
Mayweather will be ranked higher on the ATG list.
End of thread.
Whitaker took chances all the time. Floyd didnt.
Its difficult to say who was more 'complete'.
Whitaker could of done what Floyd does in terms of moving, and pot-shotting at range. But he liked to be flash, and took chances, sometimes paying for it.
Dadon you seem like a pretty smart person, so why would you respond to someone who made such a dumbass statement?
why would you be all up in floyd's junk without a proper foundation?
he's real good about picking his opponents. selective in fact. he doesn't have the goods to take on the elite in the class he's in so he's bebopping around all over the place talking a buncha shit while making himself look like a dope.
so what about floyds undefeated record make you think he is a fraud?? if he is a fraud judah and oscar would of beatin him

Your post is still there to read, right? You name physical abilities in a list that was supposed to be of fundamentals (that's if you wanted to answer the post you were answering, if it was not supposed to be a list of fundamentals, then you were simply out of topic).
Ali got hit a lot in the 70s because he slowed down and his defense was leaking, he got hit by the Fraziers but he also got hit by the Bugners. Skills keep you in the game when your speed, your reflexes are gone. If Ali had them his 70s career would have looked different. See Hopkins, Moore, Toney... Ali was more like Roy Jones Jr. (not talking about all time standings, just effectiveness of style with age)
Also Ali's shortcomings in terms of fundamentals is nothing new. That's why in his time, every boxing expert thought that Louis/Dempsey/Marciano (depenfing on the writer) could beat Ali.
Mind, I disagree with those above, Ali is my number 1 all time HW, but I can still see the problem with his basics.
I was off topic, if you want to call it that. I just threw everything into the list.
I can understand that Ali is not beyond criticism. All I'm saying is that Ali was NOT fundamentally unsound. That's the statement that I was responding to.
Where did I state that reach, power, and speed were "fundamentals"? That's ridiculous. lol There's nothing more to argue here. Ali was fundamentally sound. Period.
Ali didn't get hit because "he did things wrong." Ali got hit because he was a boxer and he was in with some of the greatest competition of any era. You are essentially saying that since Ali "got hit", he was fundamentally unsound. That argument is what is fundamentally unsound.

no i said he is like judah on the POWER and SPEED catagories... so what i mean is he is like judah but judah dosent have the defense of pernell
OH...ok, I see it now.
Why don't you read the entire post before responding. I think I explained myself very well. Anyway I think people are seriously overrating Pernell Whitaker on here. I mean where was this love when he used to fight? Now people parrot everything that other people say watching youtube highlights of Pernell slipping punches and they think they know it all.
It's a pretty common thing when fighters don't get the credit they deserve until after they have retired.
wtf i never said whitaker didnt have defense damn you been sucking to much cock
You said Pernell was like Judah and Judah had no defense. Is that not what you said?
Floyd is obviously better? I don't see it. But, a fight between Whitaker and Floyd would be a good one, no doubt. Probably not the most exciting, but a great test of skill.

yeah it would be the biggest fight EVER easily... but floyd is better hands down... judah is alot like whitaker and floyd beat him.. judah has power and speed just like pernell but he gets tired and hass no defense.. floyd would beat whitaker
This post is an official nuthug. Whitaker had defense.
Floyd is obviously better. Floyd's defense is better for longevity. Pernell's defense was great too but it was totally different and it worked based on pure reflexes and athleticism. Once he got older his defense wasn't as effective anymore . Smoking Crack didn't help either. Floyd's defense would work even when he is past his prime just like Hopkins's and Winky's defense.........It's more based on fundementals then natural ability.
Offense......again floyd is a lil better overall. More punching power then pernell even as he keept moving up in weight. Pernell was always on a Pauli Malinaggi, Cory spinks level of punching power.
And let's not forget the overall phisique....Floyd is 5'8 with 72" reach and Pernell is only 5'6 with a 27" reach. A great big boxer always beats a great little boxer. Pernell with his reach and height would have to have a totally different style to bother floyd.

As I said in my post, half of what you mention as fundamentals are not fundamentals. Obviously Ali was not a freak of nature with no clue, otherwise he would not have done what he has done. Still Ali did a ton of things "wrong" and got hit like crazy in the 70s.
